Shashu Taylor was nominated by her colleague of 15 years, Joanna Flaster.
"Shashu and I became friends when I began subbing at the elementary school she taught at," said Flaster. "Since I've met her, I have seen her grow personally and professionally. Three years ago, we both transferred to middle school."
Ms. Taylor has made such impact on the lives of students that they come up to her when they see her and thank her for the amazing job she did with them. She doesn’t just teach the students academics; she teaches them lifelong lessons so they know how to succeed in real world scenarios. Her leadership abilities in a school mentoring program called Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders demonstrate her skills to ensure students succeed.
Ms. Taylor has created a professional development business, as well as a nonprofit organization called M.E.N.D. These two businesses have made great impacts in the lives of adults, as well.
This is her third year teaching Reading at Forest Glen Middle School. Each year, students come and visit her after they have had her to thank her. Her current students write letters to her stating how grateful they are that she teaches them.
She follows school rules and routines to ensure students succeed in her classroom and know how to use the skills they learn in the outside world. Ms. Taylor demonstrates the highest morals, both inside and outside of her classroom.
"I know that she has made a tremendous impact in the lives of her students because I have seen students approach her at different places and thank her for teaching them," said Flaster. "Her students know that they can come to speak to her, and she will provide listening ears and constructive advice on how to positively succeed in any setting. I have known Shashu for over 13 years now and since then she have continued to excel as a teacher, mentor and great friend! Your passion for teaching shows at every school and with every student she meets!I believe her creativity, fun-loving personality and positivity is what an significant impact on the lives of all the students she has encountered! She has made a impact not just in the kids she come across as a teacher but makes a impact in adults lives also with her nonprofit organization called M.E.N.D that she created a few years ago. She is definitely example of what a teacher is all about.
I met Shashu many years ago and from then on I know she was a wonderful woman. She is such an inspiration to many including myself. Shashu has turned her trials into triumph and I am so proof her! She is a phenomenal teacher, sister, daughter, friend, athlete, etc... Congratulations to her on her nomination and she deserves everything wonderful that comes her way.
As a retired high/middle school principal, my perception of Ms. Taylor is that she is a dedicated educator, who has a genuine passion for teaching and learning. She is conscientious in her duties to her students; making sure each of them achieves and works to their highest potential. She also has an innate ability to help students reflect on how their middle education will support their postgraduate life.
She is a successful experienced teacher who shares best practices with beginning teachers in the district and mentors and models for beginning teachers in her school.
I believe her elementary background has enabled her to successfully support students who struggle in their middle school classes.
There are so many more positive comments I can say about Ms. Taylor; but I just would like to end my comments by saying that Ms. Taylor is in the one percent of educators who are a true asset to our educational system today. I congratulate her on being nominated for this honor.
Shashu has made a tremendous impact on her students at Forest Glen but as her Department Head, I can attest to the positive influence she had had on her colleagues. Ms Taylor continually learns new technology techniques in teaching and is always offering this information in our meetings.
In my personal opinion Shashu Taylor exhibits the very best qualities and I am proud to know and work with her because she is a “Life Changer”.
I met Shashu during a pivotal time of my life. Nearing college graduation, I met her through my student teacher placement. As I completed the hours of practicum, my last class before student teaching, she became more than my clinical instructor. She became my friend, guide, and mentor. Her confidence and passion is magnificent, and I felt it through every child of her classroom that she impacted. It was an inspiration to see her work every day, touching the lives of students in a Title I school.
While teaching can be a messy process, her classroom management felt harmonious and delicately guided. The students had ownership of their classroom. It was truly a shared experience with Shashu and her students. You could see the love and awe they had for her, as they knew she gave them her high expectations, wisdom and heart. One of my last days there, she had brought the kids a delicious meal of rice, beans, and chicken to celebrate a momentous occasion. The kids were deeply respected as people, including love and acknowledgement for the cultural background they were from. Her acknowledgement of who they were as people touched them on a deep level. It was a joyous occasion when student achievement scores arrived, and she celebrated their accomplishments and success.
