Music that Describes Catherine
Catherine Maiella was nominated by her friend, Tisha Janigian.
"It is with great admiration that I nominate Catherine Maiella for recognition as an outstanding and dedicated educator. Catherine exemplifies the very best of what it means to be a teacher, mentor, and role model, going above and beyond to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for all her students," said Janigian.
In her fifth-grade classroom, Mrs. Maiella demonstrates extraordinary care and compassion, particularly for her students with special needs. One touching example is how she accommodates a student who experiences significant anxiety. Mrs. Maiella arrives at school early to meet with this child for donuts and a chat, easing their fears and setting a positive tone for the day. This kind of thoughtful attention changes lives, fostering a sense of security and confidence in her students.
Mrs. Maiella's dedication doesn't stop at the classroom door. She is a breast cancer survivor, embodying resilience and strength for her students and colleagues. Despite her challenges, she continues to give back to her community in impactful ways. She is a devoted volunteer for Girls on the Run, where she inspires young girls to achieve their goals and develop self-confidence. She also contributes to her local Festival of Trees, spreading joy and supporting charitable efforts in her community.
In addition, Mrs. Maiella and her family have established a grant/scholarship program in memory of her late father. These grants provide students with opportunities to pursue their dreams, ensuring that her father's legacy continues to inspire others.
Her impact is undeniable—Mrs. Maiella is often approached by past students who are overjoyed to see her and eager to share how much she means to them. These moments are a testament to her lasting influence on the lives she touches. She also goes the extra mile to make everyone feel special, often leaving little gifts or handwritten notes to brighten someone's day.
Beyond her professional and community commitments, she is the proud and devoted single mother of two young men who admire her strength, resilience, and ability to balance her many roles with grace and love. Mrs. Maiella is more than just a teacher; she is a beacon of hope, kindness, and dedication. Her ability to touch lives through education, mentorship, or community service makes her an exceptional individual worthy of recognition. She truly is a treasure to her students, colleagues, and community. Mrs. Maiella represents the heart and soul of education and community spirit.
