We wholeheartedly support the nomination of Mrs. Borto for this award! She has been a true blessing to our family and has transformed the lives of so many.
Even before our daughter officially entered the school district, Mrs. Borto went above and beyond to support us. She took the time to meet with us and provided us with helpful resource materials for our daughter to work on over the summer. This thoughtful gesture not only helped prepare our daughter academically, it also eased her transition into the school community.
From the moment our daughter started in Mrs. Borto's class, she was met with kindness and an infectious enthusiasm. Mrs. Borto's warm and welcoming personality, always accompanied by a bright smile, helped our daughter feel at home. She also provided the critical guidance and support necessary to transition smoothly into school life.
Mrs. Borto's impact on our daughter's education and personal growth has been significant. She played a pivotal role in building our daughter's scholastic confidence, helping to teach her the English language necessary to be a successful student, and most importantly, fostering a love for learning that continues to this day. Our daughter is now in college, and her passion for education remains strong, thanks in large part to the foundation that Mrs. Borto helped to establish.
Throughout the years, Mrs. Borto has continued to stay in touch, always there to celebrate our daughter’s successes and milestones. Her genuine caring and dedication extend beyond the classroom, making her a true ‘life changer’ in every sense of the word.
Mrs. Borto's unwavering support, dedication, and positive influence have made an indelible mark on our lives. We believe she embodies the qualities of a ‘life changer’ and is truly deserving of this award.
I have worked with Betty at HES for 3 years now. I am lucky to call her a colleague and a friend. Betty has the biggest heart and a desire to make the world a better place. The children love to get off their buses in the morning and get big hugs from Betty before they head into school to start their day. Not only does she go above and beyond to support her students and their families, but she cares for her fellow workers as well. One day Betty came to check in on me because she thought that I looked stressed / overwhelmed when she saw me in the hallway and she wanted to make sure that I was feeling okay. Betty has a kind caring heart and has a gift for making people feel loved.
Ms. Betty welcomed me in as another son into her family. She has always been supportive of my endeavors and constantly checks up to see how I’m doing. She cares so much about those who are in her life and she goes beyond to help those she doesn’t know. Ms. Betty has an exceptional family and has always left her door open for me.
Betty has an incredible gift for connecting with children and changing their lives for the better. Her boundless energy, joy, and dedication create lasting memories for everyone she meets. During a recent holiday visit, she spent the entire time teaching my kids Christmas songs in Polish — they were captivated and didn’t want her to leave. Her warmth and passion for sharing culture and music are truly inspiring.
Mrs. Borto's dedication to her students and their families is boundless and inspiring. She creates a sense of family and community amongst our English Language Learners that remains long beyond their years in our school. She creates life-long bonds with her students and their families by bridging their connection to school and offering a helping hand with whatever is needed. As her Principal, I wholeheartedly indorse her for this award. Mrs. Borto not only creates a warm and welcome environment for her students, but she brings the joy and celebration of all cultures to our school and enriches our lives by sharing her passion and expertise. Mrs. Borto leads our school in multicultural events and shares her expertise regarding language acquisition with her collegues. Her classroom is always a safe and inviting place to be. Mrs. Borto is an invaluable asset to our school!
I think nominating Betty Borto for LifeChanger of the Year is a wonderful decision and well deserving. I have worked in the same elementary school as Betty for 10 years. Every time I see Betty she is always smiling and very positive. She makes it very fun for her students as they are learning a new language. Betty is a woman full of compassion. She finds out if a student needs a new winter coat or why a student is not bringing lunch into school. Then she takes action and makes certain the student's needs are met.
She is not just a teacher; she is a beacon that guides, inspires, and transforms lives. With her kindness and dedication, she goes beyond what any teaching manual could ever prescribe. To her, every child is a universe full of possibilities, and her calling is to help them discover their light. She is extraordinary!
I have been lucky enough to have Mrs. Borto as my colleague and friend for four years now. As the building speech-language therapist, I collaborate with Betty often to support the communication needs of our students. She provides her students with so many opportunities to build their communication skills and background knowledge, while celebrating their strengths and interests. We have bus duty together in the morning and Mrs. Borto immediately brightens students' days just by greeting them and having a conversation with them. She makes her students and colleagues feel special, welcomed, and loved!