She was taking graduate level courses and I loved to hear her speak about education with such passion. She answered all my questions throughout my practicum honestly, and I felt so safe and welcome from the moment I walked through her door. She is one of a kind. She is magnificent. She is kind. She is intelligent. She welcomes everyone, no matter your age, race, religion, or other differentiating factor. I knew she would be there for me after my practicum, and after student teaching, which she was. Only a phone call and text away, with love, support, advice, and a listening heart.
She inspires me with her community involvement and work with non-profit. She is constantly growing as a human being, and empowering those around her. I nominate this incredible woman to be Life Changer of the Year.
I have known Shashu for about six years. Her energy and motivation is infectious. We met through Black Girls Run which is an initiative to motivate women of color to become more active. Shashu led many meet-ups where we ran and walked with other women anywhere from 3-18 miles. I also admire her flexibility because during hot summer months she would organize meet-ups to run as early as 3:00am to avoid the sun. If this does not demonstrate her commitment for the greater good of the group, then I do not know what does. Most important, we ran our first marathon (26.2 miles) together. Shashu finished about an hour and a half before I did. She waited and cheered for me until I finished the race! Wow, that was incredible! Shashu Taylor is clearly a life changer.
There is never a time that I see Shashu without a smile on her face. She is always pleasant and fun to be around. She and I met at church about 4 years ago and over the years she has always been willing to go above and beyond help others.
Shashu has a true heart for serving and a genuine love for people. The best part about it all is that she can see a difference being made in each of the lives of the people she encounters. People like Shashu are a rare find in this day and age. She is a gem to all.
I have known Ms. Shashu for more than 5 years. She is quick and intuitive. She can work with the elementary children as well as the teenagers. Usually, teachers has a strong preference for elementary or middle school, however, she can work well with both groups.
My son is Twice Exceptional and she knows exactly how to teach and inspire him - she has mastered the art of how to engage him while getting the best from him. He loves working with her. She is the epitome of a "Life Changer" and she represents that to our famiky.
I have known Shashu Taylor personally and professionally for over 15 years. She has been such an inspiration to everyone that she has encountered. Shashu is extremely social and builds a community of networking among her friends and colleagues. Her most unique quality is her ability to motivate others to be their best. Something as simple as a morning motivational text to help push you through a challenging day, or a kind word when your grieving a loss, Shashu is the one person that you can count on to be your light! It is a privilege to have her in my life, and I will forever be grateful for the positive impact that she brings to my life!
Shashu is a strong, helpful, adventurous, sincere, hardworking and unique individual. She is dedicated to her calling and her purpose to help others. It takes a special person to use their pain to create a platform to help others. And that’s exactly what Shashu did when she started M.E.N.D. an organization to assist others and help them to be a better version of themselves. I met Shashu over 10 years ago. From the moment I met her I could see how she has an amazing positive energy. I admire her passion for being a great teacher and an example for her students. I appreciate all the support and advice she has given me. She definitely deserves this award.
I've know Shashu for over 14 years. Over the years she have help my family in so many ways. From helping my children by tutoring them and implanting seeds that have helped them along the way. I remember starting my own business in 2005 with no clients and Shashu took a leap of faith to give me a try and after she saw how I helped her she went out and told everyone about my business and her friends told their friends to know I can humbly say I am grateful for knowing Shashu.
In 2017, I went through a terrible divorce which almost tore my children. I knew she went through the process and I reached out to her. Immediately, she found support group for me to help us with the grieving process. What I learned from Shashu was how to forgive and let go. With that I was able to remove the pain and anger. I am a better person today because her. A lot of people are stuck in their past and finding it hard to forgive others and she help understand to always focus on the NOW and let God be God and not to tormented myself by something that already happens and have no control over. I strongly recommend my friend, my sister and my mentor.

