Alexis Howard was nominated anonymously.

Ms. Howard creates a positive classroom environment by fostering a space where every student feels valued, respected, and encouraged to grow. She builds strong relationships through consistent routines, clear expectations, and positive reinforcement. Her classroom emphasizes collaboration, hands-on learning, and real-world connections to keep students engaged. She also celebrates effort and progress to build confidence and motivation. By modeling kindness and maintaining a calm, structured atmosphere, she helps students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

One of her most pressing classroom needs is flexible seating and hands-on math tools that support student engagement and learning. Many of her students are kinesthetic learners who focus better when they're not confined to traditional desks. Items like wobble stools, floor cushions, and lap desks would allow them to move while learning, which boosts concentration and reduces disruptive behavior. Additionally, they need math manipulatives—such as place value blocks, counting coins, and fraction tiles—that help students grasp abstract concepts through real-world application. These tools would allow her to differentiate instruction and provide small group support more effectively. With these resources, students will feel more comfortable, stay engaged longer, and build a greater understanding of math, setting a strong foundation for future academic success.

Throughout her teaching career, she's been dedicated to creating a supportive, high-impact learning environment for all students. She was honored to be named Teacher of the Month, a recognition of her commitment to student growth, collaboration, and positive classroom culture. She also had the opportunity to mentor a first-year teacher, guiding lesson planning, classroom management, and student engagement strategies. These experiences reflect her leadership, teamwork, and passion for supporting both students and colleagues in a thriving school community.