Betty Borto has such a positive impact on her students and the HES community! My students who work with her absolutely adore going to ESL classes! They jump up with excitement to join Mrs. Borto at the door for the fun they do in ESL. She exposes them to different aspects of the community through fun activities. She connects with the whole school by creating Multicultural Mondays on our school-wide video announcements. This teaches all of the students about different holidays and cultural events happening during the month. She even has students guest star in these videos which brings so much joy to their faces. Betty works hard and is very deserving of this award!
I’m a retired elementary G/T specialist and former classroom teacher. I taught in the same school with Betty Borto for over 20 years. In all those years, Betty was an enthusiastic and loving supporter of all her kids. (And sometimes a bit cray!) She would do anything to assist a child or their family. She ran a collection drives for Halloween costumes for any children who needed them. She’d have ice cream party celebrations, and talent shows in front of the entire school highlighting the talents and traditions of her students. She made sure that every child in her care felt hope, love, and that they were indeed special.
Betty’s dedication to her students and their families makes her an exemplary candidate for the Lifechanger Award. Her creativity and innovative teaching methods create a warm and engaging environment. She truly cares about her students and makes learning fun. The past 11 years that I have worked with her, she has demonstrated a genuine passion for teaching multi-language learners and I am honored to work with her and to call her a friend.
Mrs. Borto is an incredible elementary ESL teacher who puts her heart into helping her students succeed, both academically and personally. Her dedication to her students and her willingness to support her colleagues make her an invaluable part of the school. She truly goes above and beyond every day!
Mrs. Borto is an amazing ESL teacher. She is compassionate, kind, and has a love for her students like no other. When we came from Puerto Rico, Mrs. Borto helped me and my child to navigate through the new school system. She made sure my son felt comfortable and that he had the best education mean while he was learning a new language with her and in a new school. Mrs Borto always gives her best, not only inside the school but outside too. She have a heart of gold. In 2017, when hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico there she was making sure my family was doing good. I will forever treasure Mrs. Borto, so is my son and our family.
It is with immense pride and admiration that I recommend Betty Borto for this award. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Betty first as her principal and now as Superintendent, and throughout her tenure, she has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her students' success. Betty possesses a rare combination of expertise, passion, and empathy, creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to take risks and embrace their language journey. Her innovative teaching methods, coupled with her deep understanding of language acquisition, have resulted in remarkable progress for her students. Beyond her exceptional teaching abilities, Betty is a true leader and collaborator, actively contributing to the school community and serving as a mentor to her colleagues. She is an invaluable asset to our district, and I wholeheartedly believe she is deserving of this recognition.

When I first came to Hillsborough elementary school I was in 3 grade. I did not know where my classroom was. So when I got off the bus I asked a teacher can you please help me find my classroom and it was Mrs.Borto she immediately knew that I was polish. When I meet her I did not know how to speak English. Then Mrs.Borto helped me speak and understand the words I did not know. She still helps me when I need it. She is very kind and smart. When I am sad she always makes me happy and laugh. She has a heart open for all kids. She is the best ESL teacher you could imagine. And that is why Mrs.Borto deserves the Life Changer of the year. Mrs.Borto YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Her enthusiasm for teaching students who have come from countries far and wide expresses her true passion to teaching. She is a heck of a life changer!

I have had the privilge of knowing Betty Borto in a professional setting. She is a selfless person. She is constantly thinking of her kids at school. She is always in a positive mood and brings laughter into any situtuation. She is a teacher that exudes passion in her profession. She is a teacher that leaves a lasting impression on a child and motivates them to be their best.
Mrs. Borto is outstanding teacher and more than a life changer!! She is an individual who dedicates her life in educating, supporting, encouraging students in our community. I would like to share a personal story why Mrs. Borto deserves to be recognized. My daughter became very sick and was hospitalized for few weeks. Despite my daughter no longer being in that school since she was in 5th grade, Mrs. Borto took the initiative to purchase a basket of beautiful flowers and asked all of her teacher who had her previous years to write positive notes! Those notes were placed on sticks and into the beautiful flowers! When my husband brought it to the hospital, our daughter cried. To be able to read all the kind notes from all her previous teachers was priceless! This was all thanks to Mrs. Borto! Mrs. Borto goes above and beyond in making her students feel special! She has a true talent and deserves to be recognized!
