Tonya Griglen was nominated by her principal, Lisa Heard.
Mrs. Griglen is a veteran teacher at Bessemer City Middle School. She develops relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Mrs. Griglen serves the student body in ways that other staff members and students might not realize. She organizes students and teachers to do amazing things. Mrs. Griglen teaches her students to own their own learning. She facilitates the lessons and implements the A+ College Ready Curriculum. Mrs. Griglen serves as the chairperson to the student officers club and helps with the student ambassadors. She supports students by attending football, basketball, and academic events. Mrs. Griglen uses her knowledge to support her students each year. This year, Mrs. Griglen led the charge to serve as the liaison between Bessemer City Middle School and the ambassadors. Mrs. Griglen embodies what it means to be a teacher leader.
