As a second-year first-grade teacher, Ms. Ford believes that a positive learning environment starts with strong relationships and consistent routines. She focuses on building trust and a sense of community from day one through morning meetings, team-building activities, and getting to know each student as an individual. Her goal is to create a classroom where every child feels seen, safe, and supported.
Clear expectations, structure, and positive reinforcement help students feel confident and capable. She uses visual schedules, class jobs, and simple, positively framed rules that focus on kindness, responsibility, and doing your best. She also teaches social-emotional skills daily to help students navigate challenges and build empathy.
Creating a positive environment also depends on having the materials and resources students need to learn effectively. Ms. Ford does her best to stay resourceful, find creative solutions, and make the most of what is available. It's not always easy, but she remains committed to showing up with a positive attitude, celebrating small wins, and giving students the best experience possible because they deserve it. Her primary focus has been on being present in the classroom and supporting their students' growth. She has poured her energy into building a strong foundation as a teacher, learning, adjusting, and doing everything she can to help the kids thrive.
