Ms. Rodis creates a positive classroom environment by embracing the mistakes and chaos that come organically in the learning process. Whenever she makes a mistake, she asks the entire class to tell her in unison, "You're still cool." As time passes, when students make mistakes, their peers whisper "you're still cool" out of habit. It makes for an accepting environment where kids are less afraid to make mistakes and brave enough to try new and challenging things.
Ms. Rodis earned a position in the 24-teacher-only, alternating-year Teaching Shakespeare Institute at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. She was a nominee and finalist for the Heart of Education award in Clark County, and she also taught during the COVID pandemic.
