Caity Grant was nominated by her friend, Cheryl Heedum, as well as Frankie Hernandez, a community member. The following profile is a summary of both nominations.
Ms. Grant has recently moved to Melissa, TX, and has only been here for a few months. In that time, she stepped up to support local businesses that, in turn, supported Melissa ISD, which ultimately supported who and what matters: the kids! She was tasked with taking on and creating things for her English I & II resource students, basically from the ground up. She has stated that her overall goal with this task is to create something sustainable. It lets her set not only the expectations but also the standard.
Even with all that she has had going on, she has risen to the occasion, and as things iron out, she has created some fantastic things to engage her students. Most importantly, she has formed relationships and created a safe learning environment and a safe space for her students, which is crucial for kids to learn. She has constantly asked for feedback from team members, community members, parents, students, and anyone she can to understand, support her students, and give them the best educational environment and opportunities.
"With my role in the community and the local business my family and I own, we see many faces. When people realize I know Caity, I am constantly asked, 'Isn't she among the best?' I am so glad that Caity is in Melissa," said Hernandez. "Not only has she made an impact on me and made our town a better place, but she has already made a huge impact in our district and for our kids who have her at the high school."
"When I first met Caity, she came into my shop to support my business, which is also where the majority of Melissa get their spirit wear and gear," said Heedum. "The OG Melissa has high expectations for anyone new, especially concerning our district and kids. As I got to know Caity and she talked about her team, school, and 'kids,' as she called them, I knew she was exactly what Melissa ISD and Melissa HS needed. Caity has taken on a task to create something her campus, department, and students can build on and have highly engaging learning. She has clarified that she's not looking to reinvent the wheel; she wants to add some sparkles to it. Many customers tell me that many of their kids are starting to enjoy English for the first time. When I find out who their teacher is, I always tell them, 'That's my friend! She is the real deal! I promise you got one of the good ones, if not the best!' As a parent and community member, I always think of teachers when I think of someone who changes lives. When I think of a person who makes a difference, who truly leaves a lasting, life-changing impact and difference? I think of my friend, I think of Caity."
Ms. Grant is my favorite teacher. she goes out of her way to make sure that her students are doing well and she is great at what she does.
Ms.Grant is the best teacher who is always willing to help if you need it.
Ms. Grant is absolutely amazing. Our students love her and I see the passion and commitment she puts forth every day. She is not just interested in their academic success, but she sees each student as an individual and treats them as such. She takes the time to get to know her students personally at their core and uses that knowledge to not only build relationships, but to also motivate them to want to succeed. She is one of the best I have encountered!
Ms. Grant cares about every one of her students and she goes above and beyond to ensure their success. She is also very knowledgeable and willing to assist her colleagues with resources.

Ms.Grant is a very good teacher she is very nice to eveyone in the room and I feel safe in her room .
Normally, I hate English but since I've been in Ms. Grant's class, English has been more fun and exciting. She relates some of the lessons to Marvel plots which everyone in my class understands perfectly. I really enjoy her presence, I would usually hope for a substitute teacher for certain classes but for this class, I hate whenever there's a sub. Not only is she a great teacher, but she's also an amazing friend, therapist, and a great person just to have a little conversation with. She helped me in life situations whenever I am at my lowest, she truly understands me, and this is not just for me, it's every kid who comes to her and asks her for help or if they just need someone to talk to. Unlike most teachers, Ms. Grant does her job and acc cares about her students because she wants to, not for her paycheck That is one thing I highly respect. I am thankful to have Ms. Grant as my teacher, And no I'm not saying all this just to say it, I genuinely mean everything I just said.

My name is Dylan, and I suffer from ADHD, I sometimes struggle in class due to a lack of focus. I came into Ms. Grant's class on day 1. She introduced her to us as normal on the first day of school and she told us that she had ADHD. I was like I can not get bored in English because it's another person that has a brain like me. Ms. Grant has helped us out with the essays. Honestly, she helps out with everything when we need it. We can tell she truly cares.
Mrs. Grant is an amazing teacher, she understand us and will help us when we don't understand things. I am very grateful for her to be my teacher.
