"First and foremost, I am passionate about children. I’ve always had a soft spot for middle school children who often get forgotten, cringed at, and held at a distance. I am also extremely passionate about helping kids find a love for reading, accept themselves and each other, and learn how to be decent human beings," said Rolfes.
If I were to think of the Ideal Educator, I would immediately think of Jessica Rolfes. It is very difficult to put into words who she is as an educator because words cannot describe the impact she has. I can tell you her lessons are engaging. She plans group activities for students to collaborate together. She creates opportunities for student choice by giving students several different options to demonstrate their mastery of content. She assesses students’ knowledge not by how good they do on a test, but by how can they apply their knowledge to create something new and relevant to their lives. Jessica isn’t just passionate about her content; her students lives matter to her. She takes time to ask students what movies they went to see over the weekend, what books they are reading, or what plans they have coming up for the next weekend. She plans activities for students to build school spirit and learn through real world experiences, activities such as trips to Washington DC and Disney World. Jessica Rolfes understands that teaching content is important. She also understands that teaching students about the world is even more important. Jessica Rolfes is a life changer, changing lives one at a time every day in her classroom.
Mrs. Rolfes finds the positive in every student even mine: the unruly class clown. I always appreciated when she would reach out to me whether positive or negative she would tell me what she loved about my child or what he he was doing well first. Gave me encouragement as a parent and to keep trucking on. Even reached out at the end of the year letting me know she would truly miss having my son in class. Mrs. Rolfes really is a gift and I wish all my kids have her in class. Please do not stop being you!
Mrs. Rolfes was my favorite teacher! She made English fun. I looked forward to her class everyday. I loved every book, paper, and project we did. I still remember those 25 tasks! Thanks for being a part of my journey and contributing to the teacher I am today
I had Mrs. Rolfes as my freshman English teacher and throughout high school she remained my favorite teacher. I loved how she chose relevant and new texts for us to read. Mrs. Rolfes is truly an amazing teacher in and out of the classroom. I had the opportunity to join Jess’s room for my sophomore field experience- the things I learned from that experience are things I will truly remember forever. She takes the time to interact and truly inspire each and every student. She has a presence in the classroom that is unlike most others. When you walk into the classroom you instantly have the feeling of “home”. I now have the opportunity to be with Mrs. Rolfes for my student teaching. I am forever grateful that she opened her classroom to me but also that I have the ability to learn from someone who is as passionate, caring, and dedicated to education. I am not surprised by this nomination at all. Jessica is a phenomenal educator. Truly one of best I have ever seen in my 24 year career. She has an uncanny ability to reach every kid, so that they are comfortable while also being challenged in her classroom. She is the teacher you pray your children will have. The teacher you are grateful to have as a colleague because she is a true team player. And as an administrator, she is the teacher you pray you can hire. She is the epitome of a Life Changer, for sure.

Congratulations! What a wonderful honor to be nominated! The first thing I noticed when being introduced to Jess was her welcoming attitude. She is always positive and can make the worst situation into a learning lesson. She always listens and is attentive to everyone she speaks with. This has trickled down to her children as well. I’m proud to call her my friend and she came into my life just when I needed it most.

Taking this all the way back to my 7th and 8th grade years at Ware Shoals Junior High School, Ms. Rolfes has always captivated students and became as much of a friend and inspiration as a wonderful teacher. She is kind, caring, and deeply invested in changing the life of each and every student she encounters, and without a doubt, they’ll remember the encounter.
Mrs. Rolfes is always kind, uplifting, and energetic. She makes learning so fun and engaging every single day. The kids are always cheering and laughing while they are learning with her! She truly is creating experiences for our middle school students for them to remember for the rest of your life! If you’ve ever met her and haven’t walked away being inspired to read a new book or a new genre, you would be in the minority. As an adult, she still fosters a love for reading in her friends and coworkers too. She is the first person to reach out and help new staff. She is also the first person to stick up for what is right and to do what needs done for our kids.

Mrs. Rolfes is the most kind, and caring teacher there is. I had her as my teacher almost 9 years ago and to this day, she still checks in with me. She is the perfect example of a teacher who heart is in it for the students.

I had a really hard time freshman year, with a really bad home life.
Mrs. Rolfes was my English/history teacher and every day she had a smiling face that made life so much better. She was always involved and genuinely cared. I don't think I would have gotten through highschool without her.
