Mrs. Abney is the perfect example of what every teacher should aspire to be. The loving and nurturing environment that she fosters is second to none. She is always encouraging and supporting her students and her coworkers, and she is quick with a smile and a "good morning". On many occasions I have witnessed her interaction with her students in the hall and in the lunchroom. Even when disciplining a student, she is kind and encouraging.......using every opportunity as an instructional moment. It's a joy to watch her students "blossom" throughout the year under her instruction. I can think of no better recipient of the award "Life Changer of the Year".

Ms. Ginger has been such a special part of Skylar’s kindergarten year. Skylar has always loved learning, and Ms. Ginger nurtured that excitement in such a thoughtful and encouraging way. She made sure Skylar stayed engaged and curious, gently challenging her while also helping her grow in so many other important ways. Ms. Ginger has truly been a life-changing teacher for my son, Kyson. Since being in her kindergarten class, his reading abilities have grown tremendously, and his DIBELS scores have shown clear, measurable improvement. Most importantly, she has helped build his confidence as a reader and as a student overall. Kyson went from struggling with reading to feeling proud of his progress and excited to learn. Through Ms. Ginger’s patience, encouragement, and intentional instruction, she created a safe and supportive learning environment where he felt confident enough to try, make mistakes, and grow. Ms. Ginger consistently goes above and beyond for her students, ensuring that each child feels seen, supported, and capable of success. The impact she has had on Kyson extends far beyond academics and will stay with him throughout his educational journey. I am deeply grateful for the positive difference she has made in my child’s life.

Words can't even explain how much of a blessing this wonderful teacher is! But I'm sure her class status says it all. My son came into Crawford in August, he was not where he needed to be with the dibels testing. By December, my child had exceeded his level on dibels and as of today he completes his class work as one of the top 5 in the class! We as a community is beyond blessed to have Ms Ginger Abney as a part of Crawford Elementary. There isn't anyone more qualified and deserving of the life changer of the year award! She's phenomenal!

Jimmitriv Roberson Posted 5 months ago

Miss Ginger is far more than a teacher; she is a mentor, role model, and a constant source of encouragement for her students and everyone around her. She truly sees each child’s potential and helps them believe in themselves, creating a classroom where students are safe, supported, and motivated to grow. The impact of her work is clearly reflected in your students’ success. Under her guidance, many of her students have achieved and surpassed the mid-year benchmark, and others have already reached the end-of-year benchmark! Just as importantly, her students grow in confidence, becoming more outgoing, engaged, and eager to learn. Because of the strong foundation Miss Ginger provides, they move on to first grade well-prepared, confident, and already performing on grade level. Moreover, her excellence extends beyond the classroom into her family, friendships, and community, where she leads with compassion, integrity, and purpose! She consistently gives her best and inspires others to do the same. Miss Ginger’s dedication, heart, and lasting impact truly define what it means to be a Life Changer, and this recognition is well deserved!

I am honored to share a few words about this incredible educator and the impact she has had on my son, Joyner. Since being in her class, I have watched Joyner grow academically, emotionally, and personally in ways that have truly amazed me. His grades and test scores have improved tremendously, but even more than that, his confidence and excitement about learning have grown. He comes home eager to talk about what he’s learned, and that speaks volumes about the environment she creates in her classroom. She doesn’t just teach lessons from a book — she reaches her students, understands them, and brings out the best in them. It is clear that she genuinely cares for each child and is deeply invested in their success. Joyner feels supported, encouraged, and motivated every single day. Her dedication, patience, and passion for teaching have made a lasting impact not only on Joyner but on our entire family. We are beyond grateful for the positive difference she has made in his life and in the lives of so many students. She is truly deserving of this recognition.

Initially, my first interaction with Ms. Abney was in the capacity of a student/teacher. Early on, it was evident that education was a top priority for Ms. Abney. She was an exemplary student that willingly volunteered to peer tutor her classmates in mathematics. After earning her bachelor’s degree, the district was fortunate to hire Ms. Abney as an elementary teacher at the school she previously attended. When asked to complete the LDOE requirements for a content leader and a mentor teacher, she readily accepted the challenge. In addition, Ms. Abney eagerly seeks trainings and professional developments to increase her knowledge base for the purpose of increasing student productivity and performance. Ms. Abney’s effectiveness as a leader and mentor is evidenced by her selection as a former state semifinalist for Louisiana Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Throughout this month, I will be surprising random members of our faculty and staff with “sprinkles of kindness”. Today, I allowed my Student of the Month to present the first winner with her gift. It’s a blessing to be a blessing to others, and it truly makes my heart happy. People tend to get overwhelmed and fatigued, so I thought this would be a great way to share some kindness and cheer.

