Music that Describes Ericka

Ericka Lohr was nominated by Tiffani Box-McHaskell, a member of the community.

"Ms. Ericka Lohr is phenomenal! Her spirit and enthusiasm are electric—you can see it in her smile and hear the sincerity in her voice. The three words that best describe her are phenomenal, nurturing, and encouraging," said Box-McHaskell.

"I had the privilege of meeting Ms. Lohr while teaching her class of eighth graders—about 100 students—about financial literacy. From the moment I stepped into her classroom, I could see how much she cared for each of her students. She takes the time to coach them personally, recognizing that some come from single-parent households or lack positive role models. She even checks in on their basic needs, asking if they want or need food—not just snack items, but real nourishment because she understands that learning is impossible without it," said Box-McHaskell.

"Her commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment stood out. One of her classes only had one girl surrounded by teen boys who all aspired to become athletes. She was hesitant to share her dream of becoming an author or lawyer, but I saw Ms. Lohr encourage her from afar, conversing about the success authors can achieve—right in front of the boys. It wasn't just for the girl's benefit—it was a lesson for all of them, showing them that success takes many forms," said Box-McHaskell.

"Ms. Lohr is also passionate about media and broadcasting, always finding ways to get students involved. During my visit, she set up a tripod and iPad to record students sharing their takeaways from the lesson. Before I left, she even had a group of students conduct an impromptu interview with me, quickly assigning roles for the anchor, director, and editor. The entire process was seamless, a testament to how well she engages her students and encourages them to take the initiative," said Box-McHaskell.

"Her contagious positivity inspires every student to strive for their best. I only volunteered for one day, and I was exhausted by the end. The patience, compassion, and dedication she shows every day are remarkable. Eighth grade is a critical year—a launch pad to secondary education—and many teens struggle to thrive without a strong foundation. Ms. Lohr provides that foundation, embodying discipline, real-world knowledge, calm and steady leadership, and an engaging teaching style that fosters respect. Every student listens when she speaks, and that respect extended to me during my visit," said Box-McHaskell.

"Ms. Lohr deserves to be recognized for her incredible impact. She is shaping young minds and futures in a way that goes far beyond the classroom, and I'm certain her students, their families, and her fellow educators all see the difference she is making," said Box-McHaskell.

Ms. Lohr is beyond deserving of this nomination! I have had the pleasure of collaborating with her as an instructional technology coach in the district for the past two years, and I can say firsthand that her classroom is a truly special place to be. You can feel the positive energy and the passion Ms. Lohr has for what she does radiate when you walk into her classroom. She makes learning engaging, and she establishes connections with every single one of her students. What I admire most is her fearless approach to growth; she is willing to step out of her comfort zone to try new things if it means a better experience for her students. Congratulations on your nomination, Ms. Lohr! Your students are beyond lucky to have you!

As educators, we know that learning cannot happen without trust, rapport, and connection; this is where Ms. Lohr truly shines. She invests deeply in her students both inside and outside the classroom. Whether she is attending their extracurricular activities, sponsoring a committee, or supervising an after-school event, her presence communicates unwavering support. Students adore Ms. Lohr because she is patient, understanding, and compassionate. She has a unique ability to reach even the most strong-willed students, helping them pause, listen, and reflect. Her passion for education is unmistakable. Ericka Lohr is an amazing educator. She walks the walk and talks the talk of a phenomenal motivator—ready to inspire students at a moment’s notice—while also serving as an exceptional and influential instructor. She makes historical events relevant and meaningful, bringing the past to life in ways that leave a lasting impact. I can recall visiting her classroom on several occasions and always anticipating learning something new. I remember a particular time after school when she devoted quality time to helping students rehearse for a Black History performance. She gave them her full, undivided attention, and the performance they delivered was nothing short of breathtaking. Ericka consistently volunteers her time to support students in various ways and is always a consummate professional, collaborating effectively with staff, parents, and students alike. Her uplifting spirit motivates others to believe in themselves, and her deep knowledge and sharp intellect shine through in everything she does. She is truly a treasure to our school community.

