City, State: Sugar Land, TX
Ms. McLean was nominated anonymously.
"My first one-on-one interaction with Ms. McLean was a little over a month ago when I decided to write a feature story spotlighting the cafeteria workers. She was very welcoming, and we set up an interview that worked for us both. The interview was insightful, and she helped me through the story-drafting process, providing inspiration and giving me a peek into her life. She made sure I had all the material I needed and beyond that. After the story came out, I feel that I've developed a much deeper bond with all the cafeteria workers, especially Ms. McLean, and have been greeted with a smile and asked, 'How are you,' every time I go down to lunch," said the nominator.
"During the publication of the feature story, Ms. McLean was very patient with my many questions. Connecting with her allowed me to grow as a journalist and helped me find a place in the school community. Since then, I have felt more connected with all the cafeteria workers, and she has been someone I can talk to about anything," said the nominator.
