Hi, my name is Ashley Miranda. I was a student at MLHS from 2019-22, Miss hueso was and till this day is one of the most helpful counselors there is. In high school she helped me reach and achieve my goals. She also encouraged me to take different type of classes out of my comfort zone. It helped out a ton, now as I’ve gotten older, now graduated thanks to her help and wise words. Her work and professionalism is something I look up to. I hope everyone gets to meet her and see the true and pure soul she is.
Mrs. Hueso has truly been a huge impact in my life since my freshman year of high school, she has done her best to always make me feel better of myself to know that i can do anything in life. I thank her so much for all of her support of my 3 years of high school, without her i know i wouldn’t of made it this far in my schooling, she’s truly one of my biggest supporters in life, her heart is so genuine she’s the most kindest understanding counselor ever, i’ve never met such a amazing person like her
I have gotten to know Lilia over the last few years as a Professional School Counselor of Color co-chair, High School Washington School Counselor Association Chair, and a friend. She is an advocate for her students, she seeks resources for students in need, especially first-generation and multi-lingual students! I appreciate all she does on behalf of students and the school counseling profession!
Mrs. Hueso has truly been the best counselor I’ve ever had. She works around my life and how it affects my school life for me tremendously. She truly is the best.
Lilia Hueso is more than a counselor at Moses Lake High School, she is an inspiration to the school’s multilingual and first-generation students. She is committed to creating an inclusive environment that empowers students to grow, encouraging each one to become the best version of themselves every day.
Lilia has shown me that knowledge is the most powerful tool to overcome life’s challenges. As a high school senior, I never imagined that college, let alone university, could be within my reach. Ms. Hueso encouraged me and provided step-by-step guidance on applying for FAFSA and securing scholarships. In her first year at Moses Lake School District, she quickly noticed that I was not the only senior facing confusion about higher education options. To address this, she organized a First-Generation College Night for seniors and their families. This impactful event, coordinated by her alongside the first-generation students and sponsorships from local businesses, brought together college and university representatives who answered questions and addressed concerns to help families navigate the pathway to post-secondary education.
Ms. Hueso played a huge role in my journey to college, where I eventually graduated with honors, a vision I never thought possible as an average student with limited interest in school. Her influence reached far beyond academics, she taught me to approach challenges from multiple perspectives and to pursue solutions by being resourceful and having a strong work ethic. Even though I graduated in 2019, I continue to hear about the inclusive events and programs she organizes, all designed to uplift students and promote the importance of further education.
Ms. Hueso’s work embodies dedication to the students of Moses Lake, especially those who might feel like outsiders or come from families where higher education has not traditionally been a priority. She has enriched our community and is committed to ensuring that no student stands alone. Her example has inspired me to give back and to help create new opportunities for future generations. Ms. Hueso’s impact is transformative, as she continues to inspire through community service, advocacy, and visionary solutions. Moses Lake School District is indeed fortunate to have such a tireless, relatable, and compassionate leader.
Ms. Hueso is one of the best counselors I've had all school year. She always there to help and is incredibly supportive. She does anything in her power to make sure you get want you need. She creates a great environment for students and helps us feel safe and loved.
Lilia is the most generous, selfless, outgoing, adventurous, inspiring, loving, welcoming, funny counselor I have ever known! She brings a light into the room like no one else. This woman is literally the definition of "dancing in the rain." Anyone who meets her, instantly feels welcomed to talk about themselves, their troubles, and or their success. Thank you so much for being the woman I look up to and the woman who I have admired since I was a baby (2007)! Keep luchando for the best of your students, the way you do, which is dancing in the rain!!
My name is Christina and I have known Lilia since 2013. Since I have known her she has worked hard to become the amazing school counselor that she is. She cares deeply for her students and goes above and beyond for them. She has changed countless students and has helped them thrive in school. You can tell that she is very passionate about her career. The way she talks about it, her love for educating others as well as researching everything she can to give others the best information. She has so much knowledge to share. Although I am not an immigrant, I am the daughter of an immigrant. Seeing someone with so much passion work so hard for future generations to come, makes me excited to see what the future holds. Thank you Lilia for all you do for the students. I am so proud of you.
