Alice Cedillo was nominated by her principal, Dr. Chaney Curran.
Mrs. Cedillo has changed the culture and climate of Remington Point Elementary since she began her work in 2016. Upon her arrival, she set her sights on supporting the campus mission to create a well-rounded child. For Mrs. Cedillo, this meant teaching children the foundations of being a positive and productive member of their home and school community. She noticed that students at the Title 1 campus needed reinforcement and modeling to do simple things such as engage in reciprocal greetings, acknowledgements of compliments, and offering and receiving apologies.
Mrs. Cedillo also saw a need to make sure students could appropriately advocate for themselves and use vocabulary that helps them to do so. Mrs. Cedillo works with a variety of community supports to ensure that all students have what they need, whether it is coats, school supplies or food, so that they can make the most of each school day. At Remington Point, students come from all walks of life, and Mrs. Cedillo's work focuses on helping students embrace what makes them unique. She teaches students to love their differences and those of others. She has worked closely with campus administration, classroom teachers, and parents to build a support system for all children.
As she works with a variety of people, Mrs. Cedillo maintains a professional demeanor where all thoughts and ideas are valued. Her ability to “think outside the box” and utilize her resources allows her to be a highly effective leader and model for others. One attribute that allows Mrs. Cedillo to be a great asset is the intrinsic motivation and work ethic that guides her work with children and adults. She sets a high standard of responsibility for herself and others. Mrs. Cedillo strives to build a school community where students are safe socially and emotionally.
Alice is absolutely amazing in so many ways! She is so passionate about serving and helping others and is relentless in spreading positivity every where she goes! As one of the original intervention counselors in KISD, she was instrumental in defining the role and program with such creative approaches, despite the many barriers she faced in addressing the needs of multiple students and families as the program grew. Alice is indeed a Life Changer and I have personally seen her change the lives of others by simply being who she is! Alice rocks!

I am honored to be married to Alice Cedillo and proud that she has been nominated for the Life Changer of the Year award.
Alice has worked very hard to become the counselor she is and has dedicated the last 18 years to helping children. After spending several years in the classroom she decided to go back to college to earn her Master’s degree in school counseling. She felt in her heart that counseling was what she was called to do.
This past summer she was so eager to get the year started that she voluntold me and our two daughters to help set up her classroom. We could see the excitement in her eyes as we moved furniture around and set up all the toys and games. She always says “play is the language of children.”
Alice always goes above and beyond to help kids in need. On many occasions I can recall going to Walmart or Target and walking out with more things for her students than items for the house. She always makes sure she has extra snacks or school supplies available for them. It’s not unusual for her to spend her nights in her studio making homemade cards and gifts for students and colleagues just to make them smile. She definitely spreads kindness like confetti.
Alice wears many hats at Remington Point Elementary. Aside from what’s in her job description, she has organized Hispanic Heritage activites, Holidays Around the World, Black History celebrations, 911 Safety presentations, volunteers with the PTA, and helps with the school’s monthly luncheons.
It’s easy to see why she is tired at the end of the day but she always says “I’ll do it again tomorrow.” I can’t think of a better person to earn the Life Changer of the Year award than my better half, Mrs. Alice Cedillo.
Mrs. Cedillo has been a true blessing to my little family. She always has a smile on her face, and willing to lend a helping hand. She constantly goes above and beyond to help and I will forever be grateful for her. We are so blessed to have her at Remington Point Elementary.
We love Mrs. Cedillo! Almost everyday my nephew, Charles, comes home with a "Mrs. C" story. He looks forward to see her each morning before school and she helps him get his day going right. I can tell she really knows and cares for Charles, and has even seen and sought him out when she could tell he was struggling just by seeing his face. When we talk about talking to a "trusted adult" Mrs. Cedillo is always on the top of his list. As a caregiver I have also had the privilege of serving on the PTA board with Mrs. Cedillo. I have been impressed with the commitment she continually brings to the table. Mrs. Cedillo is dedicated to Remington Point Elementary students, staff, and community and we are all blessed to have her as our life changer each and every day.
Alice is a ray of sunshine. She is always supportive and ready to jump on board with any task. Her passion for children is one of her greatest strengths. She is also a blessing for adults and often sends little gifts to our team just to make our day a little brighter. Alice Cedillo is a gift to us all!
We are thankful for a counselor like Mrs. Cedillo. She is very interactive with the students, my child has had very positive comnents about her on more than one occasion. That tells me that she is doing something right and the kids are feeling it. She is always smiling and welcoming to parents!

When working with students that require extra care, she makes sure to respect and honor what they are experiencing by acknowledging their hurt and then partnering with their classroom teacher to further support them. Alice has a very intentional approach to solving problems or spreading cheer. She doesn't simply do something just to get it done. She puts careful thought into her actions. She thinks about what might bring maximum benefit to others. Our district has a network of 49 Gen. Ed. Counselors. Last year, for example, Alice saw a need to recognize and connect with our colleagues through their celebrations and their sorrows. She cheerfully volunteered to chair our Sunshine Committee. This year, she has dutifully kept up with recognizing Counselors in need of encouragement, support, or simply edifying and cheering them on. She is a harbinger of joy to our department and I am blessed to work alongside her.

As a parent of a student at Remington Point Elementary, I cannot begin to explain what a difference Alice Cedillo has made. I see her in the hall just about every morning greeting students and making sure she is available to help if needed. It warms my heart to see her interactions with the kids at the school and I have seen her helping a student who has difficulty adjusting to school in the morning sitting down to read a story with him. She has personally helped my child deal with a death in the family. We are so fortunate to have someone who students feel comfortable reaching out to and talking to about difficult situations. She is always there to help with any event happening after school and we cannot thank her enough for all she does for anyone in need! I feel very blessed knowing my child has such a great support system at school!
