Trevor McIntyre was nominated by Justin Sears, his colleague.

In the world of education, few individuals leave a mark as lasting and transformative as Mr. McIntyre. More than just a teacher, Mr. McIntyre is a visionary who has reshaped how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is approached at the middle school level. His innovative spirit, dedication to equity, and ability to inspire those around him have made a profound impact not only on his students but also on his colleagues.

One of Mr. McIntyre's most significant contributions was the creation and introduction of a comprehensive STEM program for the entire middle school. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that he developed the program entirely on his own—designing the curriculum from the ground up and securing all necessary funding without institutional backing. His model proved so effective and forward-thinking that it was eventually adopted county-wide, influencing STEM education on a much broader scale. Recognizing the gender gap in STEM fields, Mr. McIntyre took an additional bold step by founding the Girls STEM program. This class was designed exclusively for female students interested in pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. It provided a supportive and empowering environment where young women could explore their interests, build confidence, and envision themselves in roles traditionally underrepresented by women.

Beyond his groundbreaking work in the classroom, Mr. McIntyre is also an exceptional mentor. "I had the privilege of being mentored by him during my first year of teaching—a time filled with both excitement and self-doubt. Like many new educators, I found it difficult to manage the demands of the profession and maintain a healthy work-life balance. In one particularly candid conversation, Mr. McIntyre offered a piece of advice that I have carried with me ever since: 'What we do here is important, but this job is too heavy to take home.' Those words gave me the perspective and permission I needed to protect my well-being while still committing fully to my students," said Sears.

Mr. McIntyre’s legacy is one of innovation, inclusivity, and unwavering support for others. He has not only shaped the future of STEM education in his region but has also guided and uplifted the educators who walk beside him. It is rare to encounter someone who changes systems and lives at the same time—but that is exactly what Mr. McIntyre has done.
