Lisa Dickson was nominated anonymously.

Ms. Dickson is a dedicated early childhood educator who builds strong relationships with her students by getting to know their names, interests, families, and daily moods. She fosters a positive classroom environment with clear, student-created expectations that promote ownership and responsibility. Open communication is a priority in her classroom, where students are encouraged to share their ideas and feel heard in a safe, inclusive space. Ms. Dickson celebrates diversity through stories and books that reflect different cultures and perspectives, ensuring every child feels represented and valued. She also uses positive reinforcement, classroom incentives, and regular celebrations to recognize both individual and group accomplishments, emphasizing teamwork and mutual support.

This year, Ms. Dickson is transitioning to a new Title I school and teaching kindergarten for the first time. With a classroom of mostly Spanish-speaking students, many of whom are new to the country, her focus is on creating a warm, welcoming space where all students can thrive. To support this shift, she would like developmentally appropriate centers and hands-on activities for kindergarten, as well as resources that engage both beginning and more advanced learners.

Ms. Dickson began her teaching journey at age 40. She graduated magna cum laude and is now in her third year as a teacher, bringing compassion, resilience, and a deep love for learning into every classroom she leads.
