Ms. Kim is a diamond in the teaching field. She shines in so much more ways than just her teaching. Ms. Kim is a teacher that inspires and cares for her students in addition to teaching them about the Korean language and culture. I was honored to be the first class of students she taught at Lowell High school and have always been up to date on the events of the Korean program. I can see how Ms. Kim has poured her heart and soul into this program as there are so many events that bridges students at Lowell with the Korean culture. The most important thing is, only happy students come out of Ms. Kim’s Korean class!
Ms. Doyeon Kim has taught 2 of my children and is a widely respected teacher and her school and the S.F. Bay Area Korean community. She single-handedly keeps the Korean language program alive with excellent instructions and community involvement. Her students are of a diverse background but she ensures that all of them learn the Korean language and the culture. She didn't slow down even after the birth of her first child. I'm not sure how she does it but she is a gem in our high school and deserves top accolades.
Ms. Kim has inspired my daughter, now a junior, to love Korean language and culture. She creates a fun learning environment, connecting the students to pen pals in Korea, bringing in Korean nationals to guest lecture, and conducting Korean cooking demonstrations. Under her tutelage, my daughter has been motivated to serve as a Korean tutor for grade school kids and now aspires to gain national certification for Korean language proficiency.
Ms. Kim is a very dedicated teacher. As her colleague in the World Department, I can see her love for language and culture. She organizes traditional Korean Holidays where food and outfits are key; students cook in class and wear the traditional clothes of Korea. Ms. Kim is well respected by everyone at school and loved by her students. I always hear great comments about her class from my homeroom students and students that take Korean and Spanish.
As Ms. Kim's colleague as a teacher in the Lowell High School World Languages department, I can say that on top of the incredible learning experiences she creates for her students, Ms. Kim supports her colleagues' professional growth and refinement of their craft through her leadership role in our team meetings. She is a highly valued and trusted member of the department and school faculty, and a role model to her students.

Even though we don’t teach at the same school, we work together as Korean teachers through workshops and collaborative projects. Whenever we do, she naturally becomes the person everyone looks to. What I admire most is how much she cares about giving students real experiences with Korean language and culture. Though I’ve graduated, Ms. Kim’s teaching still impacts my life as I go on to learn Korean at my university. She provided a lot of support not only in class but also in my life. Ever since she first came to Lowell, Ms. Kim has completely revolutionized the program. Not only is she a great teacher who ensures all the students are able to succeed in language studies, she has created a culture at Lowell that no other language course has. From making Korean cultural foods to bringing in a Taekwondo dance instructor to teaching us all the different traditional Korean games for Chuseok, Ms. Kim does her best to help her students experience Korean culture. She truly deserves this nomination and she truly is an example of a Life Changer.
I've known Ms. Kim for a long time. She's supported me in learning Korean since I was a child and helped me grow in connection to my culture. She genuinely cares for her students in the way she teaches and interacts with us. Ms. Kim puts in so much effort as an educator and as a friend, I really appreciate it. Although I have graduated from the Korean program at Lowell, the sense of community Ms. Kim fostered is still with me, as I know I am more than welcome to come back and be involved.
Ms. Kim was my Korean teacher in freshman year. I was one of the only freshman in the high level class, and I remember that she always looked out for us and helped make our class experience very memorable. She really cares for her students and makes the class really immersive and fun. When I was having a difficult time, Ms. Kim helped me feel supported and cared for. Ms. Kim is one of the favorite teachers I've had, she truly is one of a kind.
My wife is always thinking ahead and planning ways to give her students meaningful and memorable learning experiences. Even after long days, she continues to reflect on how to improve her classes and better support her students. She truly cares about each of them, and her students have always been her top priority. Ms. Kim is one of the best teachers i have had. She is kind and supportive, and she wants all of her students to succeed and have fun in her class. Before high school I had never taken a language class before, so I had no idea what to expect. When I walked into her class on the first day, I instantly felt welcomed. Before I became a student at Lowell High School, I heard so much about how good the Korean teacher was which was Ms Kim. I really did hope I did get her. The way Ms Kim when she introduced herself on the first day of school reminded me how lucky I am to be in her class. Ms Kim is a very sweet, caring, understanding, supportive, and funny person. Whenever I make a mistake she doesn't punish me for it but instead tells me what was wrong in a calm tone and helps me by giving me advice to be better. Whenever someone needs any help or clarification, she does her best to help them understand and helps correct any of their mistakes. For example, after learning about World War II and the issue of comfort women, our students visited the statue of comfort women in San Francisco. When I first joined Lowell High school, I had a difficult time adjusting to my classes. However Ms. Kim's class made me feel welcomed and her class was what I looked forward to attending everyday. Whenever a student is struggling with the work she will provide help when needed and find a way to make it easier for them to understand. Ms. Kim is an excellent teacher and is a very understandable and easy to follow and learn from teacher! She always makes sure that her students are able to grasp the concept of what we are learning well before we take a test and truly makes class very fun and something to look forward to. She always looks out for others and tried to make everything fun. For example, like the time she signed up so our class could have a cooking class from chefs that came straight from Korea. Whenever I make a mistake in spelling or have multiple questions on pronunciation of the reading, Ms. Kim always takes the time to go over these things with me patiently. Ms. Kim works on making the class engaging and fun while still managing to go over the curriculum. She reaches out to a multitude of different organizations and Korean schools to plan event and field trips throughout the school year. In my short time as a high school freshmen taking Korean class, I was able to meet Korean students in person, get a Korean buddy online, and cook with a Korean chef. These events along with engaging lectures shows how she attempts to make her classroom experience one you will never forget.

