Ms. Phlegm creates a positive learning environment by ensuring that all of her students feel represented, valued, and heard. She thoughtfully decorates her classroom to honor and celebrate a variety of cultural holidays, such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, and Eid, helping students see their identities reflected in the space around them. Committed to providing access to learning beyond the classroom, Ms. Phlegm also goes the extra mile to supply books by purchasing additional copies from local Goodwill and thrift stores, expanding opportunities for her students to read and grow. Beyond academics, Ms. Phlegm is passionate about teaching life skills that her students will carry with them well into the future. In her 5th grade classroom, students learn how to budget, pay "rent" for their desks and chairs, and practice treating others with kindness and respect. By fostering this type of inclusive and practical learning environment, Ms. Phlegm helps her students grow, not only as learners, but as thoughtful, responsible individuals.
