LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Krisner Smith was nominated by principal, Lisa Heard. 

Mrs. Smith is a true LifeChanger. She constantly thinks of ways to help students and works behind the scenes to ensure her students succeed. Mrs. Smith sacrifices her time to tutor students before and after school. She works with students to make sure that they understand various mathematical concepts. When it's time for students to receive rewards, Mrs. Smith goes above and beyond the call of duty.

"Mrs. Smith inspires me to love and appreciate math each day I visit her class. Even when I try to explain a concept to her students, she graciously says, 'Hold up, Ms. Heard! We were just about to get there, but I need to show them this additional step,'" said Heard.

Each day in Mrs. Smith's class is very different. Many students dislike math, but Mrs. Smith makes math easy. She floats throughout the classroom with her iPad and iPad pen. She conducts small group lessons in her classroom and allows students to rotate assignments while she is reteaching skills to struggling students. Mrs. Smith reviews the data of her students and BCMS. Although Mrs. Smith works with eighth graders, she tutors any student who desires to learn. Mrs. Smith changes the lives of the Bessemer City Middle School students daily.
