Todd Loftin was nominated by his colleague, Kathy Hall.
Dr. Loftin exemplifies what it means to be a positive force in the school community, leading with resilience, empathy, and a deep commitment to students and staff. His unwavering dedication has been evident in the many challenges he has successfully navigated, particularly over the past few years. He has two tenets that he frequently shares: "Everyone needs someone to believe in them." and "Don't tell me 'no'; tell me how."
Leading Through Challenges
Under Dr. Loftin's leadership, Central Junior High has weathered a trying period marked by the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic and an ongoing, challenging remodel of the school. Despite repeated setbacks with the remodel, including disruptive bus and parent pick-up changes, delays, leaky windows, and flooding, he has remained steadfast and optimistic. His ability to manage each new hurdle cheerfully is a cornerstone of his positive outlook.
Advocacy and Support for Teachers and Staff
Dr. Loftin is considerate of his teachers' time, ensuring that meetings and professional obligations are meaningful and efficient. He strongly advocates for his staff, consistently working to provide the resources and support they need to succeed. His respect for educators has been the foundation of his efforts to establish a collaborative and encouraging environment. In addition to Teacher Appreciation Week events, he asks the whole school to join him in showing appreciation for the school's staff, including custodians, cafeteria staff, and bus drivers.
Connecting with Students
One of the most remarkable aspects of Dr. Loftin's leadership is his genuine connection with students. He makes it a point to learn as many names as possible, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. On many mornings, as the students enter the school, he greets them, asking their names if he does not know them and handing out positive quotes on paper strips. He is invested in setting an uplifting tone for each day. His presence in the hallways during class transitions and while class is in session is a testament to his commitment to being approachable and involved in the school's daily life.
Leading by Example
Dr. Loftin is unafraid to step up and take on the most unfun tasks, including cafeteria duty and parent pick-up line. During the first remodel parking lot changes that sowed confusion and frustration for bus drivers and parents, he took on the unenviable job of directing traffic nearly every afternoon, ensuring the safety of people and vehicles. He also actively participates in school culture by dressing up on costume days and celebrating successes, big and small. Dr. Loftin is actively engaged throughout the day, making his presence felt in hallways, classrooms, and common areas. He makes an active effort to be visible during the school day. Looking for him in the office is often unsuccessful because he is in the school building somewhere, checking to make sure things are going well.
Commitment to Positivity and Safety
Dr. Loftin's top priority is safety, and he works diligently to maintain a secure environment for everyone in the building. His positive outlook and ability to find the good in every situation have made him a positive force in the school. He celebrates achievements, fostering a culture of recognition and appreciation that uplifts the entire school community.
"In conclusion, Dr. Todd Loftin is a true LifeChanger. His dedication, positivity, and proactive leadership invite the Central Junior High community members to help him create a space where students and staff feel supported, inspired, and safe. It is an honor to nominate him for this well-deserved recognition," said Hall.