Mrs.Borto, who is also my mom, is the most genuine and caring teachers I’ve ever seen. I believe her ability to be so good with kids comes from her being a great mother to my brother and I. I’ve seen first hand how she has transformed many children’s lives for the better, and has built a meaningful long lasting connection with those kids that they will remember for a very long time. Mrs. borto isn’t just your average teacher who just shows up everyday and gets her day over with. She always goes above and beyond in everything she does. She contributes to her students lives not only in school, but also outside of it. She goes out her way to dedicate time to help her students families if they are need of any support. She translates Spanish to English for the students parents at times whenever the parents may not speak any English. These are just a few examples of what Mrs borto does to go above and beyond. I can truthfully and confidently say that Mrs Borto is a 100% a life changer to countless students.
My son relocated from Japan and entered kindergarten in Hillsborough Elementary School. I was really concerned because he could not understand/speak any English at that time. However, Mrs. Borto kindly and passionately taught English by using Google translation, music, dance, interesting quiz, etc. Now my son is in the 2nd grade and thanks to her efforts, he has got used to the new environment and he has learned English and culture. Mrs. Borto always teaches him in a bright and cheerful manner, so he is able to enjoy going to school. I can say Mrs. Borto is his life changer!
When I came here from Japan, I didn't know any English. But I started to get better. I think this happened because I learned from Mrs. Borto!! She is a kind and good teacher for me. She lets us play games on Fridays. I think Borto is a very nice teacher!
Mrs.Borto was one of my teachers when I was in elementary school I have known her since I was in kindergarten, I always enjoyed being in her classroom it was always so much fun. She always made me feel included she also made her class super fun with many different activities or trips that we did as a class. I Rembertów being in her class and putting on special performances for assembly’s they were always so fun to learn and perform Mrs.Borto always came up with fun and creative dances. She is definitely a team player and is always ready for anything she does a great job with everything she does. I would like to congratulate Mrs.Borto on this nomination I am so happy that I have had her as a teacher and can say she definitely deserves this
I have worked with Betty Borto for close to twenty five years. She is the ESL teacher and I am a computer teacher at a large elementary school. Betty is always ready to try new technology with her students. She incorporates technology into her lessons on a daily basis and consistently looks for ways that technology can make things better for her ESL students. She goes over and above for her kids and her fellow staff members. During the pandemic Betty did all she could to help identify students who needed technology assistance with WiFi and home usage of computers. She made sure that our technology department knew exactly who would need extra support and would assist the parents who did not speak English in making sure students were able to participate in lessons without difficulty. She always acts as an advocate for her students and their families. Her contribution to our school and her students is without parallel.
I want to congratulate Mrs. Borto for her nomination to the Lifechanger of the year contest! She helped our village children tremendously this year and for that and many other reasons she deserves to be named The Life Changer of the year!

We came to the USA on the U for U program. Before the war, my daughter studied in Ukraine in the second grade. In America, she went to the first grade. We are very glad that Mrs. Borto was the ESL teacher. She is a person with a big heart, a very good teacher who knows how to support and help in different situations at school and in life .She has her own teaching style. Her lessons are interesting and fun.She really helped my daughter adapt to new school .We returned to Ukraine, but warm memories of Hillsboro Elementary School and teacher Mrs. Borto will always be with us.
Mrs. Borto is a ray of sunshine for anyone who walks into her school. No question is too big for her if you need help and no need is too small for her. She is ALWAYS looking to help. While my child was not in ESL, her classmates were. Mrs. Borto creating a nurturing, transformative experience not only for her own students, but for their classmates around them. She was an encouraging voice for friends to support each other in the learning process and through friendships. Mrs Borto also transforms her school into a simply AMAZING multicultural atmosphere, almost getting a feel as if you were in Epcot.