I am seriously SO grateful to have met Ms franklin (as I knew her from way back when)! She became my personal tutor when I was struggling tremendously in elementary/middle school and though I cringed at the thought of having a tutor, Ms Franklin completely changed my perspective on learning- because of her I started seeing an increase in my grades in school! She made things fun while still getting the job done. I remember being so excited for our next tutoring session.
I am so blessed to say that over ten years later my elementary school tutor is STILL a part of my life showing support in every single way that she can! She has been there through my pregnancy, she has supported me in my own business and that is something that is so hard to come around. So when you find people like that it is important to keep them around. Shashu is so amazing and deserving of all the blessing that are yet to come her way!

I met Ms. Taylor in December of 2013. It was two weeks before I started my student teaching with her at Broadview Elementary school. She made the final step in receiving my Bachelors so reassuring. She gave me hope that I could effectively run a classroom on my own. Also, she had me keep a notebook full of feedback that I still utilize till this day. Without her, I wouldn’t have been released early from student teaching to start my career early, nor would I be in my fifth year teaching. Ms. Taylor has done so many life changing things not only in my life, but others. Her passion and dedication to education, her faith, family, friends and student teachers will never go unnoticed. I’m so thankful that she’s only a phone call away if I need advice, guidance, or a positive pep talk. She’s an athlete in her classroom, on the field, and your local superhero. There is no doubt that she is a life changing individual within the community, state, and world.

I met Shashu way back in 2004 when I moved 1,400 miles from home in Michigan to Broward County. I was fortunate enough to teach 3rd grade on the same team as Shashu. Moving that far away, I was lacking a home base feel. No family around and no friends. Shashu and I became fast friends. She took me under her wing as we shared similar interests. She and I trained for the Disney Half Marathon together. Talk about life changer!! She organized practice runs and different fundraising events so we could ensure our success. She is such a leader, all of this came so naturally. As years passed by, I moved back to Michigan. It’s been 11 years since I’ve moved away, but we make it a point to meet up somewhere in the USA to continue to run together. Our life goal being all 50 states. She is a true inspiration to me and so many others. She always has a positive outlook on everything...even the worst of situations. She has people’s back through it all and is such an amazing person. I’m lucky to know her.
My daughter Shashu, has always had it proclaimed that she was marked by God for greatness. She struggled sometimes while growing up, even competing with her sibling.
I have seen her overcome some difficulties over the past few years however, she allowed God to guide her through every step. Shashu has opened doors as an educator, with her non-profit organization, and through the arena of sports. She has excelled in education because of her caring and nurturing mindset for her students who appreciate her honesty and interest in their well-being. I have met parents of children she currently teaches and, whom she has previously taught, who speak highly of her. I have been in her company when students who have matriculated on, have seen her in public and have embraced her with such a high level of respect and honor.
Through a very hard place in her life, she created a non-profit to help families who are struggling trying to find a way out, as she once found herself (M.E.N.D.). Speaking from experience she has been able help others break barriers. She also finds time to be involved with several charities, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s, by running in marathons races, that represent the causes, several times throughout the year and she still finds time to play on 3 soccer teams for different cities in our county.
Shashu is currently completing her Doctorate degree and looking ahead to the vision that God has for her. She has a drive and a passion for the things that she sets her mind to, and also her friends and family.
I am proud to have her as my daughter, and for these reasons she is so deserving of the life changer award. She is unstoppable!

The title of ‘Life Changer’ is one I would use to describe my former college and friend Shashu Taylor. Shashu was the first person I met when entering a brand-new school my second year of teaching. It was not an easy place to start at being a new educator, but she always went above and beyond to help me grow both professionally and personally. Whenever I needed support, she was there whether I asked or not. Shashu always pushed me in a comfortable way that made me also want to strive for excellence. She is one of those people that makes you feel like better person for just knowing her, or for being in her presence. I also feel privileged to have seen her in her role as an educator. She is equally as inspiring to all the children that walk into her classroom year after year. Some of examples I know they were exposed to first hand was a desire to learn, self-respect, dedication, pride, and most of all love.
After we met, I had some personal and professional setbacks and she was always there encourage me, to push me, and to remind me of all that I had to offer. She has an amazing way of uplifting you and making you want to be the best version of yourself that you can be. Shashu helped me to regain my confidence in many regards and the saying, “I’m only a phone call away” rings true with her always. She is the example of person you can truly count on.
In the time that I’ve known her I’ve seen her grow immensely and even despite some personal challenges. It was inspirational to watch someone turn their personal challenges and pain into an entire entity that will help many others. I’m thankful to know such an inspirational and wonderful female role model that I know will never stop in her conquest of continued education and assisting others in reaching their own dreams.
One of the biggest privileges of my career thus far was meeting this amazing and self-less woman. My hope is that many others get the opportunity to become acquainted with Ms. Shashu Taylor.