I’m honored to write this in support of Ms. Lohr’s nomination for the Lifechanger of the Year award. She has had a lasting impact on my son, Shemar, and our entire family. Ms. Lohr taught Shemar in third, fourth, and eighth grades—years that were incredibly formative for him. She wasn’t just his teacher; she was a steady source of encouragement, compassion, and belief. She showed up for him not only in the classroom, but also outside of it—attending his baseball and football games, and always making him feel seen and supported. What makes Ms. Lohr truly special is her ability to make every student feel like they matter. Whether they’re the top of the class or going through a tough time, she treats each child with the same level of care, attention, and respect. That kind of consistency built Shemar’s confidence and helped shape him into the young man he is today. Now, as a student-athlete excelling in college, Shemar still carries the lessons and encouragement he received from Ms. Lohr. Her influence has had a lasting effect on his academic and personal growth. And yes—she even made a point to enjoy my green beans, which speaks to how well she connects with families, not just students. Ms. Lohr is more than deserving of this recognition. She pours her heart into everything she does, and our family is incredibly grateful for her.

Over the years I have seen how her students have been are outspoken about how much they love her and how she's touched them. Congratulations on your nomination Ericka!

Ms. Lohr, thank you for ALL of your efforts and contributions to our youth! I absolutely love that you go above and beyond your "day to day". Recently I learned you also teach & encourage your students to learn about money and the stock market, leveraging thestockmarketgame.org and you coordinate with your fellow teachers to ensure they are supported in the activities of the stock market game. Kudos to you for understanding that children (and adults) need to learn about money & finance! Keep up the great work.

I am Ms.Lohr’s former student from 7th grade in 2014-2015 & I’ve never met a teacher more understanding than her still till this day with me finishing college. She always loved me like I was her own, was always there for me when needed, and always kept me on track. Her love and support is very rare and like no other. I wish I never took my time with her for granted because it flew so fast and if I could go back I would. Her teaching was even the best! I loved going to her class because I knew the energy was going to be fresh and comforting. Congratulations on this recognition Ms.Lohr you deserved this so much more sooner and I’m so proud of you. I had the privilege to meet Ms. Lohr in 3rd grade… I’m currently 27 years old so it’s been a while. She was one of those people in my educational journey that left an impact. Honestly, I don’t remember much of the academic curriculum that year in 3rd grade but what I do remember is how Ms. Lohr made me feel in that classroom. She cared deeply and we could feel the love she had for us and her role in educating youth. I will never forget the last day of classes that year when we both embraced one another with a big hug and many tears. She’s special and I knew it in 3rd grade and know all the students after me have been blessed to experience her as their teacher!

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Lohr in 3rd grade. Although I was not in her class, I envied those who were. Her bright and positive energy could be felt throughout the school and all the students adored her. I finally had the pleasure of being in Mrs. Lohr’s class for 7th and 8th grade back in 2016-2018. It’s been almost 10 years and I can still to this day feel her love and support. I was excited to go to her class daily and learn about all that she had to teach. Mrs.Lohr not only builds meaningful and loving relationships with students but she also dedicated her time to extra curricular activities such as honor societies and athletics. She was my coach in 8th grade and led the girls basketball team to state! All in all, I love Mrs. Lohr and she is one of the best teachers that I have ever had!

When I was in 7th grade, Ms. Lohr made me feel like I was one of her own kids. It wasn’t just about teaching—she truly cared. She supported, loved, and educated each of us like we were family. Even now, all these years later, we still keep in touch. I was 12 back then, and I’m 23 now—and she still never misses a birthday. She even still calls me by my middle name and pronounces it right every time. It might seem small, but it’s those little things that stick with you. That’s the kind of love and impact she carries—real, lasting, and genuine
