Farrah Cureton was nominated by her colleague, Dr. Yuvraj Verma.
"As a 2023-2024 National LifeChanger of the Year Grand Prize Finalist, I am excited to nominate Ms. Farrah Cureton for the 2024-2025 National LifeChanger of the Year Award," said Verma.
Ms. Cureton is a sixth-grade science teacher at Bessemer City Middle School in Alabama. She is pursuing an Ed. S. in Instructional Leadership from Auburn University at Montgomery and holds a BA and MEd in Elementary Education from Alabama State University. Ms. Cureton exemplifies teaching excellence, making her an invaluable asset to the profession. Her stellar classroom management ensures students consistently exhibit positive behavior and stay focused on learning. Her strong organizational skills and dedication set the tone for a structured and welcoming learning environment where students (and her grade-team colleagues!) thrive. She strikes the perfect balance between being warm and demanding, creating an environment where students feel supported and challenged.
"I vividly remember when we had an assembly that the principal facilitated at the beginning of the school year, during which time the principal had introduced all the teachers, and after Ms. Cureton was introduced, the seventh-grade students who had her last school year loudly cheered for her," Verma added.
What sets Ms. Cureton apart is her unwavering support for her colleagues.
"Whenever I have has questions or need advice, she is always very approachable, knowledgeable, and willing to help. Her ability to anticipate our team's needs is remarkable; she often sends reminders to keep everyone on track with important tasks and deadlines. This proactive approach enhances our productivity and fosters a sense of unity among us," Verma said.
In addition to her high level of professionalism, Ms. Cureton's upbeat personality and team-oriented mindset make her a pleasure to work with!
"I have never laughed and smiled so much at work (that too, in just a short time frame!), and this is much attributed to Ms. Cureton," said Verma. "She embraces collaboration and consistently brings out the best in others through her encouragement and enthusiasm (as well as her grocery list with amazing food ideas!). Her dedication to her students and colleagues is truly inspiring! Based on the foregoing, Ms. Farrah Cureton deserves to be named the 2024-2025 National LifeChanger of the Year!"
