Position: Third Grade Teacher/Team Lead
School: Naomi Press Elementary School
School District: McKinney Independent School District
City, State: McKinney, TX
Joli Jaramillo was nominated by an anonymous parent of a student.
"In the heart of our community is an elementary educator whose impact extends far beyond the classroom. Mrs. Jaramillo is one of those educators whose work truly serves her purpose. Mrs. Jaramillo is not merely a teacher but a beacon of inspiration, a champion of student potential, and a dedicated advocate for the values that make our community thrive. Her exceptional contributions have transformed countless lives, making her a deserving candidate for this prestigious recognition," said the nominator.
From the moment Mrs. Jaramillo steps into her classroom, it is clear that her approach to teaching is different. Her philosophy revolves around nurturing the whole child, ensuring that each student feels valued, understood, and inspired. She has an extraordinary ability to connect with her students on a personal level, creating a safe and encouraging environment where curiosity is sparked, creativity flourishes, and academic achievement becomes a natural outcome.
One of Mrs. Jaramillo's most remarkable qualities is her unwavering dedication to personalized education. She recognizes that every student has unique needs, strengths, and challenges. Mrs. Jaramillo takes the time to understand each child's individual learning style and adapts her teaching methods accordingly. Her differentiated instruction techniques cater to diverse learning needs and empower students to take ownership of their learning journey. This personalized approach has led to noticeable improvements in student confidence, engagement, and academic performance.
"Beyond her role in the classroom, Mrs. Jaramillo is a pillar of our community. Her commitment extends to organizing and leading numerous extracurricular activities that enhance students' educational experiences. She also champions a brighter future for our community's neediest and most underserved and underprivileged children," said the nominator.
When she was a special education educator, she taught students with autism. At that time, very little was understood about autism. She had her students create artwork, which she self-funded and turned into posters, magnets, and other merchandise. This provided valuable information about autism. She calls it a DIFF-ability because, as she has said, "there is no DIS-ability. DIS—means not."
She created a program in her district entitled the Legacy Authors Program, which aims to leave a legacy of literacy through student—and teacher-published literature, which is added to her campus library for future generations to enjoy. Imagine becoming a published author at seven years old when, before meeting Mrs. Jaramillo, you might have never even considered that honor a possibility! Mrs. Jaramillo actively fosters a love of learning and a spirit of giving among her students.
Mrs. Jaramillo is an alum of the district in which she serves. She returned to provide students with the most exceptional educational experiences just like she had. Mrs. Jaramillo was also recently inducted into McKinney ISD's "Hall of Honor" for being the captain and integral contributor to the trailblazing volleyball team, the first ever in the district's history to attend the State Championship. She believes in her community, where she became influenced to become a teacher. Her ability to build strong partnerships with community stakeholders has amplified the impact of her work, creating a network of support that benefits both her students and their families.
Her dedication does not go unnoticed. Former students frequently return to express gratitude, sharing stories of how Mrs. Jaramillo's guidance shaped their academic and personal lives. Parents and colleagues commend her for her tireless energy, innovative teaching strategies, and compassionate approach. Mrs. Jaramillo's classroom is a place where students learn and feel inspired to dream big and achieve their goals with a sense of confidence, belonging, and purpose.
"In conclusion, Mrs. Joli Jaramillo exemplifies what it means to be exceptional and, dare I say, a once-in-a-lifetime educator. Her transformative influence on students and tireless commitment to enhancing our community are truly inspiring. She embodies the qualities of a visionary leader who understands the profound impact of education and uses her talents to make a difference every day. For these reasons, she is an ideal candidate for this honor, and my family and I are proud to nominate her as a shining example of excellence in elementary education," said the nominator.
