Heidi Stuit was nominated by a colleague, Jennifer Collins Orosco.

Ms. Stuit is a Nutrition Services Unit Manager for New Horizons High School in Pasco, WA, which provides an alternative learning environment for high school students. One emphasis at the school is to ensure that every student feels valued, welcomed, and important, and Ms. Stuit makes sure that all students with whom she interacts feel and know this!

Collins Orosco states, "Heidi was a nutrition services employee at Three Rivers Elementary School when I worked with her. The school serves over 600 children in grades K-5. The school houses Spanish Dual Language Programs and Russian Dual Language Programs, meaning our students are instructed in three different languages daily! Heidi served our students and developed relationships with them regardless of language. She did not allow language to be a barrier to ensuring the students had nutritious food and a loving smile."

"I had a student who loved Heidi. He looked forward to going to the cafeteria daily to say hello and touch base. I don't think she knew what a difference she made in his life, but he truly loved to see her. When she left our school to go to a different school, this boy was upset but told me that she was 'going to do great things for MORE kids now.' Heidi Stuit is a LifeChanger. Believing in and encouraging students comes naturally to her; they love her in return. If that isn't a LifeChanger, I am not sure what is," said Collins Orosco.

I work in the same area as Heidi and although we don't know each other very well; I am constantly overhearing her making a positive difference in student's lives. She is extremely compassionate and flexible with students who are seeking sustenance. I've been incredibly impressed by her daily interactions with students AND staff and believe that she is very deserving of this recognition. She's always positive and uplifting to anyone she encounters and enjoy hearing the impact she's making every day.