No matter what background or culture you come from, Ms. Kim will accept you with open arms. She is very passionate about her teachings and her passion shines through her Korean lessons.
From my personal experience, as her current student, I would go as so far to say that being her student has been a life chnaging experience. As a Chinese student, foreign to her culture, she introduced me to Korean culture with open arms bringing nothing but smiles and giggles to my face. She creates a warm and welcoming ambience with her kindness and is nothing short of compassionate. My Korean skills have improved exponentially after taking her classes, and I have no regret choosing Korean, and getting out of my comfort zone.
Ms. Kim is more than a teacher, she is someone who truly cared about her students inside and outside of the classroom. She always goes out of her way to find funs ways to teach Korean and even Korean culture, through cooking lessons, history lessons and even fun events during Chuseok and Seollal. Ms. Kim is able to create a welcoming and safe classroom where everyone feels valued. Her patience, kindness and encouragement have made a lasting impact on me and many of my classmate.
I am incredibly grateful to nominate my Korean teacher, Ms Kim, who has taught me for all four years of high school. Ms Kim is one of the best teachers I’ve had in all of my high school years. Ive taken Korean class for 4 years now, and I always learn something new, while staying invested in what we’re doing. Ms Kim has always been supportive, and always helps whenever I get confused, or forget something. She’s my favorite teacher, and does a good job at explaining everything. I see everyday how hard she works, to make sure that what we’re learning is helpful, educational, and engaging to everyone. She shared Korean culture with us, while having fun at the same time.
I’ve had Ms. Kim as a Korean teacher ever since freshman year and her class has always been my favorite. From learning the Korean language and culture, she has made class engaging through speaking practices, cultural games, and cooking classes, I’ve learned so much from her. She’s introduced me to contests that she believes that I can succeed in. Without her, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to apply to any of them and I’m so happy I did, winning 2nd place in a Korean Art & Writing contest. I’ve had Ms. Kim as my Korean teacher for the past four years, and I can confidently say she is one of the most dedicated and supportive teachers I’ve ever had. She not only teaches with passion and clarity but also goes above and beyond to make sure her students succeed. She is always available to offer extra help, whether it’s answering questions after class, reviewing material in detail, or giving additional opportunities to improve grades as long as we’re willing to put in the effort. Her commitment to her students’ growth both academically and personally is clear, and it has made such a positive impact on my learning experience as well as my linguistic skills and proficiency in Korean.
Ms Kim has always been a great teacher. I’ve had her since middle school and seeing her in my high school built a little hope to myself. I felt a bit more comfortable since Ms Kim has always been a caring and loving teacher not only does she teaches us the language but she surrounds us with the Korean culture. She tries very hard to have a good and fun time during class and works very hard with different teachers from korea for us students to learn the Korean culture physically and visually.

In class, Ms. Kim not only teaches Korean language but also Korean culture in general. She does this by planning activities for her classes to do, such as taekwondo classes, celebrating Korean holidays, cooking, pen-palling with students in Korea, and taking us on field trips. Thanks to her kind character, she encourages students to keep coming to class and take more years of Korean.
I had Ms Kim as my Korean teacher in high school and let’s just say she was the most supportive teacher I ever had. I have always struggled in school especially in the language requirement area. In Highschool I first took Chinese to fulfill my language requirement but I had a terrible experience with that class and ended up failing that class. Since highschool requires you to complete 2 years of another language class and I had only 2 years left of highschool I took a gamble I had so many language classes to choose from but if I took the wrong class and failed I would not graduate highschool. I eventually decided to take Korean because I heard that Ms Kim is really patient and supportive and it turns out that was true! I a lot of struggles for the next 2 years in the class but Ms Kim never gave up on me she gave me more time time on assignments and gave me multiple chances to raise my grade even though I didn’t deserve. I am very grateful to have been Ms Kim student without Ms Kim support I think I would have not graduated highschool. she really did change my life!

Ms. Kim is my favorite teacher at Lowell HS. She has guided my Korean education from my first day as a freshmen to now present day as a junior. Ms. Kim always put her students before herself to make sure that everybody has equal opportunity to succeed. The time she puts into her class is like no other. She always takes time out of her lunch and after school to support me and fellow peers, not just with the Korean language, but with life. When I think of a great person who always works their hardest to make sure we have the best learning environment, I think of Ms. Kim. She always works so hard for us to provide us with field trips and meeting other Korean High School students. She really cares about us and wants the best for us. She stays up late at night to set up these field trips and communicate with the teachers from Korea. I really appreciate her efforts and it means so much to me how she works so hard for us. She is the best teacher I have ever had and she really cares about us and does all of this work while having to raise a child. Mrs. Kim is one of the few teachers the invests her personal resources in students' learning. This year, because of her, we had the opportunity to learn Taekwondo, make Kimchi, partner with Korean students, and master the Korean language. Her teaching goes beyond simply educating her students on Korean, but also providing hands-on experiences where we can directly interact with Korean culture.
