Ms. Drost makes students feel welcome by greeting them at the door every day with a smile and calling them by name. She loves getting to know what they’re involved in, and she always checks in to see how things are going for them. She wants every student to feel seen, cared for, and excited to walk into the classroom, leading to a positive environment. She knows students can’t focus on learning if they’re hungry, so she always keep snacks on hand, using her own money, to make sure they have something to eat while they’re there. Her students also know they’re welcome to come by and grab a snack from the room between classes, because hunger doesn’t care about income. If you’re hungry, you’re hungry, and every student’s situation is different. She always makes sure they have what they need to get them through the rest of their classes, too. It’s one small way she tries to remove barriers so they can focus on what really matters: loving to learn and feeling loved.

Mrs. Drost has always been supportive in and out of school. Whether that be showing up for her students while they were in school and after graduation or sending a simple “happy birthday” message or “I’m proud of you” message. She always had a genuine interest in how we’re doing in school and our personal lives. She shows compassion and joy in watching us succeed and doing her best to contribute to our success in any way she can! She is very deserving of any recognition to her kindness??

Samatha is a teacher who puts the needs of her students above her own. She follows their accomplishments in and outside the classroom. Each student leaves knowing they belong and have someone in their corner. A recent survey found 1 in 2 students do not feel they have a place to belong. Samantha makes sure each of her students know that they do belong and that her classroom door is always open! In a world that has turned into a place where everyone is out for their own gains, she is not and puts action behind her behind her love of teaching. Please consider her for this worthy grant as it will got towards the students in her care!
