Music that Describes Tamara

Tamara Mills was nominated by her colleague, Raul Platas.

"Ms. Mills is caring, admirable, and dependable. She brings many years of experience in nursing to my life skills classroom," said Platas.

She assists students in all aspects of their learning, from academics to life skills and hygiene. She brings a caring, nurturing spirit that fosters student trust. She works with students in ways that lead to tangible results and betterment in their lives, always providing dignity and respect to this vulnerable population. Her efforts are not only evident in the classroom but also at students' homes.

"We had a particularly challenging day a few weeks back, where behavioral event after behavioral event took place. Ms. Mills took the lead with her kind and nurturing demeanor, de-escalated the room, and brought us back to our productive tasks. Although she is a classroom assistant, I often feel that I am working with an experienced teacher. She has helped in keeping the room afloat throughout the year," said Platas.

Tamara is such a deserving person to be designed a Lifechanger! I met her when she was a caregiver to my elderly mother in assisted living care. She would sit and talked with my mother as well as other residents. She had a keen interest in their well-being and really loved on them. She has a kind, tranquil spirit that people want to be close to. I will always be thankful to her for all this in the latter years of my mother's life. We actually still correspond with each other even though Mom has passed. Tamara is a top notch, genuine, caring person and she is already a winner in my book. Respectfully, I submit that she should win Lifechanger of the Year!

There are people who hold families together, who give endlessly without asking for anything in return, and who inspire everyone they meet simply by the way they live. My sister is one of those rare and beautiful souls. Tamara is the glue of our family—loving, warm, and giving in ways that make all of us stronger and closer. Her heart for others shines not only at home but also in her work. As an assistant in her classroom, she pours her patience, compassion, and dedication into every child she helps. She doesn’t just teach—she uplifts, encourages, and shows them the kind of care that changes lives. She is also one of the hardest workers I know. Her determination inspires everyone around her to rise to their best. And while life has tested her with challenges of her own, she has faced each one with courage and grace. Tamara never lets hardship define her—she meets it with strength, resilience, and an unshakable spirit. My sister is proof that true strength is not loud or boastful—it is steady, compassionate, and full of grace. I am endlessly proud of Tamara, grateful for her example, and blessed to call her my sister. We love you, Tamara — thank you for being a light that shines bright for all to see. #LCOY

My family and I have been close friends, basically family, with Tamara and her family for over 15 years starting when Tamara and I worked together in the nursing field. She has an incredibly generous and loving heart, warm personality, great sense of humor, and is constantly thinking about others and their well-being. I personally watched as she provided compassionate and thorough care to adult and elderly patients. I have no doubt she is providing the same compassionate and thorough care, guidance, education, and understanding for her specialized population of students. They are blessed to have her with them, and I know she feels blessed and honored to be there for them as well! Good luck Tamara and keep up the amazing work!!
