Danielle Harteau was nominated anonymously.

The students' safety and comfort are Ms. Harteau's top concerns. She creates her classroom environment to be warm and welcoming, and allows each student to feel seen and heard. Freshmen are nervous coming into a big high school, and she works throughout the semester to get each student a bit more out of their comfort zone. Ms. Harteau gets students to understand that it's ok to be vulnerable. They share ideas, experiences, and connect their lives inside and outside of school. Her passion is to be that constant adult who always shows up for students, no matter what has happened. She always tell her students she is in their corner, not in the ring to tear them down.

Her Freshman Studies class supports her students' dreams and helps them explore potential careers and college options. They work on strengths together and build upon areas for growth. Knowing that her students graduate each year, or pass classes even with challenges, is her greatest accomplishment. Knowing she was a small part of their journey is rewarding to her.

I never stopped to think about who was a “life changer” in my circle of friends until I met Danielle. She gracefully encourages people to become the best versions of themselves. When she talks about teaching and her students it is clear that it is not just a job to her. She truly cares for each of her students, some being very troubled, yet she meets them where they are, without judgment and tries to help them see the potential in themselves that she sees. She wants them to succeed in life, not just to get through high school. I have never known a teacher to be so dedicated to the wellbeing of her students until meeting Danielle. I often wonder how much better off every student could be if every teacher displayed the same dedication, encouragement, and attentiveness that Danielle displays. She is truly a life changer at heart.

Danielle has been the perfect representation of being a life changer and here is how. She teaches in the top 5 worst school systems in our country, and does it with hopes to have more of an impact on today’s troubled youth. She took on personal training not for the money, but to help those who couldn’t help themselves. Even if this award doesn’t go to her, she will have already won! She makes a positive impact on everyone she meets day in and day out. She has lived her life with the purpose of giving the knowledge she’s earned to others. No matter what, I know she’ll continue to do so moving forward.

if anyone one teacher deserves recognition its Danielle Harteau. Her dedication to her students is immeasurable and priceless. Danielle's heart felt relationships with her students and friends are something which makes her special. She not only teaches. she has that IT factor that many people do not have. I can continue giving accolades to this special teacher, but giving a life changing award would be the apex of her professionalism.