Hello! My name is Emily Delgado and I graduated from Moses lake high school in 2022. I met Ms.Hueso my sophomore year of high school when I joined MEChA. Ms.Hueso was our club advisor and I remember being so inspired by such a powerful woman. She radiated an aura of positivity and resilience. She taught us how to become leaders, find our sense of self, and feel empowered. For example, Moses Lake is a small agricultural town in eastern Washington where not much goes on. Ms.Hueso thought it would be a great idea to go to our states capital for Latino Legislative day so we can learn how our local government works. We got to lobby our local members of congress and truly express our concerns regarding the inadequate working conditions are farm worker community faces. Because of Ms.Hueso, I was inspired to fight for injustices marginalized communities face which led me to be involved with youth advocacy organizations, and lobbying in Washington D.C. Overall, I thank Ms.Hueso for her dedication to helping me and our broader Moses Lake community succeed.
I have had the pleasure of working with Lilia. Her passion is felt from the moment she walks in the door. She is a friend to anyone that needs one and just knows what to say when you need to hear something positive. Her hard work and dedication can't go unnoticed. She is truly an amazing person.
She is honestly one of the kindest smartest people I know.i have known her for years. She truly is a sweetheart.
I've only met Lilia once or twice; she is my adult son's friend. She struck me as extremely kind/caring/considerate and generous of her time and empathy/knowledge. Love seeing the stories from others where she has made a big huge impact on their lives. Some day when they're older and have kids they'll be mentioning this wonderful school counselor that didn't stop at being told "leave me alone" she pursued to help the other party find their best self. Honored to know you.
Very dedicated to her students, and her community. Thank you for being a big part of my HS experience as one of my only latina teachers who represented us with so much pride.
Lilia is a great counselor not only to the youth around her but also to her community. She has a huge heart to serve students and families and she makes a difference in every one who comes in contact with her. Proud to count her as one of the most influential Latinas in my circle of friends. Gooo Lilia!!!
Lilia has always gone above and beyond when it comes to her students. As a former student, she always took care of the Latino community and it supported each of us as much as she could. It was nice to have a trusted adult who would speak up for us. I am not surprised about this award and wish her the best!
Hello! I’m Briana Valencia, and I graduated from Moses Lake High School in 2023. Reflecting on my time in the school system, I have to admit that I often felt like teachers and administrators didn’t really care about their students. It seemed like the mantra was simple: you learn, they teach, and if you struggle, that's on you. I never considered myself the type to catch on quickly, so when I found myself floundering during my freshman year, I felt completely lost and disinterested in seeking help.
Instead of support, I was met with a frustrating cycle of notifications about how poorly I was doing—paper after paper about my failing grades. It felt like nobody cared. To give you a glimpse of my personality, I wouldn't say I was a rebellious kid. I had great friends, was surrounded by positive influences, and was generally productive. Yet, despite that support, school just didn’t click for me.
Another obstacle was my stubbornness; I wasn’t exactly easy to guide. When Ms. Hueso first approached me, I was dismissive. I had no desire to engage with her, often telling her to leave me alone. I didn’t understand why she kept checking in on me. Despite my resistance, she kept showing up, showing genuine care even when I pushed her away. For the longest time, it felt like an uphill battle, and I didn’t want to acknowledge the help she was offering.
It wasn’t until my junior year that I started to open up, little by little. With each monthly check-in, Ms. Hueso slowly chipped away at the walls I had built around myself. She believed in me when I had completely given up on myself. While I had zero confidence in graduating, she saw potential in me. This incredible woman viewed me through a different lens—one that revealed my worth and capability.
Thanks to her unwavering support, I tackled my senior year head-on, completing 28 classes online to catch up. This journey taught me that it’s okay to be a little behind. Ms. Hueso didn’t just help me graduate; she instilled hope within me and made me realize that I could be part of something bigger than myself. Now, as I move forward in life, I’m filled with newfound confidence and the belief that anything is possible with determination. No matter where you start, you can finish strong if you put your mind to it!
Hello, I am a student from Moses Lake HS. Ms. Hueso was my counselor from freshman to sophomore year. During these years I was a trouble maker and to tell the truth I was horrible at school. I believed my school hated me, I had nobody in corner except a counselor. When I was failing all my classes Ms. Hueso believed in me, motivating me to do running-start. I am now a senior doing running-start in Big Bend Community College and on pace to graduate with a 3.8 (I entered big bend with a 0.7),an outcome my schools administration would’ve never believed. I personally thank her every chance I get, I wouldn’t have believe I will be in college or graduating from Highschool without her kindness, motivation and support. Thank you Ms. Hueso.
She is the best! She is very enthusiastic and very committed to what she does! We need more people like her!
