Nadonya Muslim was nominated a student, Gionni Green.
Ms. Muslim helped to change her school culture by always displaying a passion for success. She constantly motivates students by letting them know that they can do anything. She never lets students think that they have done enough, always stressing that we can do more. "Ms. Muslim is one of those administrators who ask, 'Is that the best you could do?' It’s ok but I know you could be number one," Green said.
For the last two years, Ms. Muslim pushed Green and his classmates towards college readiness. "She personally, along with our principal, took us to visit Harris Stowe University in St. Louis on a chartered bus," Green said. "Many administrators would not do that." Ms. Muslim has worked hard to change the culture and climate in her school, daily telling her students that they are are "scholars making dollars." When her students ask about the dollars? She tells them that their grades convert into dollars.
"It has been wonderful having Ms. Muslim as our administrator for three years. She exemplified excellence each day and expresses her desire for us to succeed," Green said. "She always states that 'excuses are tools for incompetence.' There’s no excuse for fighting or letting anyone knock you off your square because that. You are number one!"
Ms. Muslim was nominated for a Steve Harvey neighborhood hoodie award in 2009.

I have had the PLEASURE of working indirectly with Ms. Muslim. I am a teacher at the attached school, Diann Banks-Williamson Educational Center. I have witnessed on many occasions Ms. Muslim directing as well redirecting students into the right path/direction to ensure they are working to become better young people. She speaks with a stern loving voice which the students learn to respect VERY quickly. Ms. Muslim is also a small business owner so the information that she shares on making money comes from first hand experience. She loves what she does so she does what she does with love.

I met and became friends with Nadonya while working at West Side Academy. We immediately clicked because she is such a sweet, loving and compationate person. I would often hear her students and parents say how much they loved her and students saying she's their favorite teacher. Motivator, inventor, mother in time of need, sister, and or friend. Many youth lack that type of engagement socially and for her to be not only a educator but a life coach it takes a blessed spirit called a gift! She has that gift and I can say many not just me are thankful she taught us!!!!
Nadonya Muslim is the most caring and loving person in this world. She is will give her shirt off her back to help anyone. Her and I was teaching together at West Side Academy a few years ago and a parent came to me to say that she had no where to live. I thought to myself "why is she coming to me?" After listening to her story I directed her to Ms. Muslim for assistance. She immediately got on the phone called a few people and got the woman housing. My friend is truly an amazing woman.
Nadonya is an outstanding educator who has been dedicated to teaching students for over two decades. I am hopeful that her commitment to her students will be recognized as one of her many talents that she exhibits on a daily basis.
Ms Muslim, my cousin and administrator has a passion for children and goes way beyond the cause by steering students in a positive direction. She also counsels, mentors and teaches them that "ain't no mountain too high" They tend to listen, probably because of non-fearing approach. All though the halls you will see her talking and directing students to class or where they belong!! You rarely hear any "confrontation". Life Changer fits her perfectly!! Congrats!!

Ms. Muslim is deeply committed to and involved in many facets of the students lives at East English Village Preparatory Academy.
I am especially impressed with her efforts when it comes to college and career readiness. Yearly, she collaborates and supports various Historically Black Colleges and Universities by organizing visits for graduating seniors. Often for many students, college was not on their list for things to do. After being on the yard of various HBCU's, students changed their minds and found a new home within the HBCU's. Because of these efforts, Ms. Muslim is highly regarded by students with respect and gratitude which awards her the honor of being a Life Changing candidate.
Ms. Muslim has an effervescent energy that is hard to match. She puts herself into all that she does for her family, her students and the community in which she works and lives. I personally am indebted to her, as she was one of my son's favorite teachers. She came into my son's life at a time when his view of education was waning. Ms. Muslim's tough love, telling it like it is, no quite spirit was just what my son needed and responded to. Ms. Muslim could do no wrong!!! She prompted her classes to participate in writing contests each year and my son actually won. He still keeps in touch with her to this day. Ms. Muslim is the type of educator that reaches far beyond the classroom. I am honored and feel wholeheartedly that Ms. Nadonya Muslim deserves this honor.
Ms. Muslim has not only been a second mother to me but a wonderful teacher as well. Even though I was never one of her students she treated me more as a child and only wanted to see the best out of me. She's a loving and caring women that teach young girls and boys to strive for success! I met her when I was only in middle school and as I grow now into a grown women at the age of 22 I look back and reflect on the things she taught me and her daughter Starr Ambrosia at young ages up until high school. She is truly a role model!

I have worked with Ms. Nadonya Muslim for the past 18 years. She has been a phenomenal instructor and an awesome mentor. Ms. Muslim does not mind going the extra mile to assure that all students receive the maximum where their education is concerned. She will stay after school and give students the opportunity to either receive tutoring or complete their assignments. She is very active with planning trips for the students as well as making sure they are completing applications for college and preparing them to be world ready. Ms. Muslim was nominated several years for Steve Hardy's Neighborhood Hoodie Award where she won 2 times.

During the time that I have known Nadonya Muslim she has always been helpful and serviced everyone with a smile. She has an outgoing personality, is hard working, and she is fully committed to her job, and the students that she interacts with on a daily basis. I became. Friends with Ms. Muslim more than 18 years ago, at that time she was volunteering as a cheer director one of the meany hats she has worn over the years. She worked six days week with the girls to make sure they were getting the best experience that they could from the program those children are now adults and she helped to forever change their lives

Ms.Muslim was my teacher 10 years ago at Southeastern High School, and even then, she pushed her students to do better. She was a motivator, and very supportive of each of her students, even the "knuckleheads". Up until now she is still one of my favorite teachers ad I'm not surprised she was nominated for this award.