Leslie Allen, Occupational Therapist Posted 5 months ago

Ms. Abney’s dedication to her students does not go unnoticed. Here are a few things I have consistently observed in the 7 years I have worked along side Ms. Abney. First, Ms. Abney is creative! While creativity is not a prerequisite for teaching, it certainly helps with student engagement and fosters a fun and exciting learning environment. I think this is especially critical in kindergarten and lower elementary. Second, Ms. Abney consistently sees positive gains in her students performance data. The results speak for themselves! Third, and perhaps most related to my own role in the education setting, Ms. Abney is very good at identifying students who need extra support. You see, that is more work for a teacher. It requires data collection, report formulation, completed screeners, and SBLC meetings. The truth is, not every teacher out there will do that extra work, but Ms. Abney will. My job is to screen, evaluate, and intervene in cases where Occupational Therapy is warranted to assist a student in reaching their maximum potential. I simply could not do that without teachers like Ms. Abney. And lastly, Ms. Abney speaks to me. She always has a friendly wave and a smile, projecting not only a friendly approachable attitude to her students, but also to faculty. I am thankful for all of these things, and I am thankful to work with Ms. Abney!!

Ms.Ginger exemplifies professionalism, compassion, leadership and ethical standards. She has a heart to teach and give. Being in education and a teacher during the pandemic was unpredictable and stressful at times due to the different models of teaching that were utilized. Our school utilized both the hybrid and virtual models. Ms. Ginger provided professional development to all the teachers on how to create a virtual classroom. She was also so discerning and caring toward those of us that did not catch on as readily as others. Ms. Ginger took it upon herself to come to the classrooms of those she noticed needed more support and with kindness and patience worked with us individually. Ms. Ginger’s organization and creativity promoted an atmosphere conducive to learning along with optimal engagement. Her calm demeanor during a time of stress and unpredictability in education was life changing for students, parents, colleagues and administrators. I am confident that whatever obstacles, challenges or changes in education emerge in the future, she has the skills, personality and knowledge to continue to be an asset in whatever role she serves. She exceeds expectations. She is humble and is generous in sharing her knowledge and expertise. Ms. Ginger is truly a life changer.

Accomplishments: Teacher of the Month (She got this more than once.), 2021-2022 Crawford Elementary Teacher of the Year, 2021-2022 Bienville Parish Teacher of the Year, 2021-2022 Louisiana Teacher of the Year Semifinalist, Mentor Teacher, 3rd Year Lead/Master Teacher, K-2nd Content Leader, Louisiana Educator Rubric Observer, 3rd Year Parent and Family Liaison, 3rd Year Instructional Leadership Team Member, After School Tutor, Kindergarten Interventionist, Student Council Committee Member, Master Teacher. And I have to mention the fact that when everyone returned to school during the pandemic, that Ginger taught students virtually and in person. She taught not only one school virtually but 2 others in the district as well. When the pandemic started, she went into proactive mode and started creating a virtual Google Classroom. It was sooooo nice. She even orchestrated a Professional Development at the school showing others how to create their own. That’s amazing! I am in awe of my granddaughter, and I’m so proud of her!!!

Because Ginger is a citizen of God’s Kingdom, she created an idea where not only her class but all of the kindergarten classes collected cans to donate to a children’s home. They donated over 500 canned goods during the holiday season, and she discussed the importance of giving to and caring for others. She displays her leadership by choreographing coronations on the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Ms. Abney has been choreographing coronations for over a decade. Dancing is a passion of hers and when Ms. Abney gets to intertwine both of her passions, students and dance, it brings her fulfillment and joy. Ethical standards is not something Ms. Abney takes lightly. To instill and prioritize the children’s safety, well-being, and dignity, while focusing on providing a nurturing environment is pertinent to Ms. Abney. Respecting individual differences, and encouraging active, voluntary participation in the classroom is something she incorporates into the curriculum on a daily basis. Key principles include confidentiality, non-discrimination, and acting in the best interests of the child. These standards ensure children are treated with respect, protected from harm, and supported in their development. Being a life changer is not what Ginger Abney is obtaining to be, it’s who she is.

Ms. Ginger has had an incredible impact on my granddaughter's kindergarten experience. I often joke with her saying, "I'm going to start a YouTube channel called MS GINGER SAYS"....Kenli has not only excelled academically but her social skills have also been boosted. Ms. Ginger's class gives a warm vibe and each time I've visited the class all students were engaged.