It is my great pleasure to write this letter in support of Shashu Taylor. I have worked alongside Shashu for the past several years both as her reading teacher neighbor and Literacy Coach. She exhibits a very strong work ethic, a diligent working attitude and professionalism at all times.
Shashu generally works with students who score in the lowest 25th percentile on their standardized reading assessments. Often times they are unmotivated and disinterested. Shashu is extremely adaptable and creative and is always willing to implement new techniques and modify curriculum to ensure her students are motivated and are eager to improve. Technology is incorporated throughout her instruction to help her grab the disinterested learner and provide a multi-sensory approach to meet individual’s learning styles.
Shashu has been a coach for several different sports at our school which provide her with the opportunity to work with students outside their academic realm. She is a mentor to these students teaching them life-long skills like good sportsmanship, teamwork, and social and emotional skills.
Ms. Taylor is a perfect example of a “Lifechanger” and definitely deserves this award!
I’ve known Shashu for over 5 years and everyone she comes in contact, she impact their life in a special way. Shashu is very passionate about teaching and her students loves her. Every time we are out, whether it’s at a movie or shopping, we run into one of Shashu’s formal students, they are so excited to see her. Shashu’s is not just wonderful educator, but she’s a loyal friend. A friend I can always dependent on, no matter what time of day it may be. I can’t think of anyone else, who deserves this award, other then Shashu Taylor.

I worked with Sashu for 8 years and she was a great mentor and friend from the minute I met her. She's always been a positive, fair, and motivating person. it's inspiring to see! Shashu and I met when she was beginning her career as an elementary educator. She has always looked at everything as a learning opportunity. Over the years she has grown as an educator, mentor, and woman. She is always there with a helping hand or listening ear no matter what time of day. She provides her students whether school age or adult with a variety of opportunities to succeed. Every time I speak to her or to a fellow friend/colleague I hear that she is at it again starting a non profit organization, teaching parenting classes, ELL classes, mentoring/counseling others or just lending an ear. She is an inspiration to so many. I still teach at the school where we met and returning students always ask where she is. She has touched so many lives and has so many more to touch. It is an honor to call her a colleague, the best part is that I not only have an amazing colleague but I have a true friend in Shashu.
I had the pleasure of meeting Shashu on the soccer field a few years back! She would always encourage me to stick with my goals with fitness. She has such a positive attitude and Loves teaching!! As a parent it was a good feeling to know she was going to be teaching at the same school my son attended. She was able to be a great mentor to him, and I am grateful for that!
To sum up anything to be said about Shashu, it is that she is Dependable, a dependable daughter, sister, friend, colleague, supporter and to everyone else who falls into a certain space through Shashu's journey in life. I have known Shashu since high school and she has always been there even through the gaps in time and communication, we always connect as there was no time or space in between. She has always been present as that forever friend, that dependable sister/friend that everyone needs in life. Shashu has played a pivotal role in supporting my many endeavors. She is the first one to support and the first to step up and advocate for you.
Shashu is dedicated to the pursuit of her passion and purpose which is inspirational to many. She has proven herself to be a woman of valor, having high standards of integrity, loyalty, and professionalism. What I admire most is her drive and tenacity in obtaining her goals and not afraid to put in the work to obtain them.
Shashu encompasses an infectious personality that engages others no matter their background. She is a rare type of individual who is unapologetically confident, yet humble and combines natural ability with an eagerness to learn and grow in pursuit of her dreams and keeping the promises she has made for herself. She is fierce and her strength and resilience are unstoppable, I applaud her. I am inspired by her as she speaks eloquently of her future goals as an innovative business woman to give back and have true impact in the lives of others. I know without a doubt know that my friend will excel in all that she does and aspires to do, where she will inspire others to follow suit.

