Music that Describes Shannon

Shannon Hill was nominated by her principal, Catelyn Deromedi.

"Shannon Hill has been a dedicated teacher in Hot Springs County School District #1 since 2012. She has taught students in grades 7–12 across a wide range of courses, including Physical Education, Health, Lifetime Sports, Morning Wellness, and Advanced Health and Wellness," said Deromedi.

Ms. Hill is more than a physical education teacher; she's a champion for her students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being. At the high school level, she leads a special ninth-grade Health and PE course where students focus on health topics two days a week and enjoy physical activity the other two days. Her classes are hands-on, meaningful, and focused on helping students feel safe, supported, and motivated.

What makes Ms. Hill stand out is her creativity and drive to give students real-world experiences. She brings in guest speakers, organizes field trips, and creates opportunities for students to learn in ways that stick with them. In her Lifetime Sports class, for example, students try new activities such as skiing, kayaking, fishing, archery, and self-defense, skills they can enjoy for a lifetime.

"Shannon's students leave her class with more than just knowledge. They walk away with confidence, resilience, and a lasting love for wellness. Her impact goes far beyond the classroom. Shannon Hill is a true LifeChanger," said Deromedi.

I've been blessed to have Shannon as a daughter-in-law with her positive, uplifting personality. She is an incredible person, teacher and role model to students of all ages, including myself. I'm blown away by all the activities Shannon does with her Lifetime Sports class, PE/Health classes and Wellness class. Shannon has endless energy and jumps in wherever she is needed. Whether it is writing encouragements on the sidewalk in chalk for the Walk for Suicide Prevention or decorating the school bus for the athletes going to State Volleyball, the list goes on and on. I'm not sure she realizes how many lives she touches every day.

Shannon is an amazing teacher and Mentor to my son. She is his P.E. teacher, health and Lifetime Sports teacher. My son is on the spectrum and has a hard time with communication. She always makes sure he is included and advocates for him however necessary. She has helped him gain so much more independence and confidence. He has tried so many different sports and activities that I at one time thought he would never do. He is very successful in her classes and looks forward to them each day. Thanks Mrs. Hill you are the best and deserve the recognition!

There is so much to say about Shannon Hill. She is an amazing mom and wife, she is the best kind of friend one could ever have. Shannon is your biggest fan and is always available to help in anything you set your mind to accomplish. She is a coach, mentor to so many kids. She coached my daughter and is such an inspiration to my son. He has told me many times that if it wasn’t for Coach Hill I don’t think I would make it through school. I cannot think of another person that deserves this more. She changed lives on a daily basis and has the biggest heart! I am blessed to call her my friend!

It doesn’t surprise me that Shannon is being nominated! She has alway been a passionate person and I can’t believe how lucky her students are to have her. Not only is she super fun, but she works extremely hard. She always has others on her mind and wants the best for them. She is always thinking of new and fun ways to teach her students. Just a work horse and very creative. Shannon reminds me of her sweet Mama and she’s carrying her legacy on.

Shannon has been an innovator right from the start of her teaching career. She has given her students the start of lifelong sports they can do into their elder years. She is a role model for future PE teachers

Shannon Hill is the kind of teacher who shows up every day with heart, intention, and an unwavering belief in her students. She goes above and beyond, not because she has to, but because she genuinely cares. Her students feel seen, supported, and encouraged to be their best selves, and that kind of influence lasts a lifetime. She pours her heart and soul into teaching, and it shows in the confidence, growth, and connection her students carry with them. I especially appreciate the importance she puts on mental health. Thermopolis is incredibly blessed to have her.