Sally C. Posted 6 months ago

I observed Ms. Ginger today while I was assisting a student, and she was absolutely FANTASTIC! I was so engaged in the lesson, and guess what… ALL of the students were as well. She sings with them and dances with them and really gets them involved. They also understand the curriculum. She allowed a couple of the students to be the “teacher” and they were able to explain what to do. She’s working on composing and decomposing in math, and she connected all of the standards and her success criteria. Ms. Ginger is truly a fantastic teacher and a LIFE CHANGER for sure!!!! Congratulations Ms. Ginger! Keep going and glowing!!!

One of the most beautiful examples of Ginger’s heart is the trip she organized to the local nursing home. Leading those young students as they sang to the elderly and passed out handmade Christmas cards was a masterclass in empathy. She didn't just provide a holiday activity; she bridged a gap between generations and brought pure joy to the elderly in her community. Her ability to inspire kindness in her students is just one of the many things that makes her a true life changer. Ginger’s dedication extends far beyond the four walls of her classroom; she is actively teaching our children the value of service. I was so moved by her leadership in coordinating the Kindergarten Canned Food Drive for the local children’s home. By involving her 'babies' in such a meaningful project, she is molding them into compassionate citizens who understand the importance of giving back to those in need. She is a true Life Changer for the entire community. I remember working alongside Ginger and being in awe of how she handled every challenge with grace and encouragement. She was and has always been my biggest cheerleader, and that same supportive spirit is why her students are so successful. She is the definition of a 'Life Changer' because she invests in the whole child. Ginger's passion for teaching is genuinely contagious; you can see it ignite a real, lasting love of learning in her students every single day. I saw this during our time teaching together—she has a unique way of making every child feel capable of greatness. Her enthusiasm transforms the classroom into a launchpad for success, and I am still inspired by the energy she brings to education. She is a true Life Changer for the entire community. I have witnessed Ginger’s faith in action during my family's most frightening moments, specifically when my father was in the hospital and his recovery was incredibly uncertain. Ginger didn't just offer platitudes; she stayed in the trenches with me, praying for my father’s life and holding onto hope when I felt I had none left. My father ended up having a truly remarkable recovery, and I know that her prayers and unwavering support were a massive part of our family's strength during that time. An educator with this kind of integrity, faith, and heart is a rare and precious gift. It is such a profound blessing to have a friend like Ginger who will truly be there for you when the world feels like it is falling apart. She has a unique way of grounding those around her, always pointing back to faith and the Lord as the source of peace. Whether she is coordinating a charity drive or praying with a friend in crisis, her life is a consistent reflection of her values. She has changed my life by being my sister-friend and my prayer warrior. Ginger hasn't just impacted her students; she has profoundly changed my life as well. As a wonderful friend and a former colleague, she was one of my biggest inspirations for pushing myself to become the best teacher I could be. Her passion is contagious, and her high standards for instruction, coupled with her deep love for her students, served as my daily inspiration. I am the educator I am today because I had the privilege of watching her lead by example. It is rare to find a friend who doubles as a professional role model, but Ginger is exactly that for me. She is a wonderful friend who has supported me through every season, but she is also the person who inspired me to find my own voice in the classroom. Having worked alongside her years ago, I saw firsthand how she balances rigorous academics with deep care for her 'babies.' She is truly my sister and my inspiration. As an activity director at the nursing home, it’s hard sometimes trying to keep my residents entertained and happy. But Ms. Ginger is always there to help by coordinating programs for my residents. She does this at least two times a year. This year was no different. For Christmas she planned and organized a service learning project where all of the kindergarteners made cards for the residents, passed them out, greeted them, and sung carols to them. Her willingness is unmatched, her heart is one of a kind. She’s not only a WONDERFUL teacher but a GREAT person. I believe she is the most deserving person for this award HANDS DOWN! I would love to take a moment to publicly recognize Ms. Ginger for the incredible work she does with her students. Not only is she an amazing educator, but she truly pours into our children academically and emotionally. Ms. Ginger organized a kindergarten initiative that allowed the students to donate canned goods to a local children’s home, teaching them the importance of giving and serving others. She also coordinated a visit to a local nursing home where the children spent time with the elderly, fostering compassion, respect, and love across generations. These experiences meant so much to our family and showed that she teaches far beyond the classroom. Academically, the growth has been nothing short of amazing. At the start of the school year, Heaven scored a 326 on her DIBELS test, exceeding the benchmark of 306. By December, she scored a 405, surpassing the benchmark of 371—showing continued growth and excellence thanks to Ms. Ginger’s teaching methods. The study packets she creates and sends home help tremendously and truly make a difference. I am beyond grateful for Ms. Ginger and all that she does. I am claiming this victory in the name of Jesus, and I thank God for placing such a dedicated, loving teacher in our child’s life. If anyone deserves the honor of being “Life Changer of the Year”, it’s definitely Ms. Ginger Abney!!

