My mom is the true definition of a lifechanger. She has always been authentically herself and raised me to be the woman and person I am today. I wouldn’t have understood what loyalty truly means without being her daughter. She leads with love, strength, and unwavering values, and I carry those lessons with me every day. I first met Miss Perone when I was a nervous freshman, still trying to figure out who I was and where I belonged. It was the kind of year where the hallways felt like mazes, and every face seemed to blend into a blur of people who were smarter, cooler, or more confident than me. Miss Perone was the first person who saw through that uncertainty in the daily conversations we had.
I remember one of our earliest conversations. I done bombed a quiz in biology and was sitting in the corner of the classroom, trying to pretend I didn’t care. She walked up, set a piece of chocolate on my desk, and said, “You did great bud, don't let it get to you. If you aren't proud of yourself, I'll be proud for you.” No one had ever framed learning that way for me, however cringey it sounds now. It was one of the first times i heard anything remotely like that mindset.
Over the next few years, she became the person I turned to whenever things felt overwhelming. My little escapades from class to Ms. Perone's was always a little secret I kept. When I was panicking about my first big presentation, she stayed after school for two hours, making me practice until my shaky voice turned steady. Imposter syndrome was a constant bother in my life, I questioned if I was worth to join the advanced classes offered at my school. she looked me straight in the eye and told me she already saw the student I could become. Her belief in me was so steady, so constant, that she was one of the reasons I was able to become confident like I was today.
But what made Miss Perone life-changing wasn’t just her guidance inside the classroom, it was her humanity outside of it. I still remember a rainy afternoon when she noticed I didn’t have an umbrella. Without hesitation, she pulled hers out of her bag, handed it to me, and walked to her car in the rain. It was such a small act but it mean the world to me. It showed me that real mentorship wasn't really about the grand speeches. It’s about the quiet, consistent ways someone shows they care just like Ms. Perone did.
Her personality shines no matter where she is. My mom always taught me that teachers are heros, and I could not agree more. Ms. Perone has her own fair share of struggles, like everyone does in life. But she made it a goal, or at least something of vital importance to make sure to bring others up. She is not only there for comfort, but she is a living example to me that I am able to be just as strong as her. If you'd ever ask me what words define her? Every positive one. From kind all the way to brilliant.
Now, as a senior looking back, I see how much of who I am traces back to Miss Perone. She taught me to speak up when my instinct was to stay silent. She showed me that failure isn’t final. She modeled kindness in a way that made me want to carry it forward. To call her a mentor doesn’t feel like enough, she was the person who rewrote the trajectory of my high school experience.
That’s why I believe Miss Perone is more than deserving of recognition as a true life-changer. Because for me, she didn’t just change my grades or my confidence. She changed my life, truly.

Mrs. Perone was the first was more than a teacher, even tho she was working double time as the magnet teacher for an underfunded program, she still found time to look deep enough into each student to see the needs we tried to hide. She started a body positivity club that impacted the whole school & put body shaming & self hatred on the chopping block. She encouraged us to be kind to ourselves and eachother. LOUDLY! I’ll always cheer for her because she taught us to cheer for ourselves exactly as we were.
