Ms. Yudelkys Rush believes that a positive classroom environment is essential to student success, engagement, and well-being. In her Spanish language classroom, she intentionally cultivates a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered atmosphere through structured practices, relationship-building, and culturally responsive teaching.

From the start of the school year, Ms. Rush works with students to co-create classroom norms, promoting a sense of ownership, respect, and accountability. Clear expectations and consistent routines provide a sense of security, while opportunities for student voice and choice enhance motivation and engagement. At the heart of her approach is a deep commitment to building strong relationships. She takes the time to learn about each student’s interests, strengths, and goals in order to make instruction relevant and meaningful. Through positive reinforcement, restorative practices, and regular check-ins, she fosters trust and open communication.

Ms. Rush is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where all students feel seen, heard, and valued. She integrates diverse perspectives into her curriculum, differentiates instruction to meet a range of learning needs, and celebrates cultural and linguistic diversity. She actively addresses bias and promotes social-emotional learning, helping students develop empathy, self-awareness, and collaboration skills.

Her ultimate goal is to ensure that every student feels safe to take risks, grow academically, and build confidence in their abilities. She recognizes that a positive classroom environment does not happen by chance—it is the result of intentional, daily choices that prioritize students and lay the foundation for lifelong learning in Spanish.

Beyond the classroom, Ms. Rush has coordinated multicultural events and heritage celebrations that increased student engagement and cultural awareness across the school community. She has collaborated with content-area teachers to adapt lessons for bilingual learners, leading to improved comprehension and participation. In addition, she designed and implemented a dual-language curriculum aligned with state standards, supporting both academic achievement and native language development.
