Mrs. Wilson is in charge of the after school book club which involves both my daughter's and 3 of my niece's. Words can't describe how excited my daughter's are every Wednesday and Thursday when book club takes place. When my girl's are sick, they do become disappointed to miss school but their biggest disappointment is missing book club. Mrs. Wilson is passionate about her students and goes above and beyond to ensure they are safe, happy, and eager to learn. My 5th grade daughter will miss Mrs. Wilson. She will forever carry the memories of all the books she was introduced to. I look forward to seeing Mrs. Wilson another year when my youngest becomes a 5th grader in Fall.

Mrs. Wilson is beyond exceptional. She goes above and beyond in everything she does. A woman who has served her country in the U.S. Army, reared four children as a single mother, and now serving as an educator for behavioral students. Mrs. Wilson has taught second grade, first grade, and special education with fidelity. Her true passion is seeing that students receive the fullest gain in their academic education journey. However, she doesn't stop at academic teaching, she also teaches social and emotional curriculum. She educates students on how their mental health can take over if they do not take care of themselves and learn how to regulate their emotions. As long as I have known Mrs. Wilson, she has been a go getter. She takes the initiative and does what needs to be done. In 2021 she was nominated for Teacher of the Year, in 2022 she received a $3500 grant to start after school clubs, in 2021, 2022, 2023 she was chosen as a mentor teacher, and in 2023 she started a running club for students. This year alone, she has changed a dark empty classroom into a vibrant welcoming classroom. She has started a recycling program at her school, started an after school book club for third through fifth grade, been chosen for the Judson Leadership Institute, and has been chosen as teacher of the week, recently. Mrs. Wilson acclimates wherever she goes, she becomes the spirit of the school. Students look up to her, smile to her, hug her, and want to be around her because her passion for education is so evident. She builds culture within her school and the community. The best part about Mrs. Wilson is that she loves learning and shows the students that learning can be fun. She is currently a doctoral student who is all but dissertation. Mrs. Wilson wants students to understand that one is never too old to go back to school and that learning will open doors to a brighter future. On top of being an educator, Mrs. Wilson also has three non-profit businesses. Walking by Faith Fundraising Fun, a business that raises funds for many different smaller charities; Teaching Tools Tuesdays, a business that educates parents so that they can in turn help their children learn; and The Other Me, a mental health awareness business that supports and brings awareness to those dealing with mental illness. Mrs. Wilson's goal is to educate others and break the stigma that mental illness is a bad thing. Families love Mrs. Wilson so much that she is often invited to her student's football, basketball, and soccer games; along with also going to their birthday parties and family events, which Mrs. Wilson gladly attends. Daretta, as we call her, could have given up many years ago as a single mother rearing four children - she didn't. She could have given up on her dream of becoming an educator - she didn't. She decided to go back to college when her youngest graduated high school, and she hasn't stopped reaching for her goals since. Daretta Wilson would have been my son's teacher every year if I had my way. However, she was his first grade teacher and made quite the impression. Here he is in 9th grade this year and he still talks about her, and how she loved him for him (autistic) and how she helped mold him into the young man he is today. I am happy to have Mrs. Wilson in our lives and call her our friend. I truly wish her all the best. If anyone deserves this award, it is definitely Mrs. Wilson.

Daretta is a phenomenal educator that ensures ALL students can be successful. Even working in a behavior unit, Daretta focuses on building trusting relationships and helping her students and staff do the same so that her students can establish a level of confidence and trust in themselves. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated the importance of servant leadership, always lending a hand to others and serving them. She believes in connection and collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including implementing community involvement initiatives to support schoolwide initiatives. Daretta is the most selfless person, teacher, and leader, and fully deserves this nomination.