Ginger Abney is an exceptional mentor and role model who pours into children far beyond the classroom and as a praise dance instructor. As my daughters Justiss and Jordyn’s praise dance instructor, she consistently invests her time, resources, and love into the lives of her students. From opening her home to host a Christmas pajama party at her own expense, to organizing nursing home visits that teach the girls compassion and respect for the elderly, Ms. Abney leads by example. She encourages, uplifts, and guides each child with genuine care, making every girl feel seen and valued. Her selflessness, leadership, and commitment to shaping not only skilled dancers but well-rounded young ladies truly set her apart.

Meri James Posted 6 months ago

Thank you for being a great dance teacher! I pray that you get the opportunity to teach other girls (dance) and give them the joy you give to us!!

Mili James Posted 6 months ago

You are the best dance teacher! Everyone in this world would love for you to teach them and lead them in dancing! Thank you!!

Ginger Abney Posted 6 months ago

My students grew tremendously on DIBELS. At the beginning of the year, only a few students achieved the benchmark. We’ve been working diligently in my classroom, and I’ve been collaborating with my students’ parents/guardians by providing constant updates about progress and areas of need. I am so grateful that 15 of my students achieved the MOY Benchmark; moreover, 13 of those students scored “Well Above” by reaching the EOY benchmark of 420. ALL of my students grew, though. WOW. God is so good, and I’m so grateful. I celebrated all of my students by buying them gifts and throwing them a party. I also awarded the Top 5 and Top 10 students. I love doing these things for them because it shows them that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. It shows them that I care about celebrating them. It shows them that they are loved. They truly appreciate it, and I love serving my kindergarten babies.

I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing this articulate, amazing, caring, and passionate young lady for about eight years now. She’s been nothing short of amazing. I’ve watched her teaching abilities grow every year. So when the opportunity presented itself for her to teach another one of my kids, I jumped at the opportunity… and she delivered. My daughter not only scored high on her Diebels, she exceeded the expectations level. I know it couldn’t have happened without her being the great teacher and “life changer” that she is. If there’s anyone who deserves to be life changer of the year…it’s her. She has truly blessed so many kids and adults with her God given talent and my kids are truly blessed to have been a part of it. Life changer of the year…Ms. Ginger Abney

I am so grateful to see the fruit from everything I’ve been teaching. The students are doing so very well, and it’s a major blessing. I know their scores will only improve. They’re going to get even higher scores on the End of Year Assessment.

Proud mama moment! I just want to take a moment to shout out my daughter’s AMAZING teacher! From August to December, her academic growth has been incredible. Her beginning-of-year DIBELS score was 401, and by December she soared to 441; well beyond the benchmark goal of 371. She didn’t just meet the goal… she hit that benchmark and kept on going! This growth is a direct reflection of Ms. Gingers’ dedication and high expectations. She is a teacher who truly pours into her students. Thank you for believing in Marli, pushing her, and helping her shine. When teachers do the work, the results speak for themselves!! Grateful. Thankful. So proud.

Celeste Holland Posted 6 months ago

I would like to thank Ms. Ginger for all of her hard work towards the growth I’ve seen from my son. His DIABLES score for December is almost at the April Benchmark along with several other students. I appreciate her patience, consistency and support when it comes to learning in her classroom!

Ginger has not only transcended lives in the classroom, but at church, in the community, and my life as well. Her eccentric personality is contagious as soon as she walks in any room. Always upbeat, positive, and ready to take on the full responsibility of an educator. I am so proud to call Ginger Abney my girlfriend. Not for just how she treats me, but how delicately she handles the kids in the classroom. After work, she’s eager to tell me the positive impact she’s making in increasing test scores and it brings a smile to my face that she’s changing the world one child at a time. Ginger Abney is the epitome of what it means to be a life changer.

Ginger Abney Posted 7 months ago

It’s almost 3:00 a.m. in Louisiana. I cannot sleep, so I’m up thinking about fun and creative things I can do for my kindergarten babies for Christmas/December. I LOVE making learning fun, engaging, and exciting for them. It’s important that they learn and grow, but it’s equally important that I make learning and growing captivating. The more students have fun, the more they learn. I always incorporate something cool in my lessons. I constantly research and create new ways to not only grab their attention but also to keep it. It truly helps them to retain the information from the curriculum. There are “Best Practices” in education that are fundamental and significant, and there are also some “best practices” in my own individual classroom that always yield success.

