Amanda Cotter was nominated by the parent of a student, Melissa Kill.
Ms. Cotter is the kind of teacher that every kid needs. She supports her students and creates a culture of kindness for anyone near her. Ms. Cotter makes every single one of her students feel seen and loved. For Christmas, she made each student a blanket to take home for Christmas break to ensure every kid received a gift and had something warm to snuggle up with.
"Ms. Cotter has personally helped my daughter in so many ways, through so many events in and outside of school," said Kill.
You can often find Ms. Cotter on the sidelines of her kids' sporting events, ensuring they always have a cheering section. With her compassion and beautiful, giving heart, she is a leader in the educational community. Ms. Cotter instills a love of learning and kindness into every student fortunate enough to have her in their corner. She loves her students so unconditionally that they learn to truly love themselves. By the end of the school year, the only people who believe in students more than Ms. Cotter are the students themselves.

I was in Miss cotter’s class a few years back. I swear I learned so much that year and she really prepared me for middle school. I was going through a tough time in fifth grade because I was starting to live with my gram. I felt like I didn’t have any friends and miss cotter was a new teacher at Randolph and she had moved from maine. I remember when I heard the name cotter I thought she was going to be weird and to strict. She is strict in her own way but the best way possible if that makes sense. She makes you own your stuff and do what is best for you. i wrote her a note telling her how I had no birthday plans and she wrote back asking me what i would want to do if i did have plans. I told her i always wanted to go to the water park in west leb. She told me that maybe one day I’d be able to have my birthday wish granted. She schemed with my gram and that weekend when my doorbell rang it was the one and only miss cotter. She picked me up and we went to that very water park. She spent the whole day with me. Then she brought me back home and rode snowmobiles with me. I will never forget that birthday or her. Miss cotter you know who this is! Love you miss cotter and proud of you (:
Wow, Amanda! What a well-deserved recognition. The work you do everyday to shape our new generation, and by extension, the community is very valuable, inspiring and simply cool. Thank you for what you do.
Ms. Cotter is the best teacher I've ever had because she is really nice to everyone and she helps me if i need help with something.
Miss. Cotter, I am eternally grateful to be your student. I could spend every day with you and never get bored. So far, you have made this year my best and most favorite experience in my whole entire elementary school career. In fifth grade, I hadn't even met you and I knew you would be the best. You make great enjoyment out of every subject whether it's a fun challenge, or a boring history lesson. Either way, you make any day enjoyable. You bring much light into the day, even if it's a stormy one. Closing this up, you're an outstanding and life changing teacher. One I could NEVER forget. Closing this up, even though I could go on for ages, you're my favorite teacher. No future teacher could change that.
Miss.Cotter has been the only teacher that I will remember for my whole life. She has taught me more than academics, she has taught me how to be a new and better me. Miss. Cotter will forever and always be in my heart, in a safe place I call home. She has pulled me out of dark times and is healing them too. Miss.cotter is the best teacher I’ve ever had, if I could stay in her class forever I would gladly do so.

