Irene Donnelly was nominated by a family member, Diane Cioffi. 

Mrs. Donnelly, a dedicated educator at Pitman Middle School, embodies the essence of teaching as a transformative profession. Her multifaceted career, spanning various roles such as Media Specialist, Social Studies teacher, and technology instructor, is a testament to her adaptability and commitment to education. In addition to her teaching degree, she holds a Masters in Library Science and Educational Leadership. Beyond the classroom, she has served as a class advisor, volunteered on numerous committees and for school events, and initiated programs enriching her students and the broader community. One of her most notable contributions was her creation of "Poems on Parade," which was featured on WHYY PBS. Student poets were featured throughout the town of Pitman and at local businesses. She also instituted the "Battle of the Books" program in Pitman. These initiatives showcase her innovative spirit and dedication to fostering a love of literature and critical thinking among her students. 

Additionally, her involvement with the Pitman Library Board and her evening work at Gloucester County College's library reflects her passion for lifelong learning and community engagement. She is also a prolific athlete with Hall of Fame status for Field Hockey and Lacrosse at the school, county, and collegiate levels. She coached youth and high school sports over her career. Mrs. Donnelly has used her love of sports to connect with and inspire students, demonstrating how athletic discipline can translate into life skills. Her ability to reach children through sports underscores her holistic approach to education, blending physical and intellectual growth.

Her life's journey is a testament to resilience and strength. After the tragic loss of her husband, Mrs. Donnelly raised her two children while continuing to give back to those in her classroom.