Ginger Abney Posted 8 months ago

In our first unit of science, we talked about the needs of living things. I also told my students about the importance of giving to others and loving everyone. For Thanksgiving, I wanted Crawford’s Kindergarten classes to donate cans to a local Children’s Home. I organized a plan, informed the principal, and got the other two classes involved. Yesterday, our kindergarten classes donated OVER 500 canned goods to the Children’s Home. I’m so very grateful that my dream became a reality. I wanted all of our kinder-students to understand the importance of philanthropy, service, kindness, and GIVING! We made connections to what we’ve been learning about in reading, math, social studies, and science. They truly enjoyed giving to the youth. I thank God for placing the idea in my heart for this service learning opportunity and for blessing it to be so successful!

Ginger Abney Posted 8 months ago

I am reflecting on the year we returned to school after the pandemic occurred. At that time, we had 3 kindergarten teachers; however, I was the most technologically savvy. I was asked to teach kindergarten virtually for the students whose parents wanted them to stay home. I not only virtually taught Crawford’s students, though. I taught TWO other schools in the district virtually. There was no extra pay or anything for that, but I took on the task with diligence and dedication because I love to teach. I purchased materials for ALL of the students (in all three schools) with my own money. After beginning that venture, I was asked to simultaneously teach the hybrid students. I was teaching the virtual students while teaching students in my classroom… AT THE SAME TIME. It was quite exhausting, and it was even challenging at times. I thank God for blessing it to be successful, though. He really blessed me - just as He always does. I’m grateful for that opportunity because it’s a part of my journey as an educator.

I love being a mentor teacher. I love helping and serving not only the students but also the faculty. It provides an opportunity for me to help others. “How can I help?” That is the question my pastor says we should always pose to ourselves. I’m always looking for ways to serve. It’s a blessing to give back and to help teachers in any capacity. I do not know it all. I haven’t learned it all. I am still learning every day, but I share what I do know with others constantly. I want our teachers to be great so that our students can be even greater!

It has been a pleasure working with Ms. Ginger Abney at Bienville Parish School Board. For the past three years, she has served as the Parent and Family Engagement Liaison at Crawford Elementary School, acting as a bridge between the school, families, and the community. Ms. Abney has been a driving force behind family nights and engagement events that inspire parents to take an active role in their child’s learning. Her work has set a high standard. I often use her approach as a model when training new and current Parent and Family Engagement Liaisons. During professional development sessions, Ms. Abney’s eagerness to learn and absorb information that benefits her students is truly remarkable. She is always engaged, motivated, and dedicated to going above and beyond for her students. She loves them and they love her in return. Ms. Abney’s leadership, professionalism, and dedication make her an outstanding candidate for the Life Changer of the Year Award.

Alycia Hodges Posted 8 months ago

This is truly a nomination well deserved. I have known Ginger for about 5 years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support her. Inside and outside the classroom, she motivates others, spreading love and light in her work and personal life. When I think of her love for teaching, especially at a time where many teachers are leaving the profession, her passion and dedication are an inspiration to us all. Although she doesn’t need an award to prove that she is a life changer because her work speaks for itself, I know that receiving this honor would be a testament to a job well done, motivation to keep making a positive impact on the lives of others, and a ripple effect that causes her students and community to believe that they can be life changers as well.

I have known Ms. Abney beginning with her college years through her faithful service teaching the children and youth at church in the dance ministry. She teaches wherever she goes whether it’s in a school, church or community setting. I later had the opportunity to observe her heart for teaching as a co-worker in a school setting. She treated students, parents, administrators and co-workers with respect and respect. She always exhibited a pleasant and helpful spirit. She served with a smile and always offered to lend a helping with a spirit of humility. Her lessons were well-paced laced with fun and enthusiasm. Ms. Abney made students feel special by providing treat bags and welcoming decorations in her classroom for each holiday. Yesterday, I got a new student which brought my total to 21 kindergarteners. I did not find out I was getting a new student until 7:45 a.m. yesterday. Rather than complaining about it, I welcomed him into my classroom and prepared a place for him. We don’t have constant paraprofessionals in Kindergarten, so it gets a little overwhelming at times. I am just so thankful, though, that I do have God constantly. He always helps me and sees me through. It is an honor to teach ALL of my kinder-babies. It is an honor to sow into their lives. 21 sweet babies. 21 lovely smiles. 21 beautiful brains. 21 precious faces. 21 little humans to love.

