She greets them warmly at the door every day, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued in her classroom. Her classroom operates on a foundation of structure and respect. Ms. Okonkwo establishes routines early and follows through consistently, so students understand what is expected and are held accountable in a fair and calm manner. She emphasizes positive behavior and uses redirection discreetly to avoid embarrassing anyone.
When students struggle, Ms. Okonkwo addresses concerns privately, fostering trust and dignity. She encourages student ownership by offering choices and opportunities for students to voice their opinions. She balances individual work with group activities and integrates hands-on learning to keep students engaged. She arrives prepared, professional, and focused every day, modeling the seriousness she expects from her students.

Students create a Milestones folder in which the onus for preparation is on the students, which teaches them to be responsible and accountable for their own learning. Mrs. Okonkwo brings out their best and celebrates their achievements. Students feel heard in her presence. While she expects the best from her students, they rise to the occasion. She was the Teacher of the Year for our school and was even a finalist for the TOTY for the county. Not only is she an amazing teacher, but she is also a fantastic person. I had the pleasure of working alongside her for two years, and it has been a joy to have her as a colleague and a friend. Her joy radiates from the inside out, and she loves to learn as much as she loves to teach. She is most deserving of this honor.
Kynisha is a world-class educator and all-around individual. I had the honor of working on a team with her many years ago early on in my career, and it was truly a blessing as I learned so much simply by watching the way she engaged with her students. She embodies the belief that relationships are foundational to learning. I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
I had the privilege of working with Mrs. Okonkwo at Harlem Middle. She is truly an outstanding educator and one of the most dedicated educators I know! As a high school physical science teacher, she brings innovation to her classroom through engaging labs, frequent assessments, and strong communication with families. While a veteran in the profession, Mrs. O consistently seeks ways to refine her practices to best serve students. She has a gift for building students’ confidence and helping them believe in themselves! Her recognition as a district Teacher of the Year finalist was well-deserved, and I believe she would be an excellent choice for LifeChanger of the Year.
I've known Mr. O since her teaching day in Walton County. Actually Dougherty County. Where she inspired many little curious minds. Mrs. O just didn't inspire just students but her coworkers too. I am proud to see she is still inspiring minds apparently all across the state of Georgia. Proud of you Mr. O and thank you for all that you do.
Ms. Okonkwo has truly made a lasting difference in my son’s experience with science. Ms.O taught my daughter. She believed in her and set high expectations. My daughter loved Ms O. As a colleague of Ms O I was able to see how she motivated and demanded the best from her students. Her classroom was positive, rigorous, and a community. She is most deserving of this nomination!
Kynisha is an amazing woman. She has definitely made an Imprint on me. I was a paraprofessional in her classroom three years ago and learned so much from her. She is a bright and caring person.
