There was a student who had lost a parent, and they were struggling academically and emotionally. Ms. Maynor coordinated counseling services, provided grief resources to the family, helped arrange transportation, and worked with the student's teachers to create a plan of support. Months later, the student is thriving. They credit Ms. Maynor with helping them "feel like life could be okay again."

Congratulations! Tammy is an amazing person. I met her several years ago during Hurricane Matthew. During that time, Tammy had lost her home, cars and belongings to the flood waters. Her entire neighborhood was gone. I met her and her family along with other neighbors standing on the edge of the highway looking at what was left of their homes. As I delivered donated cleaning supplies, water and offered a caring word, I was also greeted by Tammy with a friendly smile and an encouraging word. Tammy thanked me for everything I offered her but asked me to pass it along to someone that would be less fortunate than her and her family. She was grateful but wanted someone else to be taken care of also. When I left Tammy that day, I felt a sense of happiness in my own heart. For the one person that needed help, wanted someone else to have what she had. She was the uplifter, the warm-hearted person I didn't expect to meet that day. We shared stories, laughter, hugs and tears that day but she never lost her smile. As our recovery van drove away, there stood Tammy waving good-bye telling us to stay safe. Tammy has a love for everyone she comes in contact with. A total stranger that acts as if she has known you her entire life. This is a day I'll never forget. A day that changed me as a volunteer. Tammy, you're so deserving of this award and so much more. You are truly a Life Changer. #LCOY

Her compassion for the children there went above and beyond any expectations of her. I admired her quiet spirit and care and concern for the children that needed her. Amazing mother, amazing grandmother, amazing person, amazing dedication to everything she does! Tammy has been a life changer her whole life. From Lumberton's recreation department, to volunteer firefighting at Pine Terrace, to many years of teaching at West Lumberton Elementary, and now to her time as a social worker at Carroll Middle. Tammy has been there for the community for a long time and always with the best interest in mind. She's compassionate especially about her time with the Public Schools of Robeson County and has spent many years working to advocate for and to better the lives of children in our county. She is known to put in extra effort for children in need and to be an uplifting presence for all students. It's an honor to be nominated for this award. I'm overwhelmed by the comments that my family and friends have left on this page. It's nothing good that I have done for anyone. It's God's blessings he has bestowed upon me that allows me to be the person I am. I love helping everyone, and I believe in treating others the way I'd like to be treated. A little history about myself is: I'm married to a wonderful husband who has always been supportive of all my dreams. I have two handsome sons, two daughter in laws and three beautiful grandchildren. I began this educational journey after becoming a mother of two school aged children. I worked in home health and wanted to be on the same schedule as my children. I became a substitute teacher, seven years later; an instructional assistant, three years later; an Exceptional Teacher and twelve years later; a School Social Worker to nearly 700 students. Regardless of my job title, I have always tried to give my best to every student I've encountered. I view every student as I do my own children. Treating every child with love and kindness. I want every student to be their best and succeed in everything. I encourage every student to always reach for the stars and never let anyone disrupt their dreams for their future. I worked with Tammy for several years. She has done more to help low wealth students than anyone I have ever seen! Her heart is centered around helping less privileged students feel like other students who have everything they need. I have seen here get food, clothes, and school materials, even if it came out of her own pocket. She goes above and beyond to make sure students come to school regularly. Mrs. Maynor is well deserving of the Life Changer Award. Her job title is School Social Worker. However, she holds many hats at our school. Mrs. Maynor is willing to do any job that is thrown at her. She does her job exceptionally and with great pride. She does home visits, phone calls, car duty, lunch duty, takes out the trash, sweep/ mops floors, comforts sobbing children, listens to parents that feel like they have no one who cares, goes to town to buy clothing, coats, socks and shoes for children in need, gives food bags to our homeless children (this is just a portion of what she does). I worked with Tammy for several years at West Lumberton Elementary. Tammy is a fun-loving, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful person. I have known Mrs. Maynor for about 21 years. To know her is to love her. She is genuine in all that she does in school and out of school. She is one you can depend on at any time of the day. There's so much I could tell you about her but, there's not enough of time in a day. There are several things I can remember about her when we first met. We had several classes at a community college together. On the days I wanted to quit, Mrs. Maynor was the encourager to push me to continue. As I fussed about taking classes or things I didn't like about the teachers instruction, Mrs. Maynor would push me to look at the future outcome of continuing to go to college to get that degree. She worked a full time job, went to school part time to obtain her degree (at night), ran the baseball concession stand while her husband coached baseball, and together they also managed to mow about 15 yards for customers in an effort to pay for her collage classes. On top of that she kept her household going with two small boys. Mrs. Maynor started as a substitute teacher, moving up to a teacher assistant, then an Exceptional Children's Teacher and now a School Social Worker. She has faced many challenges along the way, with her dad, mom and mother in law passing away. Her home was flooded in 2016 by Hurricane Matthew and again in 2018 with Hurricane Florence, being homeless for a while. Having to live with someone else, she made it. Our school also flooded in 2016 causing Mrs. Maynor to loose all of her teaching supplies and our school being relocated to another school site. Through all of this she still pushed herself forward to care for her students and co-workers. I remember a time when a tornado came through N.C. touching down in the town of Rowland where our school had students living in that area. Mrs. Maynor did not stop until she knew our students were safe and ok. Her relationship with families is amazing. There's something about her personality that is able to reach everyone in a positive and loving way. I said all of that to say this... regardless of what challenges a person faces in life, when you put others first like Mrs. Maynor (does every day), their zeal to help others never changes. You will never know the love she has for others until you meet her. She is a life Changer and is deserving of this award. #LCOY

Mrs. Maynor has a heart of gold and a compassion for students. I teach self contained students and there's never been a time Mrs. Maynor turned the needs of my students down. She has provided coats, socks, toboggans and gloves to keep the students warm in the winter. Her clothes closet and food pantry is always accessible and full to help our homeless students or any student in need. She goes above and beyond working with outside agencies to provide gifts for students. She does home visits, makes phone calls, keeps a positive relationship with the parents, does whatever she can to help staff members and still finds a way to do her job with a smile everyday. Anyone you ask will tell you they love Mrs. Maynor. She is an amazing worker and a great asset to our school. She is very deserving of this award.

I had the privilege of working alongside Mrs. Maynor at West Lumberton when she served as my teacher assistant, and from the very beginning, it was clear that she was destined to make a lasting impact on students' lives. Her dedication, compassion, and natural ability to connect with students were extraordinary. I watched with admiration as she pursued her education and later became an exceptional teacher. One of her greatest strengths has always been her ability to build strong, meaningful relationships with students. Even after transitioning into her role as a social worker, her commitment to students never wavered. She continues to be a powerful advocate and positive force in the lives of countless young people. I am so thankful to our Lord and Savior that he has given my son and my daughter-in-law, such a true friend. Tammy shares her love for God with my children. I have known Tammy Maynor for 20 plus years. She was a coworker of mine for many years. She loves the kids and the community. She is a great asset to the Public Schools of Robeson County.
