Heidi Auvinen was nominated by her advisor, Robert Marchewka.

"It is with great pride and appreciation that I nominate Heidi Auvinen for the LifeChanger of the Year Award. Since 1997, Heidi has served the students and families of Gardner Public Schools with unwavering dedication as an elementary school English Language Learner (ELL) teacher. For nearly three decades, Heidi has created a warm, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment where every child—regardless of language or background—feels seen, heard, and empowered," said Marchewka.

Ms. Auvinen's work is both academically impactful and deeply personal. She not only helps her students build the language skills they need to succeed, but she also nurtures their confidence, celebrates their cultures, and serves as a bridge between school and home. Her classroom is a place of belonging, a place where students learn to use their voices and believe in their potential. Her influence goes beyond her classroom. She collaborates closely with fellow educators, supports families navigating a new school system, and is a steady advocate for equity and inclusion within the district. Her kindness, patience, and professionalism are admired by all who work with her.

"Heidi Auvinen is the very definition of a LifeChanger, an educator who transforms lives through compassion, connection, and commitment. The Gardner community is lucky to have her, and she is richly deserving of this recognition," said Marchewka.