I have witnessed the extraordinary level of care, creativity and excellence she brings to her students. She has created a warm and nurturing environment where her students are encouraged to do their very best. Ginger will take all opportunities to "brag" on each of her students accomplishments to other adults in the presence of those children. A great self-esteem booster for those little ones. I'm always impressed with the knowledge, clearly above what is expected for the grade level, that her students will share with me concerning a book that I'm reading to them. Ginger has been a faithful patron of the Bienville Parish Library for many years. She is well thought of and admired among library staff. Her enthusiasm for books and reading extend to her young students by encouraging thoughtful discussion and connecting stories to broader lessons - We love that here!! Ginger Abney embodies the best qualities of a teacher - compassion, dedication, an unshakeable belief in her student's potential, and to lay the groundwork for success in their remaining years of schooling and beyond. I'm honored to recommend her for this lovely award. Most sincerely, Melissa Permenter, Children's Services Coordinator Bienville Parish Library

“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.” ?? Ephesians? ?6?:?7?-?8? ?(NIV??) This is one of my favorite scriptures as an educator. Even though it gets challenging at times when I don't feel recognized, valued, or appreciated, I remember who I'm truly serving. I remember for whom I am working. God is so faithful, and I KNOW that He sees the good in doing for my students, their families, my coworkers, and my community. It is an honor to serve, and I do not take it lightly. I work tirelessly and wholeheartedly to be the very best teacher I can be. I give my all each and every day. I go above and beyond in every aspect. God blessed me with a purpose, and a part of my purpose is to teach. It's not only my purpose but also my passion. I have been ridiculed and called "extra" because of the zeal I have. I realized... I am extra. I am extra devoted, extra passionate, extra caring, extra loving, and extra creative. I love what I do, and I am so thankful for this opportunity.

Frenecia Faison Posted 10 months ago

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Ginger for over 20 years, and she has always been exactly who she presents herself to be and that’s genuine, consistent, and deeply compassionate. Her personality is truly one of a kind. Ginger is a naturally nurturing person, dedicated to her craft, and passionate about everything she does. Her leadership qualities have always stood out, and her creativity and attentiveness shine through in every aspect of her life. What sets Ginger apart is her heart. She treats every child she encounters with the same love and care as if they were her own. I’ll never forget the story of one of her students who made a mistake at home but confidently told their parent, “Ms. Ginger says it’s okay to make mistakes, that’s why pencils have erasers.” That message is powerful, especially for a young child, because it plants the seed that mistakes are part of life, and with each one comes the opportunity to learn, grow, and begin again. Ginger is truly an amazing person who pours her heart into everything she does. She absolutely deserves this opportunity, and I can say without hesitation that knowing her is an honor. If you’ve ever had the chance to meet her, then you know, once you know Ginger, you can’t help but to love her.

Her classroom is a place where students feel seen, heard, and empowered. Ginger Abney Posted 10 months ago

Another reason I fully believe that I deserve this award is because of how I spread positivity and kindness. I strive to do this not only with the students but also with the faculty. I post and share words of encouragement around the campus, on Group Me, and via social media. It’s important to me to be the light that God told His children to be. I absolutely love inspiring and encouraging others. ““You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” ??Matthew? ?5?:?14?-?16? ?(NLT??)

This is my fourth year being a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, and I am also Master/Lead Teacher for the school. I was asked by my principal and instructional coach to allow other teachers in the parish to observe me while teaching. Because I value helping not only students but also teachers reach their full potential, this has been a remarkable experience. Being a leader is very significant to me as it relates to being an educator. Great leaders SERVE others, and I love serving and helping others. I immediately agreed when they asked me because it’s an opportunity to share my light with others in my district. That’s why I would love to be blessed with this major accomplishment. I would be able to help others not only in my district but also around the world. God has blessed me with a gift, and I want to (I need to) share it with the world. I want to inspire, encourage, uplift, and empower teachers around the nation.