Shashu is an amazing, kind, beautiful person on the inside and out. She is one of the most down to earth person anyone can meet. Shashu has a major hand with my career as a teacher. With here knowledge, care, and support, I'm more of an effective teacher. As her intern, not only did I have a wonderful mentor, but I gained a friend.
Shashu has touched the life of every person that she meets. We are all fortunate to have someone like her in our lives. With her career and passion, she's preparing our future leaders. I will never forget all that she has done for me! She's one in a million!
I have known Shashu for many years as an educator and as avery community involved young lady. She is such a breath of fresh air as an educator. Shashu is the perfect example of an “all around great person.” She is a wonderful teacher, friend, coach and mentor. I would like to add my support to this nomination. Shashu is in the final stages of completing her EdD degree and I am her Dissertation Chair. I have only known Shashu for a few months but I can tell how dedicated and committed she is to complete her doctorate of education degree.
Her dissertation topic focuses on gathering information on how to support reading teachers assist their students to help pass the state’s standardized test. Shashu and I had many conversations on weekday nights and weekends discussing her study. This is not an easy task after working a full day/week. It takes much dedication to complete a doctorate degree and Shashu has demonstrated this in abundance.

Shashu Taylor is one of those rare, remarkable individuals who is a genuine philanthropist who loves helping and assisting people. Ms. Taylor has proven on multiple occasions to be a reliable friend and one I wouldn’t hesitate to contact in a time of need.
Shashu is an inspiring friend. She is always there for someone in need but the most important character trait that she has is that she is a genuine person who truly cares about her family, students and friends. She truly wishes you the best at all times. I am very proud of how she is moving on in her leadership journey and admire the positive attitude she has towards her students and coworkers. Forest Glen Middle School is so very lucky to have Shashu Taylor as part of our team. Her passion is evident every time I observe her teaching. She has a way of reaching her students so they want to learn. She shares ideas with her colleagues and is happy to assist whenever needed. She also coaches girls volleyball and soccer. Ms. Taylor believes being on a team gives students a boost in their self esteem which carries through in the classroom. She is an absolute pleasure to work with.
I have known Shashu for many years. We met outside of school at soccer (locally in the area). Shashu and I became fast friends. The best way to describe Ms. Taylor is that she is ALWAYS a bubbly and happy person. Her spunk and her positive way of thinking is contagious. She is first and foremost an educator, however, she is also a very near and dear friend to many. She is always busy supporting her friends and family in their endeavors as well as ALWAYS staying positive and being a positive influence on so many. I actually am not only a personal friend of hers, however, I am also an "aunt" of sorts to one of her current students. I can tell you that she is always on top of her students and pushing them to be the best that they can be. That sounds cliché, however, it is incredibly true. Not only is she always busy supporting her friends and family outside of school, but she also is very active in our local community. She has created a non-profit in her "off" time which is designed to help families going through divorce. Shashu or Ms. Taylor as you all have grown to know her is a wonderful teacher, friend, and altogether human. She is constantly positive to the point I often wonder...does she ever have a bad day? Even if she does have a bad day, no one would ever know, because she is the type of person who turns a negative into a positive. In some of my own personal struggles in life she has reached out at my lowest points unexpectedly, just to let me know that she was there and to keep on trucking. She notices when someone is struggling and takes note and takes action. I know that she pays attention to her children in class and I know without fail (as exhibited with my niece), that she pays attention and can tell when a child is having trials and tribulations outside of school. I without reservation highly recommend Ms. Shashu Taylor for the Life Changer of the Year award. I can not imagine anyone else more deserving of such an award. Not only has she changed the lives of many young people, she also changes the lives of her peers. I honestly can say she is the type of educator that children will remember and go back and visit with their own children! Shashu ROCKS!

Shashu was an amazing mentor to me when I was in high school! She was my supervisor at a preschool we worked at and I could not have asked for a better mentor. At the time I was planning on pursuing a career in education, and Shashu provided me with many opportunities to strengthen my skill set as well as learn new skills! Well, I met Shashu about three years ago and we started working in the Children's ministry check in. We began communicating on our lives' journey and soon realized we had some things in common.She has such a resilient spirit.. Shashu always has encouraging words of wisdom. She is loyal. She is beautiful inside and out. . Her heart's desire is to help families in need.

