Ms.Gaines has always been my favorite teacher even up til now that I’ve graduated college. No one has yet reached the amount of care and support that she has towards her students. She has definitely made a milestone in my life and til this day almost 20 years ago she is still reliable. She’s made a great impact.
I have known Gabriyelle Gaines for twenty years. During this time, I have seen her determination and tenacity to improve herself and others around her. I was thoroughly impressed watching her return to school to get her associate's and bachelor's degrees, and then not one, but two master's degrees! We served as colleagues at New Antioch Christian Fellowship, and her commitment and passion for education were evident. She created and facilitated a curriculum for our leadership development program, which is still being utilized by that organization and other churches connected to New Antioch. She was an excellent thought leader, challenging traditional norms to ensure outcomes were clearly outlined and we had a defined path to achieve them successfully. When she decided to leave a more corporate job to pursue teaching, even though it was a pay cut, making an impact in future generations held more weight and continues to be her guiding compass. I have witnessed the effects of her teaching. Her students are receptive and consistently accelerate beyond expectations. This acceleration is due to Gabriyelle’s commitment to pouring into them academically and personally. In academic settings where expectations are to prepare students for passing proficiency testing, it can be easy to reduce students to a test score; however, Gabriyelle still sees and invests in the humanity of her students. People like Gabriyelle, who are in the trenches daily with our children, often get overlooked. This nomination makes us all pause to acknowledge and celebrate the unseen work she does tirelessly, unselfishly, and willingly daily.
Gayla is so worthy of this nomination. She delivers on her promises to help her students (children and adults) to increase skill and awareness. She consistently looks for ways to improve herself by asking questions and attending classes or trainings. She appears eager to use her knowledge to improve and support others. She advocates for the children and teachers by reaching into the community for resources to help meet basic human needs and classroom supplies. Away from the tasks and books, she is fun to be around. We can sit around exchanging stories and laughing hysterically for hours. Plus I’m glad she’s finally taking more time for self-care by traveling solo as needed ??. I am pleased to have the opportunity to support Gabriyelle Gaines’ nomination for LifeChanger of the Year. I had the privilege of supervising her work with the Las Vegas Justice Court from 2013 to 2017. Prior to my arrival, Ms. Gaines took on an extremely challenging role in Alternative Sentencing with little support. However, she managed to bring very much needed structure to a chaotic environment. After we started working together, her outstanding organizational skills, dedication to excellence, and amazing abilities to understand new concepts and develop creative and effective systems were on full display. She contributed essential statistical analysis that was crucial to my grant writing and Division management responsibilities. She frequently asked questions that encourage me to rethink the best approached to resolving organizational conflicts. My only regret is that we did not have more time to establish additional programs to benefit the Las Vegas community.
I count it a privilege to know and have the opportunity to be in fellowship with Gabriyelle Gaines. I believe it's safe to say that she has a profound impact on anyone who shares space with her. Ms. Gaines is the most compassionate, caring, creative teacher in and outside of the district she's able to assess the needs of her students and craft an individual educational experience to make the struggling student feel included and capable in their studies. In my own personal experience she has assisted me with my grandson who struggles with dyslexia. I had the pleasure of working as an assistant during her summer school program, as well as personally being invited to several of her 5th classes over the many years of her teaching. l've observed a family oriented environment where she encourages each student to think outside of their limits. I’ve watched how she engages with her students and evokes a dialog to encourage each students critical thinking skills. I believe Ms. Gaines is an excellent example of what dedicated leadership represents.

Gabriyelle embraces community oneness in a manner that few understand. Her dedication and commitment to nurture, support, preserve, and serve our community outside as well as inside the classroom walls is extraordinary. She has implemented Cornerstone Family Literacy, her nonprofit organization that focuses on building solids literacy and math foundations for underserved communities. She provides free books to build home libraries, tutoring services, and conducts family workshops to parents and guardians on how to best provide a solid foundation for their children in the 21st Century Literacy and Math Skills.