I am a student of ms. cotter, shes awesome! ms. cotter is always helping students out, buying stuff for us, and more! she lets us do fun games, and makes learning fun! i'm glad i got more than one year with her, but i am sad to leave her for middle school, but i hope to come visit the class every so often, ms. cotter is a kind, gentle yet firm smart lady, i truly believe that she should win, sure, sometimes she may be a little upset, but one time, she scolded us for being bad, and she felt so bad that she gave us pizza the next day! ms. cotter is a wonderful, kind-hearted, awesome person!
Ms. Cotter stands out as one of the most positive, encouraging, connected teachers that I have met. In and out of the classroom, she cares deeply about her students and she tells them that. She highlights their strengths, encourages them to believe in themselves and helps them to build confidence in their abilities. She takes the time to write hand-written notes and spend 1:1 time with students who need or want it. Our kids will be forever impacted from having her as their teacher. She is highly deserving of this!
miss.cotter his been my teacher for 2 years i'v learned so much more with her being my teacher I hope you win
Amanda. I am so proud of the person you are and have become. I’m am thankful everyday you’re my daughter and best friend. Amanda you are a caring, kind, compassionate woman and you amaze me everyday. You are the best daughter, sister, teacher, friend and anyone is blessed and lucky to have you in their life. I loved participating in your classroom and getting to see you in action. You connect with all of your students on all levels and I was in awe watching you interact with your students. You go above and beyond to reach all your students needs, academically and emotionally. Amanda you genuinely care about the well being of your students and have strong relationships with all of them past and current. Amanda I love how you participate and support your students in and out of school. Your incredible! One of a kind! Amanda you always light up the room wherever you are with your personality and everyone who knows you can see your a special woman. I’ll end this by saying Amanda you impact the lives of others in all areas of your life by just being the special person you are. I love you. Mom.
It truly fills my heart with joy to see my daughter blossom into a caring, responsible and dedicated adult. A parent can only hope that their child reaches the heights that Amanda has achieved. Her tremendous qualities can’t help but influence the students that she touches. Every family get together has stories of her complete dedication to her students and her occupation. I could not be more proud of my daughter. Love Dad
Amanda Cotter is a truly amazing teacher. She gets to know her students in advance of having them in class by watching and listening to them on the playground and in the cafeteria and then uses that knowledge to build solid relationships with each and every one of them. Fifth and sixth grades can be a tricky time as students still have the energy and curiosity of children, but are beginning to push the boundaries and rules as adolescents. She handles this all with a clever mix of kindness and humor and inspires them to be their best selves at a critical time in their development. She inspires and values every student in her classroom and they each know it. She is an outstanding candidate for this award.
Teachers often go unrecognized for their hard work, efforts and dedication in providing education to our children. Ms. Cotter has been a life changer to children inside and outside of her classroom. She is accommodating to children's needs and their learning styles. My daughter adores her as a teacher, loves going to school, and loves learning what she teaches, which means so much to me as a parent. I know that my daughters education is in good hands with Ms. Cotter and we should be recognizing teachers like her for their compassion and commitment to our children's education, and the way people like her can impact a child's life so positively. #LCOY
Ms. Cotter has been a wonderful teacher for my daughter. She is top notch so caring, kind and just wonderful human!! She deserves this award and more. RES and students/families are fortunate to have
her.
Amanda’s compassion, empathy and love for humanity goes beyond words. She teaches my son as well as has helped with my daughter. She puts at minimum 200% effort into helping each child during school and uses the majority of her free time and resources to helping and supporting children outside of school. In my 32 years of life I have never met anyone who comes even remotely as close to her in dedication to making this world a better place. Whether she wins the award or not I’m positive she will not be swayed in her mission to love and continue to make this world a better place to live, one person at a time.
I was Amanda’s cheer coach years ago. I have watched Amanda grow into a caring and loving adult and teacher. Love how involved she is with all her students ??
Amanda is my fantastic stepsister. She is such an inspirational teacher and goes above and beyond for her students! They are all so lucky to have her.

I am always so impressed with her genuine love for her students. Those blankets she gave to each one of her students to bring home for christmas were amazing. She didn't just zip down to Walmart and buy them. She hand picked the fleece material for each one of her students to match their personalities, edged them and put their names on them so that every one was unique and personal.
At the beginning of the school year she puts in her own money and gets sponsors to fill in the gaps so each and every student can get a book of their own every month from the scholastic book club to bring home.
Truely no student left out in her class.
In the short time I have known Amada, her love for job and students never fails to amaze me. She is so deserving of this recognition.
I am neighbors with Amanda.i remember Amanda telling from the time I met her if I ever need help with anything to let her know.shes very caring and thinking of others
I had Amanda as a student. She was a wonderful student who showed a lot of kindness and compassion to other students. I’m so very proud of the person she has become. I’m not surprised that she has also become such an amazing, kind, compassionate teacher.

My daughter is in Ms. Cotter’s math class. I often hear about Ms. Cotter and how cool, kind and caring she is. My daughter enjoys having lunch with her. On the last day of school before holiday break, my daughter brought home a special blanket made and given to her by Ms. Cotter. What a special gift that will be cherished for a long time. I feel teachers are very much under appreciated at times and I have personally been in this role so I know. I appreciate the fact that my daughter feels safe and cared for in Ms. Cotter’s presence. Thank you!
Ms. Cotter is a very kind and caring teacher. She helps every child shine in and outside of her classroom. My 1st & 2nd grade children love Ms. Cotter because she supports them in other events at school. She is truly a role model for students and other education professionals.
I don’t even know where to begin. Ms.Cotter has been my Granddaughters teacher for two years and I have watch my granddaughter flourish academically and blossom socially. She is kind, she listens, she relates and she is not only empathetic to her students but can also hold accountability! To say I think she deserves this is an understatement, this was made for her ??