I've been a teammate of Shashu for almost two years. We play soccer together for the Broward county public school board league. During this time I've seen how Shashu motivates people to never give up. She motivates us to play to the best of our abilities even when we have nothing left to give. On and off the field she motivates me to get the most out of every day. I am sure Shashu has changed many life's, but I am even more confident she will continue to change lifes.
Shashu and I instantly became close as fellow teammates on various soccer teams. Although we initially started on opposing teams, circumstances led us to play together, and since then she has been an amazing team mate and more importantly, a supportive friend. She always has a fun and outgoing spirit that brings joy to any circle. And in my family's time of need, she didn't hesitate to lend a helping hand. Although we aren't in the classroom together, I can only imagine how lucky the kids are to have such a great teacher like Shashu. She deserves this award in every way.
Ms. Taylor deserves this award. She has had a huge impact on my daughter’s life. My daughter, Charissa, had Ms. Taylor for 3rd grade. To this day, she remembers everything Ms. Taylor taught her. From academics, to life challenges, Ms. Taylor has been there.
She isn’t just there for the student inside the classroom. She is there outside as well. My daughter loved soccer. She was on a team for her city. She was actually inspired to be athletic because Ms. Taylor was a very athletic person. I remember Ms. Taylor coming to multiple soccer games to cheer my daughter up. Also, supporting me when she walked during a Breast Cancer Walk as I was going through the struggles of breast cancer. When there were months that I had to work more, Ms. Taylor made sure to be there for Charissa with anything she needed. My daughter later came to realize how much Ms. Taylor cares for her students and their successes. As a result, this made her start caring about her class work so much more.
To this day, Ms. Taylor keeps on inspiring. Charissa attended Ms. Taylor’s college graduation. This inspired Charissa to attend college and go after her dreams. These are only some of the reasons that I believe Ms.Taylor deserves this award. She is Awesome!!

Ms. Taylor was my clinical education teacher. I have known her for almost 7 years now. It seems like just yesterday I spent an entire semester watching how professional and caring you was towards the well being of her students. I have also gotten to know her outside of the classroom and I have never met a more dedicated person. I had the pleasure of meeting Shashu during a class we were taking together overcoming the challenges of divorce. I was amazed at the transformation I saw in Shashu during the course of our classes, and watched her blossom into a fearless leader and an inspiration to those who passed through those Divorce Care doors. Her willingness to be transparent brought healing to many lives and her victories inspired so many others. Shashu is vibrant and passionate with a heart to serve and a desire to see others overcome and grow, which is also evident in the creation of her nonprofit organization M.E.N.D.. Wow what can I say about Shashu... I’ve known her for the past 3 years but it seems much longer than that. She’s a strong woman who has endured a lot in the past few years, but that hasn’t stopped her from reaching out and helping others. Shashu is my daughter and I am extremely proud of the woman that she has become today. I had the privilege of watching her grow and develop over the years and the memories that I have are precious. The thing that I am most proud of is her resilience. She has fought through a number of adverse situations in her life and have come out on the other side of them stronger and better. She does not have "Quit" in her character. She has developed or participated in organizations that help others to build themselves back up from tough and tragic situations and all after she has mastered them herself. She truly epitomizes strength of character. Rudyard Kipling once said, in parts "If you can trust yourself, when all others doubt you, but make allowances for their doubting too...if you can walk with kings nor lose your common touch...if you can force your heart, nerve, and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone, and so hold on when there is nothing left except the will that says to them hold on." These verses remind me of Shashu and her virtue as a woman and as a humanitarian. I am extremely proud of her!

I’ve known Shashu for several years both personally and professionally. Throughout those years she has always had a positive outlook on life and always encouraged others to go out and pursue their dreams. Not only is she intentional and genuine with her deeds, such as volunteering her time to empower and motivate at-risk youth, she is also a great supporter of who and what she believes in. She stands for building and strengthening her community, which is evident in the non-profit organization that she created M.E.N.D., which helps provide support for families in crisis. I am proud to call her a friend and I believe she is definitely the epitome of a life changer!

