Ms. Jones' personality shines through in her classroom, where students not only learn content but also get to know who she is as a person. As a coach of multiple sports, she values what extracurriculars bring to students' lives and makes it a point to support them beyond the classroom by attending games, performances, and school events. Teaching at a Title I school, Ms. Jones understands that school can be a safe haven for many students. Megan Jones is an amazing teacher and role model. She has accomplished so much academically (2 master's degrees and counting), is a coach for the high school tennis team and the softball team, worked with the Honors society, volunteers for school events and goes to the school productions just to show the kids she cares and that someone is there for them, even when their parents and families are not. She has provided safety for her students during many lock downs, guns found on campus, and one gun found in her classroom and fights on campus. Megan attends every high school graduation, buys the yearbooks, so all her students can sign it and feel valued and remembered. She brings passion, a positive attitude and enthusiasm to everything she does. She also participates annually in the school sponsored Wishmas program that provides Christmas gifts to the students; by collecting money from friends and family, buying gifts and spending a day wrapping them. She also decorates her classroom to provide interesting displays on history and things she is personally interested in, so the kids know who she is and it strengthens their connection. Her family and friends are beyond proud of her. Megan is living her dream teaching at a disadvantaged, lower income high school.

I have known Megan all of her life. She was the second oldest of six grandchildren. Megan was the guardian, referee, helper and playmate when there were all over to our home. As she grew up, she was a very good student. In elementary and middle school she took Spanish so she could interact with all her classmates. She was always asking our daughter about teaching. When she decided to become a teacher, she jumped in with both feet. Most of the time during her undergraduate and first Masters she went to school full time and worked 3 parttime jobs. When she received her teaching certificate she could have had a position teaching in her high school or most any other school in the CCSD. However, she chose to teach in a high-risk high school where she was only a couple of years older than her students. She is respected by her peers and her students. She teaches AP History in her classroom and coaches tennis and baseball. She handled a very serious situation in her room when a student brought a loaded handgun into her class. She did not panic and handled the situation as prescribed and the incident ended with no one injured. Megan also has a second Masters in English Language Learner which helps her reach all her Hispanic students. She is more than deserving of receiving this award.

Megan is a young woman with an old soul. Her love of teaching, concern for her students and her absolute love of family shine forth every single day. She loves to make learning fun and immerses herself in everything she does. She constantly sacrifices her time to ensure students and student/athletes are prepared, dedicated and set up for success. Megan consistently sets an example for not only her students, but for her peers and family alike. Emulating Megan will only lead to success and fulfillment! Humorously, I know her love of teaching is surpassed only by her love of Golden Knights hockey. Megan is immensely respected by her students, her co-workers, her husband and family. Simply stated- If only all students could experience Mrs Ruiz- the world would be a greater place.

Mrs.Ruiz is an amazing teacher. She makes sure to buy toiletries like deodorant, tooth brushes, feminine products for her students because she knows sometimes not all students have that luxury to have access to these items. We need more teachers like this!

As Megan’s aunt I always thought she would make a great teacher. She is a good role model and mentor for her students. She steps up as a coach or help with various other sports for her school and is always willing to go above and beyond to help not only the students but her fellow teachers and administrators as well.

Megan Jones spends so much of her own personal time and expenses going out of her way to do things for the kids at the school. From classroom to coaching to spreading the word of Wishmas so the kids can get things they want or need around the holidays. Truly a deserving teacher and person.

Mrs. Ruiz gives her all in everything she does. Teaching, coaching, helping students, helping coworkers, and just being an all around great person!

Mrs Ruiz aka Miss Jones is a new age teacher with old fashioned values. She makes learning fun, dressing as Rosie the Riveter when teaching about WWII and explaining economics through a game of Monopoly. She is always willing to sacrifice her personal time to help a student struggling to learn or an athlete wanting to improve. She has a heart of gold for students in need providing an anonymous classroom basket of hygiene products & school supplies. Her students show her respect, courtesy, and good behavior because they receive the same from her. I wish all students were lucky enough to have teachers like Mrs Ruiz, not only for their benefit but also for our future ??

Laura Posted 11 months ago

Megan Jones is a dear friend of mine and an incredible educator and support for students of all ages and ability levels. She cares deeply for the students in her classroom and the school environment.

Carter Miller Posted 11 months ago

Megan has been a tremendous teacher and advocate for our students & staff at Desert Pines High School. A coach of multiple sports, Tennis & Softball to name a few, she is frequently on campus beyond her scheduled contract time with hosting practices for her teams, working with students to re-teach key material, providing students emotional support with a safe place to speak, and assisting in various after school activities. Not only is she committed to the students of Desert Pines, but Megan also works to plan staff events to help build community & camaraderie amongst the staff and teachers. Her motivation for helping students has also led her to obtaining two separate masters degrees so that she can better assist all students, along with providing herself as a model to show students that hard work does indeed pay off. Megan has been a wonderful friend & teacher to work with the past four years and is a sure candidate for LifeChanger of the Year.
