Elizabeth Gonzalez Franco, also known as "Ms. Ely," was nominated by a parent of a student, Duangdalad Mondech.
"Ms. Ely has been teaching my five-year-old son for almost three years. When he started at Heartwood, he had not had much social interaction before due to being born just a year before the COVID-19 pandemic. My husband and I were concerned about how our son would adapt socially to school, especially with teachers and peers. We expected him to be upset and cry for the first two weeks of school, but he only cried for the first three days. This smooth transition was thanks to Ms. Ely's amazing approach to teaching," said Mondech.
"Ms. Ely ensures her students always feel welcome and comfortable in her classroom. When my son exhibited aggressive behavior, such as hitting and poking friends with pencils, my husband and I feared he might be removed from school. However, Ms. Ely remained calm and worked closely with them to address the situation. She partnered with us to understand his daily routine, identify any changes, and provide recommendations for how we could work together to help him," said Mondech.
"Her dedication goes far beyond what is expected of her. Ms. Ely is deeply passionate about being a teacher; it shows in every interaction with students, parents, and colleagues. I can feel her genuine love for her work whenever I speak with her. This sentiment is shared by other parents and teachers at the school as well. Ms. Ely teaches children ages 3 to 6, the critical years for building a solid foundation, and she excels in shaping these young minds," said Mondech.
"It is rare to find a teacher as dedicated and compassionate as Ms. Ely, so I'm proud to nominate her for LifeChanger of the Year. She truly deserves this recognition for her profound impact on her students and their families," said Mondech.
Ms. Ely is such an inspiration in both the way she carries herself and the way she interacts with the children she teaches. She has many strategies which she fine tunes for each child as she observes them and takes time to get to know them better. Her expansive knowledge of psychology is applied to her teachings and her compassion with the children is evident. She is an inspiration to parents and teachers alike!
I am so proud of Ely! She is kind, patient, and compassionate. She is what every teacher should be and her students are lucky to have her and are better for it!

I’ve known Ms. Ely my entire life, I think it says it all when I say that even my earliest memories of her show a woman with great independence and absolute dedication no matter what responsibilities she had.
I’m talking about a woman with the outmost centered mindset, ready for anything attitude and the brains to embark in her passions with the greatest excellence.
Even as a child, I immediately picked up on just how determined and resilient she was and still is.
When Ely puts her mind to it she does so with her 101%, and again, even as a child I knew from the start that no matter what task she took on, success was always guaranteed!
One of the best people I know, she is amazing.

Ms. Ely is one of those teachers that you are forever grateful for. She really sees each of her students for their own strengths and individuality. She has greatly impacted our daughter and her laid the foundation for a passion for learning.
We have had the privilege of having two kids in Ms. Ely’s class. Ms. Ely is not only a great teacher- she is also kind, caring, passionate, brilliant and loving in a way I’ve never seen a teacher be. She is truly committed to each and every child in her class and is eager to instill a deep love of learning in the kids. My first son was very active (both mentally and physically) and a little disruptive and loud. We had many troubles with his first teacher so as a mom I worried! However, Ms. Ely adapted to accommodate him, engaging him as a leader in the classroom. I truly believe this is why my child moved into elementary with fearlessness and excitement. She showed unconditional support and taught him how to leverage those traits into something productive. My second child is in Ms. Ely’s class currently and is much more timid than his brother. Ms. Ely has thoughtfully engaged him in the class and given him opportunities to step into more and more challenging work. I have seen his self esteem blossom with her care and guidance. She has been communicative with us on ways we can support our children outside of the classroom, freely sharing wonderful resources with us and often going above and beyond for our kids. There are very few educators out there like Ms. Ely with such dedication to their students and who accommodate each student with such consideration and precision. There are very few educators like Ms. Ely who share love for their students so freely and who are so committed to nurturing students both academically and social/emotionally. We will be very sad when we leave her class! Ms. Ely is a gem and I will forever be grateful to her!
