Alicia Walsh was nominated anonymously.

Ms. Walsh works hard to create a space that fosters community, innovation, and growth. She is always working on new ways to foster communication between herself and her students, as well as student-to-student discourse. A positive and collaborative work area with simple and clear expectations makes the experience positive for both Ms. Walsh and her students. She has shown how effective these teaching methods are by helping several non-proficient students gain proficiency in both reading and writing.

To further assist the school community, Ms. Walsh has successfully created and implemented a new writing program. In the spirit of innovation and differentiation, Ms. Walsh will be creating and implementing a student-paced classroom. Students will be working in small groups on the same materials, but at a pace they select to ensure mastery.

Mrs. Walsh is my best teacher friend! She is the best part of coming to work every day. She is silly and has the most beautiful soul. She is a master at her craft and teaches me everything she knows so that I can grow to be the best ELA teacher.

Alicia Walsh was a mentor to me when I started teaching about 25 years ago. I had the honor of sitting in on her ELA classes and witnessing firsthand what an amazing teacher she is. She has been teaching children and changing lives since before I met her those many years ago, and her passion has only grown in all of these years since. She is the epitome of what this award stands for.

She’s been a lifesaver for her own family as well; we need more people like her.

I love to see recognition given where it’s due. Growing up competing against Alicia’s son Jack, I have spent lots of time getting to know her and the family. I have never experienced anything but support and encouragement from her. Although competing on my scooter is different than school, Alicia still finds a way to motivate myself and others. Congratulations !! - Revin
