As an educator in Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), Ms. Spencer believes that a positive learning environment is the foundation for students' academic, personal, and professional success. Her classroom is built on mutual respect, high expectations, and a culture that encourages creativity, collaboration, and confidence. To establish this environment from day one, she prioritizes building authentic relationships with her students. Ms. Spencer takes time to learn their interests, career goals, and learning preferences through surveys, one-on-one conversations, and reflective activities. This not only helps her tailor instruction to their needs, but also shows students that they are seen, heard, and valued.
Ms. Spencer creates a classroom culture where mistakes are viewed as opportunities for growth. She encourages students to take risks, ask questions, and support one another, fostering a safe space for learning and innovation. Her classroom management approach is proactive, structured, and consistent, emphasizing accountability while maintaining empathy and flexibility.
Instructionally, Ms. Spencer uses project-based learning, real-world scenarios, and industry tools to make content relevant and engaging. This approach empowers students to apply technical skills in meaningful ways while developing soft skills like communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. She also incorporates student voice and choice in lessons—whether it's allowing them to select project topics, use different tech tools, or set personal learning goals. When students feel ownership over their learning, they're more motivated and invested.
Finally, she ensures that all students—including those with IEPs, 504 plans, and diverse learning styles—receive the accommodations and support they need to thrive. By consistently gathering data and reflecting on student performance and engagement, Ms. Spencer adapts her instruction to meet evolving needs. In this kind of environment, students not only gain knowledge and skills but also develop a sense of belonging, purpose, and confidence that stays with them beyond the classroom.
As the lead instructor for the Web and Digital Design and Networking Pathways, Ms. Spencer is committed to preparing students for college, career, and industry certification through rigorous, hands-on instruction. Her teaching philosophy centers on equipping students with relevant technical skills, fostering creativity, and ensuring alignment with workforce expectations in IT, web development, and digital communication fields. Over the past academic year, students in her program achieved a 100% pass rate on the CIW Associate Site Developer Certification and a 75% pass rate on the Certiport IT Specialist – Networking Certification. Ms. Spencer and her colleagues achieved a 100% pathway completion pass rate across all CTAE programs.
