Ms. Huizar is a dedicated music educator at Del Sol Academy, where she has spent the past eight years building a welcoming and inclusive orchestra program. She believes that music is a universal language that connects people across cultures and backgrounds, and she works hard to ensure that every student who wants to play an orchestral instrument has the opportunity to do so in a positive and supportive environment. Under her leadership, the orchestra program has grown from about 50 magnet students to over 340, with multiple ensembles consistently earning Superior ratings at festivals.

Ms. Huizar is deeply committed to helping students succeed through music, setting goals, expressing themselves, and building community through shared musical experiences. This award would help her continue her hands-on approach to instrument repair and maintenance. She typically handles repairs herself, and funding would allow her to purchase essential supplies, such as wood glue, clamps, bows, rosin, and replacement parts. These tools are crucial for maintaining instruments in playing condition, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, have access to quality instruments and a comprehensive musical experience. Her goal this year is to expand instruction to younger students and foster a lifelong love for the arts.
