LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Dr. Sherri N. Wilson was nominated by her colleague, Christine Clock.

Dr. Wilson is an inspirational, visionary leader who consistently demonstrates a commitment to bringing equity of access and opportunities to the students at Plantation Middle School.  Despite barriers to funding, Dr. Wilson leverages partnerships with outside agencies to bring new and innovative programming to the students.  Under Dr. Wilson’s leadership, Plantation Middle School was awarded a fully funded grant from the U.S. State Department for a Chinese teacher.  She has implemented mentoring programs in partnership with OIC and Orange Bowl Leadership Academy to provide at-risk students with a support network to assist them with meeting academic and social-emotional goals. Her newest endeavor is a partnership with Plant4 to build the first Controlled Environment Agriculture site on a U.S. school campus.  Students will have the opportunity to learn about food, nutrition, marketing, and the future of agribusiness in this innovative and technology-based program.

Dr. Wilson provides outstanding instructional leadership, encouraging teachers to pursue professional development and develop their pedagogy. This has led to the development of her school's IB program, which has been recognized for two consecutive years as a Magnet Schools of America Merit Award of Distinction School. Teachers in her school feel supported and valued.

Dr. Wilson has a heart for students, taking time each day to walk the hallways and visit the cafeteria and classrooms to engage with students.  She cares about the whole child and knows that supporting a student’s sense of well-being is a component necessary for academic success.  Whether she is providing students with headbands or new school uniforms, or assisting a student in need with getting ready for the end of year dance, it is evident to all students and staff that she cares and loves the students of Plantation Middle School.
