Louise Smith was nominated by a colleague, Stephanie McArthur.
Mrs. Smith has a Bachelors in Music Education, a Masters in Educational Leadership, and is a National Board Certified teacher. She brings excitement, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to her band classes every day. She serves on numerous educational committees, including the Pascagoula-Gautier School District's Strategic Planning Committee, and has served as an educational leader in both her school and throughout the state.
Mrs. Smith has many students who compete on both a regional and state level, and who consistently make regional and state honor bands. Her eighth grade band is one of only a handful of middle school bands in Mississippi that attends the Mississippi High School Activity Association's State Concert-Sight Reading Evaluations each spring. Her bands have consistently received superior ratings in both concert and sight reading.
"Mrs. Smith is an amazing educator, colleague and friend," said McArthur. "She goes above and beyond everyday to make sure her students are learning and growing in both music and life."
Thank you for helping me become more successful. We always have fun in class, there are some times we joke, and some times we practice and learn.
Mrs. Smith is passionate about her job and she always works hard to make sure her students know their material and are comfortable with it. She always provides us with great music to learn and help while learning it. Mrs. Louise Smith is a very exceptional, admirable, and remarkable teacher.
I think Ms.Smith is a great teacher. She tries to make sure we are the best and impress the crowd with what she does and she tells us we are the best when we do it.
Mrs. Smith is a passionate and caring band director. She always strives and pushes us to be our best, no matter what. She gives everyone equal opportunities, and I am so grateful for that!
Ms.Smith is the best teacher I have ever had. She is a very kind, caring, and passionate person. I hope to one day graduate from Gautier High School, and walk down the middle school halls and see her smiling face, still helping band kids be the best they can be!!

Mrs.Smith is very good and very passionate about her job at GMS. She never gives up or lets people bring her down especially when they told her "you will never make anything out of us". She is definitely a life changer because of all the stuff she does for people, even though she doesn't get any recognition for it. I also love that in Mrs.Smith's class I can always count on her to make me laugh!
She is a real life changer. Over the years I have heard students who previously left GMS say Mrs.Smith showed them that they can go as for as they set their limit to it. That we can do anything if we put our minds to it. Our band is very successful all because of this fantastic, miraculous, extraordinary woman.

Louise has been a mentor and dear friend to me. She inspired me to work hard, not for my satisfaction, but for the good of our students. She cares deeply for each of "her kids." She does all she can to make sure they are successful. I am so honored and proud to call Louise my friend. I cannot think of a more deserving person for this award.
I can not describe someone more fitting for this title than Mrs. Smith. She was my director in middle school and is now my private lesson instructor. I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for Mrs. Smith. She’s extremely hard working and dedicated to her role in the Pascagoula-Gautier School District. She influences so many people by working hard towards the things she is passionate about. Blessed is an understatement to still be under the direction of Mrs. Smith. She is one of the best mentors in my life and I can’t thank her enough for everything she has done for me. I can’t wait to see her accomplish many more things throughout her journey as a band director. She is one that truly deserves this title.

Every time I hear our Middle School band play I am in awe of what Mrs. Louise Smith is able to accomplish in her band room! Mrs. Smith deserves this award completely as she gives 100% of her effort, time and dedication to the betterment of her community.

I have known Mrs. Smith since I was in seventh grade. I am now 27. She has such a warm, friendly personality. She has a kind soul and compassion for others.
Mrs. Smith was my band director for middle school. She was the first permanent director I had as a band student. Her enthusiasm and encouragement made an awkward situation of young teenage children learning new instruments a safe and fun experience. I stayed in band through high school, and Mrs. Smith assisted the high school band at competitions, football games, and all other activities. She always made herself available to help any student no matter the subject or size of the problem.
Mrs. Smith is an amazing woman. Having been a student of hers, I am so proud to now call her a colleague! Throughout the six years she was my teacher, she consistently fostered a passion for not only music but learning in general. She is a person I know I can go to for honest advice and support no matter what phase of life I am in. Mrs. Smith is always working to better herself and her craft so she can continue to positively impact the lives of the students she teaches.
Ms. Smith is a real life changer! She goes above and beyond to push students to be their best everyday. My family has had a direct impact from her as she taught both my boys. She is incredible!!!!
