LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Amber Barbee was nominated by a family member, Clint Barbee.

This is Ms. Barbee's 25th year as an educator and 11th year as a school counselor. She is a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist, Certified School Counselor, and Licensed Professional Counseling Supervisor. She is also one of the Lamar CISD Crisis Prevention Intervention trainers and serves on the district Crisis Team.

Ms. Barbee always goes above and beyond for her students.  She has facilitated many programs that have served the needs of her students through the years.  Some of these programs include, but are not limited to:

• WAVY- a peer mediation group that allows current students to mentor students who are new to the campus or in need of a friend
• Table Talk- a club that allows students to speak in their native language with students from the same area and practice English skills in a safe setting. 
• Lightning Squad- the campus pep squad group
• Knit One/Save One- a group of student knitters who make hats for children with cancer or pre-mature babies during study hall and lunch
• Character Counts Club- students focusing on character traits each month and participating in service projects such as making blankets for Ronald McDonald House or cancer care packages for MD Anderson. 
• No Place for Hate/Rachel's Challenge- working to accept and appreciate diversity and treating others the way you want to be treated.  Activities have included an anti-bullying t-shirt contest, a diversity calendar, and mix it up at lunch day. 

Mrs. Barbee also has a private practice and works with educators as a mentor while they earn their license to be a counselor or LPC.  She continues to be identifed as a distinguished counselor and has presented at many conferences, including the Lonestar Counseling Conference, TASSP conference, and the PBIS conference. She has created a website that allows her to share her resources freely to other counselors or educators in need.