In the world of education, there are teachers who simply teach and then there are those who inspire, uplift, and transform the lives of everyone they encounter. Ginger Abney is one such educator, a remarkable Kindergarten teacher whose dedication, warmth, and deep commitment to her students set her apart as a true life changer. I first met Ginger the summer before I began teaching at CES, during one of our mandated training sessions. At the time, I did not yet know her personally, but she stood out among the crowd with her depth of knowledge, insightful responses, and willingness to offer thoughtful suggestions. It was clear that she was an educator who not only understood her craft but also possessed a natural ability to lead and support those around her. Upon my first day as a teacher at CES, Ginger was one of the first to welcome me with open arms. She did more than offer kind words she went above and beyond by preparing a teacher basket filled with essential items for my classroom, accompanied by a heartfelt note of encouragement. Her thoughtfulness and generosity made an immediate impact, offering reassurance and setting the tone for a workplace where collaboration, support, and kindness flourish. Throughout this year, as a team member of SBLC, I have had the privilege of witnessing Ginger’s extraordinary talent firsthand. She is not just a teacher, she is an advocate, a mentor, and a champion for her students. Ginger works tirelessly to ensure that every child in her classroom receives the best education possible. She understands that teaching is more than delivering lessons; it is about shaping young minds, fostering confidence, and providing opportunities that unlock a child’s full potential. Her ability to connect with students and colleagues alike is a gift. She offers wisdom, encouragement, and a steadfast commitment to excellence, always willing to lend a helping hand or share innovative ideas to improve learning experiences. Ginger’s passion for education and her dedication to student success make her more than deserving of the Life Changer of the Year nomination. Educators like Ginger Abney remind us that teaching is one of the most powerful professions in the world. Her devotion, compassionate heart, and drive to make a difference are what truly define her. She does not just teach she changes lives, and for that, we celebrate and honor her.

This year for Earth Day, I planned a kindergarten service learning project. We learned about taking care of our planet in Amplify Knowledge, so it was a perfect opportunity for us to put what we learned to action. All of the kindergarten students and teachers cleaned up litter outside. We went to the playgrounds, the fields, the sidewalks, everywhere. We even discussed which items could be reused or recycled. The students and teachers really enjoyed this initiative, and it made a valuable connection to what we’d been learning. We even contributed to the school’s beauty. It was very successful.

Due to these medical conditions we were told that he will always have a trouble meeting his milestones and he would have trouble learning and retaining information. Well Ms. Ginger took the time to actually explain the materials that she was teaching to him. She developed a form of communication that he would understand and she had him prepared for education after he left her class. She worked with him and myself so that we could get him ahead and to this day he still thrives. Her foundation that she instilled still plays a vital role in my son’s life today.

I served in the classroom for 2 years with Ms. Ginger (as the students call her) as a Special Education Inclusion teacher. I observed her teach from her heart. She is a gifted teacher who teaches with love as demonstrated by her preparation for each day and the creative ways she engaged her students. She encouraged every student and differentiated her lessons based on the needs in her classroom. I watched as each holiday she spent her own money making handmade baskets and bags for each of her students making them feel valued and special. She welcomed her students each morning with a smile and energy and enthusiasm. She always acknowledged their responses no matter how outlandish making them feel seen and encouraged them to participate. As an inclusion teacher I always felt welcomed and included in her classroom. She always had everything prepared that I needed to address with my students and she always kept me informed of things that had transpired when I wasn’t in the classroom. I observed how my students as well as all the students improve their scores and how they looked forward to coming to school each day. Her classroom was always clean, organized, smelled great and was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I also saw how she took an interest in her community and students by helping others during the summer by tutoring that needed extra help and helping to organize Homecoming week for her high school. I observed how she helped older teachers and colleagues that struggled with technology and by graciously taking the lead with newsletters, etc. She also made things fun for colleagues by teaching us dance moves to end the school year. Ms. Ginger Abney is truly a LifeChanger and gift to the education community.

I do this so that the students know that their hard work is appreciated. I do this to celebrate and incentivize them. I don’t only care about them academically but also emotionally. Their overall wellbeing is significant to me. I go above and beyond in every aspect. I love them, and I want them to KNOW that. I also want their parents to know it and see it. I also establish a positive rapport with the parents each year because they are an imperative part of my classroom. I value their input, and I encourage their participation. They matter just as much as the students do. I know I’m making an impact, and it is such a blessing to do so.

Years later, I continued to enjoy getting to know Ginger more deeply as we became peers, working side-be-side and collaborating with each other as teachers. I have the greatest respect for Ginger. Ginger has grown into a beautiful young woman, both inside and out. She is always professional and prepared each and every day. In addition, the moral character that she exhibits is a great beacon without being haughty. She leads by example. It’s Ginger Abney. I am so excited to be a nominee. I just wanted to share ONE of my favorite memories as a teacher. One year, I had a student whose family was going through a tough time. I reached out to some different people and members of the community. We gathered some items for her and her family. We even had toys for her for Christmas. Her family was so touched, and it really made my heart smile to be a blessing to them!!! I’m really glad I did that because she was, unfortunately, not with us for the entire school year. Her family moved away. It really saddened me, but I am grateful for the time and moments I had with her. I made an impact in not only her life but also her family’s. Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much care.

