Susan Hundersmarck was nominated by Nichole Casady, a student's parent. 

"Susan (Mrs. H) is transformative, momentous, and the biggest role model for my six-year-old son. She goes above and beyond in her class with the kids and with us as parents, answering emails at all hours and ensuring our kids learn and are entertained. My son has learned more in one year with her than most 1st and 2nd-grade kids even know. My son is timid and never does anything to get in trouble; he is sensitive and sweet. So when I got a call from Susan about an incident where he had bitten a child, she was in shock and couldn't believe it; she calmed him down, followed procedures, and made him stop crying. However, my husband and I were disappointed and laid down the law; chores were given, and all fun things were taken away. He missed school the first three days of the next week (the incident happened on a Friday). Mrs. H called him and told him that she and all his classmates missed him and he would please come back soon; no one was mad, the incident was forgotten, and Carson was missed. She went above and beyond to make my son feel good enough to return to school; I will never forget that. It just reinforced that she knows his sweet, caring personality and can handle him the way he needs to be to thrive. Every day, I hear 'Mrs. H says Mrs. H taught me..' she can do no wrong in my son's eyes!" said Hundersmarck.
