Janlly Ann Abarquez was nominated anonymously.

Ms. Abarquez always makes sure that her students feel safe and welcomed in her class. She creates a positive classroom environment by making math fun, exciting, and easy. She knows most of the students are having a hard time learning math, but she always finds ways to make math more exciting for the kids. Ms. Abarquez reminds the kids that whenever they make mistakes in math, it shows they are learning and that they learn from their mistakes. She encourages them to practice more and more.

Ms. Abarquez is a teacher from a Title I school, which means the majority of their kids, if not all, are from low-income families. They need materials such as pencils, paper, calculators, folders, and snacks like fruit snacks and fruit juice. On Fridays, Ms. Abarquez conducts "MATHia Friday," where students work on their Mathia workspaces. This is a curriculum-aligned activity where kids complete workspaces, and they gain a ticket that they can redeem in exchange for school supplies and/or snacks. She has been doing this for the past three years at Harney Middle School, and it has shown a significant impact on the performance of her students because they get motivated to work more.

Ms. Abarquez was named Teacher of the Month in April 2023 and May 2024.

Roma Mejia Posted 10 months ago

Ms. A has been a very patient and nice teacher, and she knows how to help a student. Math is definitely not one of the subjects I'm good at. Ms. A has helped me a lot and made sure I would understand her lessons. She always has a routine for us to follow at the end of the lesson she asks us if we understand. Other than making sure we understand she sets expectations for us to follow. Also, goals which she supports us to strive to our goals. She's one of the best teachers I've had and I wish to see her succeed more. I regularly visit her classroom before I have practice it's fun to pass by and see her.

Math definitely is not my strongest subject, but Mrs. A was so helpful during my time in 6th grade. She never lost her temper, she always found a way to make learning engaging for us, and she made sure that we understood what was being taught. There are few Teachers that i would visit regularly when I attended Harney, but Mrs. A was one of them. This is because she left an impact on me that I'm sure no other teacher could've left. Mrs. A truly is an amazing teacher and I thank her for everything shes done for me.

Ms. Abellana is one of the most hardworking and passionate colleagues I’ve had the chance to work with! She puts so much love and care when it comes to her students, and she strives to exceed the the expectations in her roles and responsibilities as a teacher and formator.

She was my Gr11 advisor during the pandemic. Despite all the struggle and stress online class had for all of us, she never failed to put on a smile and adapt to teach us. She was my first encounter with Pre-Calculus, an experience that others may have hated, but i loved.

Francis Angelo Lumayno Posted 11 months ago

Ms. Abarquez was such a kind teacher back when I was a senior high student! Although we had online classes, she made the classroom atmosphere warm, fun, and engaging. She helped me enjoy and appreciate math even though I’m not the strongest at it. Definitely my favorite senior high teacher ??

Elton Tan Posted 11 months ago

She was truly one of the best teachers I've ever had. Her students knew she genuinely cared about them, but she also maintained a high level of discipline. This combination of caring and strictness made her a powerful influence.

I was one of her 11th grade student from the Philippines in 2018. Back then, I didn’t have much belief in myself. Yet, even without knowing me personally, I could feel that whenever she gave me instructions or entrusted me with tasks to lead, she believed I could do it. Six years later, I graduated as one of the top 10 students out of more than 400 in my university program. The confidence she instilled in me—making me believe that I was capable—has stayed with me all these years. Her impact will always be a part of my journey and I wish Ms. Janlly all the best!

Liahona Abejar Posted 11 months ago

Miss Janlly inspired me with how thoughtful she was. Her daily homeroom sessions during online class always made us feel valued and supported.

Arianna Posted 11 months ago

Ms. Abarquez was my junior high school adviser, and she was truly an incredible teacher. She didn’t just teach lessons—she inspired us, guided us, and believed in us even when we didn’t believe in ourselves. Her dedication, kindness, and passion for teaching have left a lasting impact on my life. She absolutely deserves to be recognized as Lifechanger of the Year!

Tashija Posted 11 months ago

Miss Janlly your guidance, encouragement, and passion for teaching have made a lasting impact on me. You've not only taught me lessons from books but also lessons for life. Thank you for inspiring me to be my best.

One of the most memorable teachers from my senior high school days in Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu was our co-adviser/Ms. Janlly. She always had a way of making the class more alive and engaging, especially when we were starting to feel tired. I’ll never forget how she’d cheer us up with her trademark ‘Energyyy!!’ that instantly lifted everyone’s mood. She wasn’t just a great teacher, she truly cared about keeping us motivated and making learning enjoyable