Since I have known Ms. Taylor and seeing her work with the students, I have heard nothing but praises about her performance. Middle school students often are not the easiest to teach. They are in the midst of adolescence, so their bodies are taking them through some remarkable changes and their behavior often reflects those changes. But the students Ms. Taylor assists are comfortable interacting with her and show her the utmost respect. The students are learning, and Ms. Taylor is teaching.
Celia and I have known Ms. Taylor for over 13 years. She has been a great inspiration to our Granddaughter Charissa in more ways than people can imagine and if anyone deserves this award it is her. I support Sashu Taylor as LifeChanger for 2018 for many reasons. I've known Sashu for about 5 years plus. We both work for Broward County Public Schools, but we did not meet as colleagues. We met at our place of worship, and came to know that we're both educators. Sashu should be nominated, because she is a Life Changer. She lives to changes lives, whether you're her student, friend, relative, or stranger. Sashu is actively involved with the community to educate all ages academically, socially, and physically. She is an inspiration to me in every way, especially in the area of fitness. Growing up with body image challenges, I've learned from Sashu how to be confident in this area. I've joined Sashu in a dance fitness class that she's been apart of, and I am having fun doing something I would have never stepped out to do on my own. Shashu is an excellent teacher and coach. As the Athletic Director of FGMS sports, I know that I can count on Shashu to fulfill her role as the co-coach of both girls soccer and volleyball with out question. She has always been eager to serve our student athletes with a positive and uplifting spirit. So far, as to be named Coach of the Year for 2016 - 2017.

Shashu and I met when I began my teaching career six years ago. I remember walking the hall to arrive and set up on my first day of pre planning. I was excited about my first teaching job but extremely overwhelmed. As I struggled to find the key on my key ring to open my new room I heard a kind voice behind me call “Hi how are you? My names Shashu!” She began to tell me about her time teaching and how she too had first day jitters. She expressed that if I needed anything I could come and see her. Many people said that very same thing, but Shashu meant it. As our time went on she would continue to offer assistance, encourage me and motivate me to give my students the best I had. She shared her teaching practices unselfishly. Provided a plethora of suggestions to build rapport with my students “handshake, hug or high five!”, “Check in with them,” “Check out these daily progress reports.” I thank her endlessly for her support and encouragement not only to me, but to her students. Many went on to become my students after being taught by Shashu. I could always tell the difference because they were so full of love and confidence. She is the epitome of a life changer. I know beyond a doubt that the students and colleagues she has touched will never forget her impact. Courageous, kind and giving; Shashu is a life changer indeed.
I have known Shashu for 3 years now. We met my second year of teaching when I transferred to Broadview Elementary. She defines what leadership. In my opinion a leader must have a vision, be motivated and show empathy towards those they are leading.
Shashu’s vision has been to serve her community and to empower various individuals by taking the grass roots approach. This is evident with her non-profit organization M.E.N.D. and her professional development business. Both businesses have made and are continuing to make a positive impact in our community.
My second year of teaching was a whirlwind. Shashu went out of her way to ensure that I understood everything that I was unfamiliar with. I remember vividly as we prepared our classes for the Florida Standards Assessment, I was nervous for my students. She could tell that something was bothering me because I was sweating profusely. She gracefully walked to the sink, grabbed a few napkins and sad, “Brother relax. You have prepared your scholars and now it is time for them to perform as expected.” The empathy she showed to me has me grateful that I met her. She was able to calm me be down and reassure me that things would be ok. Genuine attributes of an impactful leader.
She has been motived to serve since the day I met her. She looks for every opportunity to help and motivate others. Once I learned that she had became a volleyball coach at Forest Glenn Middle School I was excited. Experiencing her watch tutorials on strength, conditioning and volleyball fundamentals were impressive. I knew at that moment those young ladies would learn what it took to work hard and most importantly how to become leaders on and off the volleyball court.