Mrs. Borto instilled the courage my daughter needed to stand on stage in her dirndle to represent Germany with a German lullaby in front of the entire school. Friends dancing on stage and sang for their respective cultures. I ran a Girl Scout troop and was able to have our girls present their Egypt, Germany and Japan presentations to their classes, giving everyone a little extra knowledge each day.
Having Mrs. Borto as a team member of her school is an asset not only to her students, but to her amazing peers. She is a team players, gets the job done to help others and is always willing to carve out time in her busy day for the greater good of the school and its students.
Both, Mrs. Borto (my sister) and I, immigrated to the United States from Poland more than 30 years ago, and at that time neither one of us could speak, read or write in English. This was a hardship, which we had to overcome to be able to build new friendships and become successful.
Mrs. Borto, understands the importance of ESL programs for students, who like herself, some time ago, find themselves in the new homeland without the knowledge of its spoken language. This is why Mrs. Borto was driven to excel herself as a teacher and completed a master's degree in education, as well as learned to speak Spanish.
Mrs. Borto is passionate about her work, organizing annual multicultural event, which is both fun and educational to all students and staff.
Throughout the year she engages in helping the less fortunate, through various humanitarian organizations.
But what stands out the most to me , is her unique ability to connect with each student. Long after they leave her ESL class, the students remember Mrs. Borto for more than just a teacher. Mrs. Borto cares deeply about her students and often talks about them at the dinner table, as if they were her own family.
Every class Mrs. Borto teaches and, each kind gesture Mrs. Borto does is Life changing to her students' future.
I would like to congratulate Mrs. Borto, my sister, on a well deserved nomination for the Life Changer of the year!
La Sra. Borto es una persona increíble amigable. Mis hijo uriel disfrutan de la Sra. Borto. Además, muestra buenas cualidades humanas y siempre está dispuesta a ayudar en cualquier situación. Nuestra familia agradece su apoyo y ayuda.
I have know Mrs. Borto since 3th grade. She was my first ESL teacher. At that time it was so challenging to learn a new language and be far away from home for me, but with Mrs. Borto's help I was able to overcome that language barrier. Mrs. Borto teaching style and the passion that she shows to teach English as a second language to kids, definitely contributes to the students having a wonderful learning experience. She's funny, kind, compassionate, and caring to her students. She makes her class fun through different games that also allow students to learn new things everyday. Everyday it's different in Mrs. Borto's class. No matter how much English you speak or how much you struggle with the language, Mrs. Borto will always be there for you, helping you reach your full potential.
Mrs. Borto is an incredible ESL teacher at HES.
She is a professional and just a kind person. Her lessons are interesting, exciting and give a lot of knowledge.
Thank you for being the teacher of my sons.
My daughter (Beata)Betty, came to the United States of America without knowing any English! She had to learn how to speak, read and write in English in high school which was very difficult. Then while working two jobs, she put herself through college so that she can help children just like her to learn English and to
succeed in the new land. She accomplished so much. She loves her job and it's evident that all her students love her too! She raised two beautiful sons and has been helping myself and my husband, as we are now retired and elderly . We are very proud of Betty. She's very brave, courageous and kind. I believe her hard work and dedication and especially her passion and love for the kids and for teaching , makes her the life changer that she is!
Betty Borto is an extraordinary educator and an even more remarkable human being. For nearly a decade as her supervisor, I witnessed firsthand her unwavering dedication to her English language learners. Betty has an incredible ability to look beyond the obstacles her students face (whether it’s learning a new language, adjusting to a different culture, or overcoming personal hardships such as trauma, homelessness, or health challenges) and find meaningful ways to lift them up. She is truly selfless in her work, consistently prioritizing her students’ social-emotional well-being alongside their academic success. Betty doesn’t just teach; she transforms lives. Her radiant smile, kind spirit, and relentless advocacy have left an indelible mark on countless students and families throughout her 25-year career. Betty’s commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment extends far beyond the walls of her classroom. She goes above and beyond to support immigrant families, connecting them with essential resources, guiding them through unfamiliar systems, and even offering her own time and means to ensure their success. Her ability to foster meaningful relationships with parents and actively involve them in their children’s education is truly inspiring. Betty also celebrates the diversity of her students in profound ways, most notably through her annual multicultural festival. This event, which she dedicates countless hours of her own time to organizing, ensures that every student and family feels valued, represented, and part of a thriving community. Betty is far more than an exceptional educator; she is a role model, an inspiring colleague, a compassionate leader, and a friend whose passion and kindness touch everyone she meets. Betty Borto embodies the very essence of a life changer, and her impact will resonate across generations. Her legacy of advocacy, empathy, and dedication is one that will continue to inspire us all.
