Melissa Simard was nominated by her principal, Delaney Rosenberg.
Ms. Simard is a true LifeChanger. As an elementary counselor, she supports students' social-emotional and wellness needs and is a rock for the entire staff at her school. Her presence is calming, welcoming, and warm, but she does not hesitate to advocate for the students in her care strongly. Ms. Simard regularly supports learners through lunch groups, small and group counseling sessions, and classroom lessons.
"I am always in awe of how she makes lessons about relationships and kindness come to life through stories and activities. Melissa never hesitates to lend a helping hand at lunch duty, arrival and dismissal, and more. She has mentored several staff members, guiding and coaching them to become experienced, confident professionals. Lastly, Ms. Simard leads by example and by action. She is a leader on our MTSS Leadership Team and the Student Success Team and is a strong proponent of restorative practices. We are fortunate to have Ms. Simard in our lives," said the nominator.
Melissa is so great to work with! She cares so much about the students and staff she works with. She is an asset to Ellis!

Melissa is an incredible support for students and wonderful colleague. I see her every morning greeting everyone as they enter the building and setting a calm and positive tone for the day. We're so fortunate to have her here at Ellis!
Mrs Simard was incredibly supportive to my daughter during her elementary years. At one point, there was some interaction between another classmate and my daughter that easily could have escalated to bullying. Mrs Simard identified the behavior and worked with both learners to manage their emotions and continue providing each the support they needed to become wonderful friends today. Thank you, Melissa!

My family has had the pleasure of having Mrs. Simard as their school counselor for several years now. Starting with my oldest son who is due to graduate high school, my other son who is a sophomore, and my daughter who attends Ellis now. She has always been their cheerleader helping them navigate some tricky situations. She is very down to earth, calming, and positive. She continues to support my family and checks in regularly despite most of them having already graduating from Ellis. She continues to look for programming and opportunities for our community. It is a blessing to have her support our students.

Ms. Simard is an amazing person. She is a great person to work with and always gives the perfect advice for students. She is alway a great role model. She is running GOTR this year. Through this program she has taught my daughter confidence and shelf worth. She is such a great person my daughter and I look up to.
I worked with Melissa when I was principal at Ellis. She is one of the brightest and most caring persons I have met. It does not surprise me she has been nominated.

Melissa has also supported our community rec deparment by coaching little ones in basketball. She gives it a special touch by asking the kids questions while they pass the ball so that they can all learn more about each other. Good job Melissa!!

We have been incredibly grateful for Melissa’s presence as a school counselor in our community as our children navigate school. We started school during the pandemic, and her guidance and compassion during such a challenging time for the students was truly “lifechanging”. As one of Melissa’s closet friends, she is one of the kindest people I know and is always willing to help you out. I proudly work with Melissa, she truly does what is best for our students. She works hard to build relationships and guide students in creating friendships and even dealing with the not so happy things in life.
