Carol Niemczyk was nominated by a student.

"When I started sixth grade, the world was in shambles. Half the world was still in lockdown, and the other half was trying to get out of lockdown," said the student. "In my case, most of the school was determined to return to 'normal' after virtual schooling in the spring of 2020. Everything returned to normal with the caveat of requiring everyone in the building to wear masks. Except my family wasn't. We firmly believed that we were going back too early. Thankfully, the school offered virtual schooling that year. So, I spent a full year of school sitting at home all day on Google Meet. As a result, I didn't develop strong relationships with any of my teachers. I also struggled socially because I spent a year not seeing any of my friends."

"When seventh grade finally came around, the district discontinued optional virtual learning, so I had to return to school in person. Although I knew it was good for me, I was still dreading it," said the student. "Going back into seventh grade, I still knew most of the people I would have class with, but it felt weird to see them after so long. Thankfully, there was one person whom I had seen more recently than my classmates, Mrs. Niemczyk. I was so glad to be in Mrs. Niemcyzk's seventh-grade homeroom. It was one of the few things that made my transition back to school in person possible."

"I still remember one of the first things she said to me in person, which was about how she went from a year seeing me on camera without a mask to seeing me in person with a mask," said the student. "Throughout the rest of the year, our bond continued to grow. I found myself excited for her class, even when I knew we were still learning about colonial America after what felt like months on end. Throughout middle school, I was not very active in the community, with most, if not all, of my time spent in class or at home. However, this changed in eighth grade when Mrs. Niemczyk inspired me to join the stage crew for that year's musical. Seeing her in tears at the end of the last show was one of the most memorable moments throughout middle school, and I will forever cherish the time I spent with her."

Mrs. Niemczyk is a treasure of a human and a gift to have as a teacher and mentor. My eldest struggled socially when we moved to the district in 2020. Carey saw my daughter for the kind and intelligent person she is and was a strong supporter of her. My daughter truly appreciated that she knew someone was in her corner and that support helped her find and make friends. My daughter loved the opportunity to spend time with Carey during the school musicals. I know my child’s story of how Carey Niemcyzk positively impacted her is just one of many. We are blessed to have Carey in our district!

Carey Niemczyk is involved in so much at Merton Intermediate and makes the school a special place. Carey promotes school citizenship in with students as student a senate advisor where she creates authentic opportunities for kids to lead. An example would be Merton's Student Senate Carnival, an annual event enjoyed by many! She is a key leader of the Merton Theater Company and has helped students find their creative niches as performers. The musicals in Merton are fantastic and are core memories for students who participate. If that wasn't a ton besides teaching, Carey Niemczyk is one of two lead teachers who works to make 8th grade graduation a special rite of passage in Merton. Her countless hours and dedication extends far beyond her passion for Social Studies; she makes Merton Intermediate a truly special place to be because she cares beyond... and goes leaps and bounds beyond for students. Carey Niemczyk deserves to be recognized ??. Thank you!

Mrs. Niemcyzk is truly one of a kind. Even outside of the classroom, she's always teaching, encouraging, and uplifting others. She has one of the biggest hearts I know and gives 110% to everything she does. Her passion for education shines through in the way she makes learning fun, exciting, and meaningful. She's constantly finding creative ways to connect with her students, and it's truly inspiring.

Having been a school secretary for half my career, and working with teachers and TEACHERS, Mrs. Niemczyk is a TEACHER! She not only educates them in History and Social Studies, but also, by her example, shows them how a smile, kindness, listening, and love, can change a life. The joy she exudes and guidance she gives when leading students in the school musical each year brings a whole new level of self-esteem into their lives. Something that her students carry with them into their future. I believe Mrs. Niemczyk is well deserving of this award.

Even though my student is still in the Primary School, Mrs. Niemczyk has already made a meaningful impact on him. Through her work with Camp Invention, she’s gone above and beyond to keep him engaged, motivated, and excited to learn—even during the summer! As he’s gotten older, she’s continued to encourage him by inviting him to someday pursue opportunities to grow as a leader, whether as a future Counselor at Camp Invention, a member of Student Senate, or as part of the school musical. As a parent and PTO volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated she is—not just to her students, but to the entire Merton community. She’s always willing to help spread the word about events that benefit students and staff, and she’s genuinely a joy to talk to. It’s clear she truly cares about the kids in our district, whether she teaches them directly or not. Merton wouldn’t be the same without Mrs. Niemczyk. She is absolutely a LifeChanger!

Carey is my teammate and I can't think of a more deserving person for this award! She is tirelessly dedicated to her students - their wins are her wins. Their hurts are her hurts. She is always working to provide students with opportunities and support to help them excel.

Thank you Mrs. Neimczyk for being one of the strong teachers who stood up and stood out during the COVID-19 lockdown. After the lockdown, it would have been easy to continue feeling disconnected during in person interactions. Thank you for choosing connection and warmth as students faced uncertainty

Over her many years of teaching, I have watched Mrs. Niemczyk cheer when her students have made even the slightest accomplishment, listen to her students when they needed someone to talk to, and to make learning fun and engaging so that they expand their knowledge. Once you leave her class you are not ever forgotten. She even sat with a family as they held the hand of one of her former students as she died and not a day goes by she doesn’t think of her and her family. Mrs. Niemczyk works hard to make sure that her students learn and leads them to grow whether they are in the classroom, working on student council, or in the theater. She has worked tirelessly to make their experiences positive and cares about each one of her students.

Mrs. Niemczyk was my science teacher nearly 15 years ago and my history teacher nearly 10 years ago. Time sure does fly, especially since Mrs. Niemczyk still keeps in touch with me and many of the other Merton Student Senate alumni to this day! Now that we’re both adults, I know it would be appropriate to call her Carey, but she will always be Mrs. Niemczyk to me, and I still cherish the many days I spent in her classroom not just learning about the water cycle, and American history, but laughing with her and my other friends at Student Senate meetings. Mrs. Niemczyk has made a huge impact on so many lives! I’m glad to know her not just as a former teacher, but also as a friend.

Mrs Niemczyk What can one say about her, she’s kind, encouraging, dedicated to everyone in her life. We are lucky to have her in ours, not only as our neighbor, but also as our daughter’s Godmother. She deserves the best

I couldn’t think of anyone better for this honor. Carey changes the lives of everyone around her with her kindness and compassion. She would do anything for anyone, always there to help. She is a master at building relationships with her students and takes a true interest in their lives. She is one of the most dedicated people I know and wears her heart on her sleeve. She makes everyone’s day brighter and better. I am proud to call her my colleague and most importantly my friend.

Incredible teacher, she fosters growth and learning but the kids still respect her. She came out of Covid Schooling better on the other side and she uses what she learned. Nobody is more deserving in my eyes.

I first had Mrs. Niemczyk as a teacher in fourth grade. I am now 22 and can confidently say that she is one of the most excellent, caring, stupendous, compassionate, fun, and overall incredible women I have ever had the honor of knowing. I don’t know if she knows this, but I probably wouldn’t have made it through middle school without her support. Genuinely, she changed my life for the better. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this.

I have watched Mrs. Niemczyk work with students for the entirety of my life, not to mention nearly a majority of hers. She has dedicated her life’s work for the betterment of others. She lifts students up, she encourages them to grow outside of their comfort zone while simultaneously creating a safe place for them to fall back on. Mrs. Niemczyk is the very model of what it means to be a fantastic educator, coworker, and friend. Truly there is no person I know who would be a better fit for this award.