Ginger is the definition of a life changer. As a kindergarten teacher, she pours her heart into nurturing young minds with love, structure, and purpose. Her students don’t just learn — they thrive as little humans! Beyond the classroom, Ginger leads with excellence — supporting families, mentoring fellow educators, and choreographing school coronations that uplift and inspire. Her impact is felt in every hallway, every classroom, and every heart she touches. Ginger is living proof of what it means to teach with purpose and serve with love, and I’m endlessly inspired by her commitment to shaping bright, confident, and capable young minds. She is most deserving of this honor and many more.

If anyone deserves the title Life Changer of the Year, it’s Ginger Abney — a woman who doesn’t just do the work, she embodies purpose, passion, and power. She is a divine example of what it means to walk boldly in your calling, serve others selflessly, and let God lead every step. This year alone, Ginger has worn more hats than most wear in a lifetime — and she wore them all with grace, excellence, and heart. By day, Ginger is a phenomenal kindergarten teacher who pours her whole soul into her kinder babies. She doesn’t just teach — she nurtures, uplifts, and challenges her students to grow. Her classroom is a space of love, structure, creativity, and high expectations. She meets each child where they are and leads them to where they never knew they could go. And the results speak for themselves — 10 out of 12 of her students scored HIGH on their DIBELS parish/state assessments. That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident — it’s the result of tireless dedication, late nights, prayer, and a heart full of purpose. In addition to her classroom duties, Ginger serves as the Parent and Family Liaison, bridging the gap between school and home. She meets families with compassion, understanding, and wisdom, making sure every parent feels heard, supported, and involved in their child’s journey. She’s a trusted advocate and a source of strength for families who need a safe space and a guiding hand. And let’s talk about her work as the Choreographer for Arcadia High School’s Coronation — a role she has held for an incredible 13 years! Year after year, Ginger brings magic to the stage. She doesn’t just teach students how to move — she builds their confidence, encourages self-expression, and helps them shine in front of their community. Her creativity, precision, and vision have made Coronation a cherished tradition, and her impact goes far beyond the dance floor. Ginger has also been nominated for Life Changer of the Year — and I can’t think of a more deserving person. Her life is her ministry. Her work is her worship. She is the definition of a servant leader, showing up with excellence, humility, and a whole lot of faith. On a personal level, Ginger is my daily reminder of what it looks like to live in alignment with God’s plan. Her discipline, strength, and grace inspire me to be better, dream bigger, and lead with love. I’m beyond proud of you, Ginger. You truly change lives — and I’m blessed to witness the light you carry. Let’s rally behind her and help her bring home this well-earned honor! #LCOY #LifeChangerOfTheYear #PurposeInAction #ProudFriend #GodGetsTheGlory

There are educators, and then there are those rare, remarkable souls who teach not just with their minds, but with their hearts. Ginger is one of those teachers. She goes far beyond the lesson plans and classroom walls—investing in the lives of her students with unwavering compassion, quiet strength, and endless generosity. Ginger’s commitment is not confined to a schedule; it flows into the moments where a kind word, a listening ear, or a gentle encouragement can change the course of a young life. She believes in her students even before they believe in themselves, and in doing so, she leaves an imprint that lasts far beyond the school years. Her legacy is not just in the knowledge she imparts, but in the love she gives freely, and the hope she inspires in every life she touches. Ginger is definitely a gift! ????

Miss Ginger has been nothing but spectacular this year with helping my child excell. For instance my son started the year with a score of 305 on his parish test (the dibels) and by the end of the year he excelled with a 485 making him top 5 twice, once in the middle of year and at the end of the year. She put my nerves to ease about how well my son would fit in since this was his first year in public school and I couldn’t ask for a better teacher to ease my son into his first year of school. Ms. Abney is the best teacher any child could ask for i wish she could be my child’s teacher throughout the following school years. I have seen so much growth from the beginning of the school year to now and im forever grateful.

Good morning! This young lady has been a true blessing to CES and the Arcadia community! She is a professional each and every day and will go above and beyond to assist all our students. She always came to me as principal with different ideas to better our school and community. She is the Parental Involvement Coordinator for our school and keeps our parents engaged with various activities. She has truly changed the trajectory of some students in her quest for excellence in education!

I have known Ginger most of her life and watched her growth as a teacher. She is very dedicated and loves teaching. She loves her students and it shows in the creative ways she utilizes in her teaching techniques. I often share with others some of her efforts. I so proud of the young lady, and teacher, she has become.