I know Mrs Borto for long time she’s always asking me a lot of questions about Arabic kids because I speak the Language and she likes to learn so she can talks with the kids in school about their languages Honestly hard to find a teacher thinking and Care about the kids futures like her .
Mrs. Borto is an amazing teacher! I enjoyed ESL because of her incredible teaching style. She always made sure that each student was comfortable while efficiently teaching us how to confidently speak English. I still miss being in her class. Thank you for making elementary school so memorable Mrs. Borto!
Your dedication and passion for teaching English as a second language are truly inspiring! You create such a supportive and engaging learning environment that helps students grow in confidence and communication. Your patience and creativity make a real difference in their lives. Keep up the amazing work!
In our family, we have a saying: ' WWBBD?', which clearly stands for: ' What Would Betty Borto Do?' We skip the honorofic, because we consider her a true friend. And an inspiration. And a powerhouse. When you would think a situation is hopeless, when you are afraid, unsure, too shy, too immigrant, too ' my English isn't good enough', overwhelmed by the system and reality, she will jump in and fight on behalf of your child. Herself a first-generation American, she knows exactly where we come from: she has been there. The expertise, empathy, dedication and enthusiasm she demonstrates daily, doing the job she loves, is a combination found rarely these days. Her optimism and creativity are contagious, and there is nothing she wouldn't do for the kids. On top of being a phenomenal professional, Mrs.Borto equips her students not only with a precious tool of the English language, but teaches them to believe in themselves, and each other. The children leave her class smarter, stronger, confident. They feel seen and appreciated, ready to face the world out there and stand up for themselves and their values.
My mom has always been an incredible teacher who touched the lives of so many children, especially those from many cultural backgrounds across the world. She has a very unique ability to connect with every student, making them feel seen, valued, and capable of achieving great things, no matter where they came from. Her classroom is a place where differences are celebrated and every child is encouraged to share their unique perspective. Even years after her students moved on to higher education, many continue to remember her with deep affection and gratitude, speaking about the lasting impact she had on their lives. Her kindness, patience, and strong belief in her students’ potential shaped not only their academic success but also their personal growth, inspiring them to reach for their dreams. My mom's legacy as a teacher lives on in the hearts of those she mentored, and the lessons she passed on continue to guide them throughout their lives! Congratulations Mom on your nomination, as you are a true lifesaver!
Mrs. Borto really deserves to be the best life changer. I was blessed to have her as the teacher for my three children. For many years she gave us support not only in academics. She was an essential pillar for my children during very difficult times. I am a cancer survivor and she walked alongside with me and my children through that process. There were years of medications, surgeries and treatments and my children were always supported by her. After, another issue happened and me and my husband received a deportation notice. So once again she was a fundamental pillar and supported us in everything so that my children could continue studying and stay in this beautiful country. Last year my youngest daughter turned 15 and we decided to make her a dinner. We talked to our daughter and let her know that she should know that it was something simple. That she should only choose people who were really important to her and that she should feel that they were always there for her. And guess what? Yes! Mrs. Borto was first on the list. That filled me with pride and reaffirmed what I already believed. She is the best and her vocation to teach goes beyond the 4 walls of a school. She is a real life changer. She did it with me and my family.
Mrs Borto changed my kids life, it was hard for them and me without knowing the language here she did her best to help us they was happy to go school when they knew Mrs Borto is there for them. She is like a second mother to them. She surprised my daughter to come and read for her birthday and my son to his basketball game. They were so happy We really love her and appreciate her for everything she did she is one of the best.
Mrs. Borto is a professional, creative, fun, and friendly person. My children really enjoy attending Mrs. Borto's classes. She presents educational material in an interesting and accessible form. In addition, she shows good human qualities, and she is always ready to help in any life situation. Our family appreciates her support and help.
