Tim Vang was nominated by Kia Song, the parent of a student.

"It is with great honor and heartfelt appreciation that I nominate Mr. Tim Vang for LifeChanger of the Year. Mr. Vang is the embodiment of what this award stands for; he transforms lives, builds dreams, and creates a lasting impact far beyond the classroom," said Song.

Mr. Vang grew up without a father figure, and because of that, he looked to his teachers for guidance, structure, and inspiration. Those early educators shaped his path. Today, he's doing the same for his students. He understands what it means to need a role model, and he steps into that role for many children who may be missing that presence in their lives. To his students, Mr. Vang is not only a teacher, but he is also a mentor, a steady presence, and, for some, a father figure.

As a Hmong Immersion teacher, Mr. Vang is not only preserving a language and culture but also empowering students to embrace who they are. In his classroom, learning isn't just academic. Learning is cultural, emotional, and deeply personal. He instills pride in his students' heritage while helping them excel in reading, writing, math, and beyond.

What truly sets Mr. Vang apart is his intentional effort to learn each student's personality. He takes the time to understand who they are, their strengths, their fears, what motivates them, and what helps them grow. This insight allows him to guide each student in a way that is both effective and empowering. Students often describe Mr. Vang as the "strict teacher with high expectations," but they say it with respect. His structure, discipline, and clear standards make students feel safe, guided, and challenged. They know that he holds them to a higher standard because he believes in their potential. And year after year, his students rise to meet those expectations, often surprising even themselves.

Mr. Vang sets big goals for his students because he sees the greatness within them. He teaches them to aim high, think critically, and lead with compassion. He encourages them not just to succeed, but to become better versions of themselves, and even better than he ever imagined for himself. Beyond the classroom, he builds strong relationships with families, mentors, fellow educators, and contributes to a school culture that is grounded in equity, love, and purpose. His quiet leadership and unwavering dedication make him a pillar in the school community.

"In a world that often overlooks everyday heroes, Mr. Tim Vang stands out. He's not just preparing students for the next grade. He's preparing them for life, with integrity, humility, and heart. For all these reasons and many more, I proudly nominate Mr. Tim Vang for the LifeChanger of the Year award," said Song.

I’d like to take a moment to recognize someone who truly deserves this nomination, not just for what he does, but for who he is. Mr Tim Vang is the kind of teacher every student remembers, not just because he teaches well, but because he genuinely cares. His dedication to education is obvious and it makes a real difference. But what makes this nomination even more special to me is that he’s not just an amazing teacher, but he’s also my brother-in-law. And as someone who knows him beyond the classroom, I can honestly say the way he treats his students is the same way he treats his family and community; with respect, kindness, and consistency. On top of all that, he’s deeply involved in the community and at church. He’s not just present but he participates, he volunteers, he leads by example. So this nomination isn’t just about recognizing a great teacher, it’s about celebrating a person who lives with purpose and heart every single day. And I’m incredibly proud to call him my brother-in-law.
